Rembering that her father was in debt after he passed away, Elvis was in deep debt, but nothing could be done to put it right. Prescilla, along with Vernon Presley set up a way forward to pay the huge debt and get it sorted, so that there was the possibility of Graceland and Elvis's memory could stay in tact. They got together with a bunch of business people, and their lawyer's, and devised a plan to put Graceland and Elvis's memory on the map, to pay for the ever mounting debt that the Elvis Empire found itself in. The business people, along with their lawyer's, put in huge amounts of money to pay off the debt, or at least so they had a way forward and keep their heads above water. Not only did they invest in the debt, which by the way was an ever continuous mounting debt, because people were required to manage and maintain the Elvis memory. Without this huge endeavour, all would have been lost, and gone down the gurgler a long time ago. Land was bought to build the huge Graceland guest house, also where Elvis's toy's were kept and housed, his cars, buses, vehicles, bikes, planes, possession's that mean't something to him, the out houses and buildings that he used for his recreational purposes, now house his clothes, gold, silver, platinum records, CD, his DVDs. collection, are all part of the Elvis Presley memorabilia collection, which is open for the public to go visit as part of the tour! This tour cost's an arm and a leg to go on, meaning, that if one doesn't have the money to go on this tour, then it is out of reach for most ordinary people. There are roads and resterantes, cafes, shops full of souvenir's for tourist's to buy this merchandise, so one might think, that the 'Taking Care Of Business' Empire would be bringing in millions of dollars to keep.the wolves away from the door, but it doesn't. Unfortunately Elvis's memory.continues to accumulate huge debt. The reality is, that there isn't enough money being generated to pay, keep and maintain the ever mounting debt. Why? you ask, poor management from Elvis's offspring. He couldn't look after it, his father Vernon struggled to keep on top of the huge debt Elvis had created, he owed millions, and those who came after, did their best to pay those debts. Prescilla accually got the Presley Empire out of debt, but since her daughter Lisa Marie took over, it all went down hill again, since her debt, Riley has been unable to run the EP Empire of Graceland itself, or run the company like her grandmother did, keeping the wolves away, so it has come to where the investor's want their money back, with interest, on their investment, and they want out, which leaves the principle in trouble. Quite a big part of the Graceland property was sold off to land development, which gave a huge amount of money to pay some of Elvis's debt. By selling The remaining property and the house, this area, which was once Elvis Presley's home, will become a land development project, and out of a sense of EP's memory, streets may be named after him. His possession's will be sold to collector's, for elaborate amounts of money, to help pay the huge debt. It is good that Elvis isn't around, to witness this, not that he'd be able to do anything about his undoing. I only expressed my point of view regarding the 'Presley Empire', because this new piece of information regarding the possible closure of Elvis's home, 'Graceland', Which he initially bought for his Mum Glady's, ofcourse this included his Dad Vernon, but Elvis knew about, and why his mother suffered the way she did. He wanted his parent's to not have to continually worry about the struggle of life, that they were experiencing during Elvis's formanable years. It was his turn now to take care of them and see to making their live's as comfortable as possible. They grew up poor, life wasn't mean't to be easy for these people and their families. I know what that is like, my parents not being able to afford much, both parents needing to work in order for our survival. I use to be told off on a daily basis at school, because my parents couldn't afford the proper school uniform, so teacher's would penalise me, as if it were my fault, so I would be singled out. My father worked 2 jobs, my Mum did part time casual work to help pay the rent, pay electrical and gas bills. Putting food on the table was a struggle, so my Dad grew vegetables in the back, and front garden, a few fruit tree's. We kept a few chooks for eggs, and now and then, they'd chop a chicken's head off, defeather it, and that would be a meat treat on those occasion's. Ofcourse new 3 day old chickens needed to be bought, in order to keep the stock up. Dad would buy weavle infested wheat and pellets to feed the chooks. They seemed to love it, plus chickens don't mind eating insects, weavles included. Clothes were hand me downs, same with shoes, but to us, we didn't know any better, to us it was great. Elvis Presley's life wasn't any different, they may have had it harder! If you read books that go back to the early 30s and 40s, people were doing it tough. The 2 war's didn't help. Elvis's whole family come from tough times, this is why the Smith's appreciate the simple life. Vernon did it tough also. Once Elvis was bringing home the bacon, and life started to improve for his family, and himself, he did purchase a number of house's, moving up the quality as finances allowed. Graceland came on the market, I believe he purchased the property, including the Baptist Church, which was under contract with the Graceland property, that once the church's contract came to an end, that section of land was returned to the original owner, which was Elvis and his parents who are on the original deeds. Even though Elvis may have paid for it, it belonged to Glady's and Vernon Presley, along with Elvis's signature on the deed. At the time, it was a huge investment, and Elvis still owed the original owner some unpaid cash, he was under a gentleman's agreement to eventually pay the outstanding debt, and finalise the agreement, which they did. So they owned 'Graceland' and all it's property attached to it, which included the Church. It was once said that Elvis's grandfather was a preacher, or pastor, but I have no idea if that is true or not! That's one for the expert's, which would include the family regarding that information. Obviously quite a bit of the 'Graceland' property was sold off to investor's and developer's, because what was once part of the property belonging to 'Graceland'. It is now a land division, with homes and suburb's where many people live these days. The house that Vernon and Dee lived in, is towards the side of the Graceland existing property, but back when the mansion was purchased, this house was accually on.the property known as 'Graceland'. The house seems to be in disrepair these days, but since I last saw it, repairs and maintenance may have taken place. It was quite a large house, it had to be, there were 5 people living there, back in the day. I just noticed a lady speaking to a TV news program, that this forclosure report, might be a hoax, a rumour, by a scammer. It is hard to know what to believe with the technology there is today. We hever had all this nonsense before mobile device's, now jobs are going out the window, banks are closing down, businesses aren't run properly, news is mostly all fake, fabricated lies. In that case (senario) this debate by public comment's, would not be taking place. Obviously something has (gone down) for this threat to be happening. Elvis's cousin who appeared on the early TV media news program, has said that it was faulse news! but at the same time, the news reported that a high court judge was involved, in the proceeding's, that were leading up to the judge ordering that 'Graceland' should be auctioned and sold off! But Elvis's cousin is claiming it to be a hoax, and fabricated news, and that Graceland isn't for sale! (end of story)!?! But we will see what comes from this news, and the outcome. Whatever us fan's think, and feel really means nothing to the people involved, and the Presley family offspring. I would have thought that Prescilla was doing a great job of 'Taking Care Of Business' on behalf of Elvis Presley, and the Presley family. With Lisa Marie, Prescilla was her mother first, her mentor, her main adviser and closest friend. Prescilla set the Presley estate up for Lisa Marie, so mother Prescilla being level headed and a business woman, made sure everything was going along smoothly. Since Lisa's passing, as she wasn't a well person, so Prescilla made sure all business dealings was taken care of. After Lisa Marie's passing, Mum was handling everything as she always did. Obviously Riley's camp had different ideas for the court to rule in her favour to have complete running of her grandfather's estate. Also, we need to realise that Prescilla isn't growing any younger, and has to be looking at what becomes of her future! It is Riley and her mother's Mum's son, who maybe helping to look after his Mum, during her final years. Fortunately for Prescilla and her son, they have a loving caring granddaughter ( Riley ) who will see to it that they are both taken care of, as their time's come. What we think and say, or comment, has got nothing to do with any fact's, and the Presley's won't let what those comments say, bother them, or let it bring them down. It has nothing at all to do with us. The best thing us fans can do! is continue to play and listen to Elvis's Music, watch and continue to watch his movies, and documentaries, and enjoy them, and remember Elvis Presley for who he was to us, don't get bogged down in his families ongoing drama's, it's not ours to be concerned about, let them sort it out, besides, there are no Presley's left, just offspring. For us, his memory is all that matters.

Good points - but opening Graceland was the only thing Priscilla could do in the early 1980’s to stop the Presley estate going bankrupt. Elvis earned it but also spent up big, as well as getting swindled by his manager and scammed by family and friends.

There are millions of Elvis admirers young and older throughout the world. Elvis was so charismatic that fans were drawn to him. After his passing, and Priscilla opened up Graceland to give them a feeling of being close to an exceptional human being. The like we'll never see or hear again. Today, More people can now afford to travel long distances to see and behold modern history especially. Don't forget, many ancient Castles and Noble Residences in UK are also open to the Public.

Elvis loved to show off Graceland and Priscilla even said that he would have been a great tour guide. He loved Graceland and rather than see it be sold, he would have opened it up too in order for it to be passed down to his daughter and any children she might have.

The favs gave him that title; Elvis did not want to be referred to as such, and said Jesus Christ is the only king. The title is not self given, it is how people saw Elvis. He is a legend and always will be. He helped cure polio, gave away millions in gifts to a lot of people, fans and family, and was founder of one of the famous children’s hospital. I could go on….. he was the first musician to break through racial barriers and introduced black music to the mainstream. There’s far too much to say but fans loved him and the kind of man that he was and he will always be remembered. No other artist has reached this level of achievements. Who else has a home that is protected and a national heritage site? Too much to list here.

Maybe initially she was a trustee but after a court ruling Riley Keough was declared the sole owner and you would assume decision maker of Graceland.

Family does not manage Graceland. EPE does and their parent company Authentic Brands Group. Family owns the house an a 15% minority stake in the company. The Trust is a trust that holds the monies gained and other assets like the house and personal affects.

Didn't Lisa Marie sell 85% of Elvis Estate including song and photography to a European gentleman investor.
