Like him or hate him, Ice-T told the truth the way it is. These alleged up-and-coming rappers need to really pay attention and pay hommage to innovators like Ice-T. He paved the way and he deserves respect for that.
"All you need is Boogie Down and Chuck D, Stetsasonic or the Big Daddy. " Ice -T was giving props to the New York rappers Boogie Down Productions , KRS-1 included, Chuck D of Public Enemy, the rap group Stetsasonic and Big Daddy Kane. True Hip Hop heads know the real pioneers.
Ice got too many hits to go over, but this is one of my All time favorites with reason! This song made me straighten my self up when I was in grade school, blaming everything and everyone else for my failures to do my assignments. Then I realized I was playing myself with all them weak ass excuses I was making.
Props to Ice-T from Russia. Back in the days when i was a schoolboy i bought Power album on cassete. I didnt understand sh1t what Ice were saying i just rolled witta a flow and loved the music. Now i know.
I love this in addition to many of his songs like “Drama” and “Escape From The Killing Fields.” Ice T knew to get knowledge/educated, stay true to yourself, and give props to those who came before. He didn't front, step or play.
Ice T NEVER lied when he said that you can't buy no relationship because my young cousin was telling me and my Uncles that if you dont spend at least $50 on a 1st date, then you're getting kicked to the curb and I told my 92 year old mentor friend and he replied, " That means that she wasn't interested from the get go". More important things to worry about and there's too much trouble in the world to be worried about some woman that doesn't give a damn.
This is why wu ...boot camp mobb deep , nas goodie mob , outkast and 90s hip hop was so great this there blueprint was Ice T , BDP, PE, Lakim shabbaz. ....ultramagnetic MC, Juice crew..
Saw Ice at Glasgow Barrowlands in 91 on the Iceberg tour. He had Brixton's Hi-Jack supportin he'd signed to Rhyme Syndicate. What a show, these were the days, this was hip hop 👊💥
Just heard this song on MTV classic's. It didnt sound good at first but when you listen to the lyrics you realized that There is a lot of Truth to this song. He done good with this!
This shit was real. Dropping knowledge. Yes may never hear hip hop artists push music with these types of messages again. This was actually the original intention of rap music. To teach the youth about the pitfalls of life on different levels.
Facts. Rap Music was teaching, not preaching. That's one of the many reasons why it was so Powerful. When it became watered down and glorification of violence and sexual immorality began, it went downhill fast. The rap music off today is just a pitiful imitation of what it once was.🧐😔🙏🏽
I discovered Hip Hop, the culture, and Rap music, in 1983. (10 years old). I’ve heard all the dope shit, lived through the era, starting in the 80’s, through the 90’s, 2000’s, 2010’s, til now. I know what’s dope and what’s garbage. I don’t hate on current Rappers because i’m “old” or “out of it”. Modern rappers are garbage. There are a select few that are dope. But when you grew up hearing 90% dope shit? To now 90% garbage? That’s a huge shift in the culture. You can’t tell me shit. If anything? Stfu and learn something youngins. To diss Ice T is a joke. Ice T is one of the best to ever do it.
Agreed can apply this to life period.Mfs hate to look it the mirror and accept responsibly,he just used what he knew his base could understand for the message.Real talk though High Rollers changed the outlook on the game
I had no idea this song existed until I heard it on an underground radio station I had no idea who rapped it I just typed in played yourself and it came up im so greatful this is real rap and I love it I don't give a fuck if its ''old'' ice t has something to say most hip pop guys don't
The point of leaving Ice's commentary puts forward the argument that it's up to each and every one of you as to how your lives play out. Simply put - Ice says "dont do dumb shit..."
Too many oldskool OG's out here ended up washed up BC they weren't real to the game (disloyal) & true to themselves (faking it). "Don't blame anyone else ... No money no crew ... You played yourself ! ."...
'Nobody put the crack into the pipe. Nobody made you smoke off your life. You thought that you could do drugs and stay cool? FOOL. You played yourself. Ain't Nobody else's fault. You Played Yourself.' One of the hardest, realistic lyrics I've ever heard. ICE T gave it to us straight, no chaser.🧐👊🏽🙏🏽
now this is fo real,,, The IceBerg video!!! had the studio session "whatcha gonna do?" on my ole account but got busted daamn warner mang,,,,,enjoy this classic,, ya played yaself
Ice T always dropped PURE jewels of wisdom. He's the difference between a selfish scumbag who will lead young kids wrong and into a life that will either kill them, land them in prison, or in the ground, and an older, wiser street dude who quietly encourages younger kids to take a good look around, think, stay off the street, or eventually the street will get you. Ice is and has always been the latter. 💯 Solid brother.🤛
TAMLA TANETTE MOORE IS THE MOST HIGH AND UNSTOPPABLE TOO..WE ARE ABORIGINAL PEOPLE OF TURTLE ISLAND..RIP ❤❤❤❤❤..ASE HEKA AMEN RA AHO MOORE NATION GRAND RISING KARMA 🌎 🙌 ❤❤❤
Awesome album - this song deals with blowing it as an M.C., womaniser and drug taker. A masterclass in lyrics that actually mean something - keeps him above the usual dross.
Ice t only because he was the first ,then cube , dj quick , e40 , easy E , spice 1, snoop , too short and be real. Snoop only relevant because of albums ; chronic and doggy world .
