Amazing work again Charles. Great band and wished they'd done more, I love AJ's tone on this one and his playing with Steve Ferrone is something special....one of the best rhythm sections to ever work together for me.

@Andy Robertson Bass definitely! On all albums. Chaka, Naughty, What ‘Cha Gonna Do For Me, and also the self-titled album. There’s also live footage: Live at the Roxy, 1981… amazing! I think all Steves are amazing with AJ, though. His collaborations with the other drummers with the same first name are also very special! With Steve Jordan on Steve Khan’s albums and, of course, all the good stuff with Steve Gadd on countless albums..

Nice. How do decide between whether to play the 5 or 6 string bass, on these things?

Good question. It depends on a number of factors. Sometimes a piece cannot be played on a 5 string (“Bronx”, “Voice”) because of the register. Or also because of the lack of the open C string. I try to solve this where possible on a 5 string by playing that same C in two places on the neck (“Grand Slam”, “Made in New York”) but that doesn't always work of course. In terms of sound and playability, I prefer my Stenback 5 over the Modulus 6. I feel most at home with that bass. Sometimes, however, the Modulus can fit better with the original part also in terms of sound. Alex Bugnon’s “as promised” is an example of a song that could also have been played on the Stenback. but there the Modulus fits better in terms of sound. IMHO of course. Basically: I try to do everything on a 5-string. But often you can’t work around the fact that a piece was played on a 6 string for a reason. Thanks for your comment! 🙏🏼
