Here I explain (with clips!) what I love about Orson Welles’ 1948 dreamy film noir classic! Stars Orson Welles, Rita Hayworth, Everett Sloane, Glenn Anders, Gus Schilling and more!
One of the great things about Orson Welles is that he understood the effect of psychoactive drugs in the 40s, well before the psychedelic boom of the 60s. Grisby is clearly on an upper throughout the film, amphetamine or cocaine I am not sure which, and the actor portrays the unsettling effect very clearly. Welles himself used some form of amphetamine in the 40s to lose weight before his filming, so he understood the effect. In his last film, "The Other Side of the Wind", Welles portrays marijuana abuse accurately and unflatteringly, in the character played by Norman Foster.
You’re channel is amazing! The research put into, and the production quality of this video alone is astounding. Not to mention the great recommendation, of which I am thankful.
