Aye just like the business holds you up, hours I’ve spent parked on that poxy road each way Monday and Friday and then ask for money I said to them once is this for parking?? Expensive for a couple of hours

Brilliant interaction! What a breath of fresh air! I once knew somebody who worked at the Dartford Crossing. In those days they had Landrovers as escort vehicles. He said the tyres wore out first on one side because the vehicles only ran in a clockwise direction through one tunnel and back through the other.

I'm on the local residents scheme (£20 a year for unlimited crossings) I've been using the Dartford Crossing every weekday for the last 25 years and still learned a lot from this lady. She's a credit to her employers. When the winds are strong they open just 2 lanes on the bridge. Then if it gets any stronger they close the bridge and use the East bore tunnel for traffic going southbound from Essex into Kent and the West tunnel stays in the usual direction. I've also used the cycle service which can sometimes take upto an hour to wait, but it's always been free. Craziest thing I've seen at the crossing was a lad on an electric scooter go through the West bore tunnel then continue on up the M25!

When the dartford tunnel first opened it used to be converted buses that took cyclists through they boarded/alighted on specially made platforms, worth a google for such an interesting way of moving folk.

The Dartford bridge was built in 1991 and motorist were told that when it was paid for ( 2003 ) t would be toll free however in 2001 the government made a u turn on its decision and this agreement was no longer upheld

Dartford Crossing. I took lots of steel down for this bridge, 1987/1988...winter time covered in ice and snow sleeping on it in the cab waiting for the cranes...loved it...through the Dartford Tunnel both ways before the bridge opened...now they are both North the bridge South...Dover to the docks many times ...driving from the NW...Good DJ well worth seeing what I and many other's created back in the day.
