This is still one of the best from method man respect, them this is classic tune.methodman should go back to the studio and bring out classics like this with all the wutang clan,if theres still more left.anyway welldone methodman and maryj.
Mizthang...that is the same reason why I have it on my favorite list...since we share the congenial for this song maybe it should be our wedding song...since I am a film maker I already have it figured out...I will be at the alter singing and you coming down the isle doing the hook...wicked...btw love your song...who is working on your video/s
This is one of those videos that rarely gets played on MTV or BET anymore. Saved to favorites. This was back when rap music actually sang about topics and when music videos were like mini movies. Thanks for posting a true hip hop classic.
One of the most amazing 1990s r&b songs...it's flawless. I always liked the video too; it's raw and realistic...although I could never figure out exactly why he was supposed to get arrested. A true classic.
dis track is ill, marry's best collabo in my opinion, also i think this is when she was in her slump wit dope and meth alwayin been smikin dat good shit and u can tell they do in the track and lyrics. goodshit
why would they change it?? that's what makes this a oldie but goodie...it's a classic! during these times mary was going thru maddddd stuff with the drugs and all the problems in her life, but you're too young to know about those days. anyway, it's fine the way it is!
this is the shit...hands down an ill track! its cool how there's 2 tical songs in the beginning... i like that version with biggie in it too...can't find it tho
I hav 2 believe that hip-hop will make A GLORIOUS RETURN one day,but sadly not today and NOT wit these (GOD HELP ME) so called ...rap stars or as i luv to call them CRAP STARS of today. Some ppl say it only a evolution n music we r just stuck n da past. What i say to dat is,"IF dis is evolution then ME STAY CAVEMAN TILL 4ever ......UGH NO LIKE LiL WAYNE or SOULJA BOY THEY BIG BITCH.
tammy terrell. who could outsing anyone of today's rnb singers. don't get mad, i love mary j.blige, just tammy was awesome. sad too, her and marvin gaye had started to sing duets together and were just wonderful. anyway, they had only been recording with each other for about a year, and she collapsed in his arms on stage. she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and died 3 years later at the age of 24.
Rap has changed. These days the mainstream representation of the music is outside of the culture, sad but true but the fact is that everything changes!! You don't have to look far to hear artists, producers, rappers and dj's that are still putting out exciting, fresh music thats faithful to what hip hop was and still is, for example the new Elzhi album, if that had been put out in 1994 it'd be a classic! GET YOUR WALLETS OUT CAUSE RAP WILL NEVER DIE!
Man this takes me back to '95 when I back when I was a teenager. I still have the mixtape with this song on it. It still sounds just as good as it did back then. 90s rap was the best. I am proud to say that was my era.
No, it is clearly the South that destroyed hip hop. The shit they say doesn't even make sense. We used to complain about what the rappers were talking about in the nineties, but at least you could make out what they were saying. Now all they do is scream and shout the whole track, so what is there for the parents to complain about...lol
This song makes you want to grab that special someone tight around the waist and pull her close to your soul and with time standing still in the back whisper ever so softly in her ear that she has truly stepped into your heart and left footprints to last forever!! If you like this comment check out my video poem and tell me what you think!!
you say soulja boy, I say NAS you say T-Pain, I say Mob Deep you say lil wayne, I say Fat Joe and Pig Pun you say Flo rida, I say KRS ONE you say Akon, I say GURU - Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal GangStar you say Akon - I say NWA TUPAC Biggie WU, Scarface and the Ghetto Boys ga ga Ghetto Boys...my mind it playin tricks on me...Respekkkkt
i completely agree.. but not just with hiphop, i feel like the early 2000's is where almost all music became way too commercialized. i used the think the 90's had bad music, but the older i get, the more i realize that it was in fact quite real. and quite raw. now everything is manufactured and plastic. its really unfortunate for aspiring musicians.
Anybody remember the coke commercial where Pops was upstairs listening to the Marvin and Tammy orginal version while the son was downstairs listening to Meth and Mary's version? :) Props to Meth for making a hot ass love song for the Hip Hop crowd (props to "Me & My Bitch" by Notorious BIG) and to Mary for doing what the Queen of Hip Hop/Soul can only do best! C.L.A.S.S.I.C!
HELLLLL YEAH!! this my shit..One of the realest artist in the "90's Renessaince Of HIP-HOP" Wu-TANG forever..I miss that shit..that shit that made ya head nod an pissed ya parents off. back when they spoke from the heart&struggle.. Now everybody claim they sell drugs..LOL. An if they didn't, they starting now.so they can just rap an say they due..shits fucked up now
I never seen that intro to this video! That's why I never understood who that woman was that closed the door in his face at the end & the younger woman opened it back up all souped. But this video came out when I was in the 6th grade. I remember we were all in the lunch line and the dudes were doin' Meth's part & the females were doin' Mary's. THE MEMORIES!
YO, this is da bomb-diggity shit right here Yo!!! aint nuthin these catz puttin out now 2day that can touch this-this wuz hip hop at its highest & finest-mary flowin wit dat dud down ova her eyez-TRU SWAG thats STILL whut I represent-TRU CLASSIC HIP HOP THAT WILL NEVA DIE!!!
i remeber the days when hip hop was like rich people in my contry, when method man and mary j. made this video i was buying pirate tapes whit my allowance.i waited 2 long for this song to play on my computer ..This is a CLASIC, real shit! P.S. Now i see to many rappers but no talents
this is what we call the classics =) I miss these days when rap was respected now its just laughed at by all the wannabe's rappers, all they do now is gotta sample everything now. artists like Del La Soul.. Rakeem... KRS-ONE Much Love to the ones that kept rap real for while.
check the contrast: 1995, it was cool to be real, to have nothing but your raw self. 2008, it's cool to front and show off your 22s, grills, bling... etc and forget about what's deep inside. doesn't take a second guess to realise what's true hip-hop - but does real really matter anymore?
Wasn't commercial shit, yet the record compay murders this awsome song by there morally hypocritical censorship bullshit. And why... for a bit more extra sales and PCness and most importantly profit. Any 90's Hip-hop that ain't underground or independant like Immortal Tech is commercial. Peace!
i love this video oldschool owns still after 20yrs and all the boyz can relate 2 this jam meth was over looked at as a artist he should got more 4 his talent & flow 1 of a kind flow when meth & odb freestyle battle eachouther thay boath own da world at that time and no 1 can battle like oldschool wu
I remember this song when I was 7 or 8. It's funny cuz in VA, we looked up to New York for fashion and other shit. Now we look to the south for fashion and other shit 10 yrs later.
This song is what raw love is about.....it makes you want to grab that special someone in your life and hold her tight by the waist....whisper ever so softly in her ear that she has truly stepped into your heart and left footprints to last forever!!
well in the song "every thing remains raw" at the end he says "THERS ONLY 5 YEARS LEFT" because he made the song in 1995 and alot of people thought the world would end in 2000.but I was just joking around, you know. P.S. THERES ONLY 1 YEAR LEFT!
u r right. I am super young. this song is just so hard to explain. but i played this for my freind and she called it "bullshit" This is one of the songs that will be around for my life time and my kids life time.(and no i dont have kids at this time).
Wrong... It brilliantly epitomizes the grey, decadent and alienated urban life and environment, which are the background of this love story. It's a goddamn artistic accomplishment, and more specifically, a lesson in Hip-Hop production.
The original version is a Motown duet, by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. The original song is in the opening scene of "Deliver Us From Eva" a movie by L.L Cool J and Gabriel Union if you can find it and check it out. Its pretty good.

Real talk man, I don't understand how all this radio garbage is considered Hip-Hop. Most of these cats grew up listening to what we listened to in the 80's and 90's. How can they feel good about destroying what it stood for?
yeah i know but maybe that's just how she wanted to look when she sang it, because she wouldnt want to appear all happy with her voice being like that. with her eyes half closed it sets the mood with the voice.
Damn....summertime....between my sophomore and junior year of college. Summer school. Working 30 hours a week and partying just as much. BBQ's parties, and hanging out. Man, those were the days.
I just got married Sept. 14th (nas b-day) and guess what the bridal party had to do their first dance too......This is the epitome of ghetto luv!! lol Bklyn 70's baby right here all hail 90's hip hop
Chocolatchick20, My wife gets in done. Our palace would not be what it is without her presence and her touch. "nuttin' make a man feel betta than a woman. Queen wit a crown dat be down 4 whatever".
i don;t know what the hell you're smoking.hip hop today isn't all that great at all.sure there are some good songs, but the majority is crap IMHO.this song right here is great.
Yep but they didn't put it on the soundtrack, well not this version anyway. This version (Rza version not rubbish Puffy version) is on the How High soundtrack. I love this track.
hecks yes it does take you back. The lyrics actually have meaning and they draw you in so you have no choice but to listen to the words...every word, not just the sick azz beat, too.
That has nothing to do with being gay. Although its not my word, hes using to say she's down. more than just a chick on the block. did it sound gay when Ja Rule said it to J.lo?
what ever happened to Method Man. he used to be one of my fav rappers when i was a kid. i always thought he was the best of the Wu Tang. even better then ODB R.I.P.
crazy fucking times in san jo kilacali when this bad as bet come out wat happen to those good day handle bisness with the busters damn just memories simom que si that rite

Sounds like my mother when I was young and in "luv"...no lie LOL. This is my song, never knew something so raw could touch the heart. AND my crush on METHOD LOL for real.
