Your videos are so great and informative! I love your style as it reminds me of my hairdresser I had for over 40 years. I wish you lived in my area because I would love for you to cut and color mine. It sure is hard to find someone you can trust and knows what they are doing. Now that I need color I am lost! I am a redhead and have never had to do anything to it. Thank you for helping me to feel confident in cutting mine, my husband's hair and my daughter's. You are a great teacher!
Really hard to do my ends at the back and do sections going down the back on myself. In fact I have trouble sectioning in general. Hairdressers make it look so easy to get a nice clean section.
It's an art form and a science all in one. I remember getting my hair cut as a kid, and the stylists seemed to know what they were doing and it felt good when they'd section it off and comb it and cut it...now, they just hack away at it without even sectioning it or anything. Such a lost art form. (There are a few that I trust, but you good stylists are a dying breed : )
I had a terrible professional haircut over 7 months ago. I haven't been back to a stylist and I've been watching tutorials since then trying to slowly fix my cut. This is the best one that I have seen. It's easy to follow and it helped even up my jacked up cut. Thank you so much!
How would you do this with a side part to make sure its balanced on the heavy and light side, overdirect on the heavy side and travel on the lighter side?
I have thin and fine hair.if i want lyers its ok that i says to the hair dresser please cut blunt cut not point cut the lyers?? i dont wont thin and fine ends :(can u answer please me regards from germany sorry for my english😢
Why did you change body position when doing the side increase layers? Isn’t it more consistent to stand to one side with client facing forward ( or back) then cut in the same upward direction on both the left and right sides?
Hi Summer! I’m a hairstylist in Sarasota Florida and I watch a LOT of your videos. Thank you for them. I am learning so much. I have a favor though? Can you please do a video on consultations , like how you do them? And also shampooing! I am wanting to get better at these two aspects of serving my clients and would love your input! You are a beautiful woman and I totally get makeup ideas from you! Thanks for sharing your education!
Absolutely agree I would love to see the same type of videos. I’m a cosmetology student and my school is all over the place and every time they can get another intructor they just end up loosing another and gain nothing. We have only 3 instructors total for our entire cosmetology program. My freshman teacher didn’t show us much and just played a frog game on her phone 😢 I’ve been having to educate myself
TIP: If cutting dry hair, flat iron it before hand so avoid uneven lines. Having the hair wet actually gives more control, and easily allows for even, consistent blunt cutting. This is why most hair dressers choose to cut the hair wet first.
No way! Everytime hairdressers cut layers in my hair wet, they go in to deep and half my hair gets chopped off. It takes a year of growth to recover from the choppiness. For my locks: I tell hair dresser “trim wet, layer dry.” That way no surprises and no disappointments. 😊
Flat ironing before with any type of curl does not do well for the way the hair lays. If hair is straight already then it doesn’t need the iron. Too many times I have had to fix cuts on curly hair because the previous stylist flat ironed it then cut it. Curls are a different way of cutting all together.
@@missreddog I avoid layers altogether since last year because I have fine hair and when dead ends grow out, it made my hair look splitting and separated. It was not fully bonded asymmetrically at all. I only want long bangs layered on the front to contour my face. My new stylist who has 20 plus years with L’Oréal explained to me that the texture and hair type play a large role how it should be cut because we have 7 years worth new hair growth and then we get clumps of hair fall out and excessive shedding because it was not cut properly to a certain hair type. Not only that, bad shampoo is another factor in how hair looks. I’ve learned my lesson not to have my hair in layers. It’ll just make my hair look thinner and frail. Ever since I stopped having it layers, more hair grew and bonded together beautifully. What a stark difference it has made for my fine hair.
Hi Summer! I’m a hairstylist, been one for 7 years and had some issues with layering. You broke this video down Barney style and I am so grateful. Thank you. I feel more confident the next time someone ask for layers. New sub!
Thank you so much for this video I was doing this cut so wrong. But just from you teaching this subject and showing the technic you have helped me put out the most beautiful layer cut ever. ❤
I don’t know why this video came up on my feed, but I am always curious so I watched As a hairstylist with many years of experience. I am always open to learning new methods. I’m wondering though, why you’re cutting the perimeter without tilting the head and then also curling the sections up into your palm s your cut that line? This makes that perimeter less full, but you’ve said that you wanted to keep that perimeter(bottom) line full. I do appreciate how you’re explaining how you cut the layers, and I know the home haircutters and new stylists will benefit from that segment. You might explain how you are choosing to make your individual sections in the two front quadrants. ❤
There’s a Rachael “Friends” vibe happening for me here. I know its not flipped out on the bottom like back in the day. But this, this is the 2022 replay of the “Long Rachael Shag Cut.” Ummmmm….
It is so hard to find a stylist that can cut in layers and finding someone who will do a dry cut is impossible. I dread every haircut I get. My daughter has the same issue. Why are layers so hard for so many?
Hola. Me encanta ver tus videos pero no hablo no entiendo tu idioma. Yo hablo español y sería feliz si pudiera entender todos los consejos que das. 🙄 Saludos!!
This video is GOLDen for me - my hair is thick, specially around the neck, and I want the long layers around my face without the rounding front.. THANK YOU! Great tutorial!
Would you be able to achieve this same style with curly and/or wavy hair?! I’ve always heard that point cutting can cause frizz for both hair textures I mentioned previously, so if you could help guide me I’d really appreciate it!
I hate point cutting on fine hair it makes the style thickness of hair always looks weak. I love that you kept the length in the back perimeter because so many styles today make the ends look stringy and not in a good octopus haircut way instead it looks too full thru the cheeks.
Beautifully executed I wish I could get someone to cut my hair like you do it makes all the difference in the world how you angle your hand and scissors Thank you Summer❤❤❤
I did cut my hair before, but only the dead ends. Today I cut layers by my self and it turned out amazing. Thanks for the long video. It helped a lot 👍
Hi Summer!! I hope you are well. I wish you had been my last hair dresser as you are much more polished and detailed compared to the ignorant, young and sloppy male worker I endured. I discovered in horror after days, that he failed to provide the much needed layers I had expected. Why is it so difficult to find an affordable, decent and detailed hair stylist? Thank you for creating this tutorial...I am quite nervous but curious to try layering if needed. *What do you recommend for hair lifting to measure and trim/layer for someone with a shoulder injury please?
I wish I could find a stylist in my area who would even be willing to attempt her styles !! They seem simple enough fir a trained stylist...but alas no... haven't found that stylist yet....summer where are you ???
Very well done! Very clear. Beautiful results Can you describe or post a video on the hairstyling? If you have a video on dry cutting thick wavy curly hair that would also be great.
I like face framing because I have a narrow and a bit long face. No framing of hair does nothing to my face. Other face shapes look awesome with super straight long hair in the front. I wish I looked that good.
I want ♥ to best one of the best at cutting variety of texture hair! I enjoy watching and using these tutorials in my line of work daily! 🌼 thanks for showing your progression techniques for inspired cosmo enthusiasts like myself!
I’m so happy you do a blunt cut at the bottom because waaaay to many people point cut a lot on the bottom, especially when a lot of people have thin hair, and it looks like a horse tail when they’re done and looks like they already need a haircut to chop the gross stringy ends off as soon as they step out of the chair lol. Not a good look 🤢. The way you do it looks great.
Why does every tutorial anybody does parted down the middle? It would be nice to start seeing side parts & deep side parts to make both sides equal instead of the one side looking off cuz it was swept over. More women wear their hair parted on the side than the middle yet no one ever does side parts or very very rarely when showing tutorials
Firstly, your video is amazing and you are very informative and demonstrate everything very clearly. Secondly you say the word especially as "Xpecially". I used to say "supposively" instead of supposedly and wished someone would have told me much sooner in my life. Particularly because you are on a public platform I am hoping that this is helpful. Live long and prosper 🖖🏻❤️
Finally!!!! It took me forever to find this video! I just didn't know what it was called to keep a blunt cut at the ends with layers that don't fall into a V, because V is all I know how to do. This explained all!! Thanks so much !!
Hello Summer ive.been a hairdresser and teacher.for over 35 years. And still am i just started watching you cut.hair just want to letyou know. That you cut hair the way i do. I love watching you. Your a great haidressee.....
Having layers for me personally makes my hair look much thinner. So I avoid layers altogether on the back and just have long layered bangs on the front to give my hair and face contour. That way it makes my fine hair look bodied and fuller. I enjoy your video. So talented Summer!
Right, a couple months ago I cut my hair in a professional salon and the lady messed up my hair so bad. Short on the top and long on the bottom. I can't even style. I think Summer's hair it's what I like. I don't think she has short layers.
I'm not sure how stating that I was going to clean up the ends for a nice blunt cut to get rid of any spacing and thinned out ends would lead you to believe that I was keeping the length.
@@Raven11177 oh so she's suppose to leave it all scraggly looking is what u r saying? Maybe you should make your own cutting videos then if you know it all.
I'm not a hairdresser but I've been cutting my own hair and my adult daughter's hair for a few years now. We've always gotten compliments on our hair. We both have wavy to curly hair. My daughter always had split ends, for as long as she could remember. However, ever since I started cutting her hair, *No more split ends!* I attribute that to *NO point cutting, no texturizing, no thinning, no slicing.* All of that makes me cringe! 😬😖😣 The sound of slicing the hair is horrible to me. Sounds like the hair is being damaged. I've heard from many hairdressers that curly hair should not be cut with thinning shears nor have any point cutting done to it because that will create spilt ends. I don't do any of that with my hair nor with my daughter's hair. I never had split ends to the degree that my daughter had. But ever since I started cutting her hair, she doesn't have that problem any more. By the way, I love face framing so I do that with my hair and with my daughter's hair too.
@@HannahSahi There are many different ways you can cut your own hair. Hair cutting tools come in handy for some cuts. Flipping your head upside down helps with layers. Using hair ties helps for some styles. There are many tutorial videos for cutting your own hair. The best thing you can have is a good pair of hair cutting shears. Some people (even some hair dressers) say that any pair of scissors will be okay but I disagree. A professional pair of cutting shears work best. I bought mine years ago and they're still good and sharp.
Wow that came out sooo beautiful!! I wonder what it would look like if you didn't soften it with point cutting though... 🤔 would it be too harsh? I like defined layers too. Would that be hideous? IDK. I hate cutting my hair but it's overdue. It's so long it's in my way.
Hi Summer! I really love the method you used on this haircut! The layers turned out amazing and the final style is gorgeous! I was just wondering, when you start cutting the layers from the top how do you know where to set your initial guideline so that you can make sure you definitely won't end up cutting into the perimeter of the hair or risk having a disconnection between the perimeter length and the layers, especially when you know that guide is going to be used to cut the front and sides where the hairline comes up higher? Would you recommend maybe cutting the initial guide starting from the bottom for the first few times when trying this method of layering to avoid having those issues? Thanks so much for sharing this awesome technique and being so thorough when showing each step.💜😊
