If you're not getting the grades you want, it may not be because of a lack of effort. The way you study - the techniques and strategies - are just as important as the amount of time and effort you put into studying. Using these methods, you'll crush your college, university, or medical school courses, ace the MCAT, and even your USMLE Step 1 and Step 2CK boards.

Summary for myself (and those who may benefit from it) - you need both comprehension as memorisation (eg make a mindmap for comprehension and flashcards for memorisation) - listening your lectures on a higher speed isn't necessarily more effective but it can be - highlighting isn't effective - use active learning strategies eg self testing and spaced repetition

Nursing is a real difficult course, my mistake and a big regret I listen to my mother advice, I can't meet standards. I read books and study but the college I attended never taught me anything and never train me. It is all a waste of my life, a waste of time, money and effort. Getting a job that is irrelevant and not related to your course is really a challenge. Nursing is only for hospitals, clinics and some specialized areas such as dialysis centers etc. Company nurses require trainings, seminars and experience which is I cannot afford. I wish there is someone who guided me when I was still young and didn't realize that it is a huge mistakes. Getting employed is really a challenge, creating another career path in the BPO industry but due to language difficulty local account pay very low. So this is my biggest problem mismatch of jobs. I guess I will settle for low paying jobs just to ends meet. Jobs that don't require a bachelor degree program. It's like my educational experience is only a High school graduate. Good education is really important in our modern society unfortunately I have a very poor educational background because of this poverty, living an empty life because of unemployment. Nothing to gain but I have so much to lose. Stupidity. Destroying a person's dream, life and future by sabotaging her Education and not providing jobs opportunity that can somehow uplift her life from poverty. Imbecile and stupid. The root cause of all the problems is having a very poor education. A part of my life is wasted, 5 years of my life is wasted.

A video on a step by step process of what exactly you do to learn , study, and prepare for a test on a day to day process. IE if you had a week to learn the citric acid cycle and prepare for a test on it, what steps would you take daily to adequately prepare for the upcoming test. That would be helpful because I think it would help us students to integrate all the great advice you are giving.

You should consolidate everything into one study guide, only highlighting the most important points. Review anything that’s still a bit unclear. It’s too overwhelming to study the same material from difference sources the days prior to the exam.

If you could put together a video on how to optimize your anki settings, regarding changing your intervals to better assist in the learning process, while limiting review time on cards, would be interesting. Anki, as powerful as it is, can take up an enormous portion of one's day, and fiddling with the settings can free up lots of time.

Hey Med School Insiders! Last year (Grade 12) I began playing music or videos in the background while studying. This worked well for me as I was able to study for extended periods of time without feeling burnt out. This worked well for me then, but as I’m entering Uni I was wondering if I should abandon this habit completely, since I know including distractions lessens the effectiveness of study time. Last week I spent fifteen hours a day studying for one stupid test and made a D which is better than the F's I was getting but for the amount of time I put in waking up at 6am and going to bed at 10pm and have zero time for myself I should have made an A or at least a B. But here is the kicker, if someone would have asked me to teach them what I learned that week I could tell them, but I still made a damn D on the test. The first point of this video hit me hard. I distinctly remember being told in o-chem by my professor that memorization wasn't going to cut it for the course. I misinterpreted that ONLY memorization wasn't going to cut it, and I shot myself in the foot by not doing basic memorization for the course. Yes, memorization alone won't provide success in o-chem, but it was still needed for a basic foundation for applying the concepts of the course

Though I'm sure the materials will come back to me faster, would you suggest me to read only the chapter summaries, jump right to practicing problems, and identify weaknesses of knowledge by re-teaching myself and then strengthening the gap of knowledge afterward? It's hard to convince myself that without a strong base of knowledge, how can you master the concept through just practicing immediately? Thanks!

Try to read every lesson u've got in order in a very short time like a day maybe and focus on what u're studying, after a while you'll start to connect ideas between lessons and even come out with your own conclusions on them, but this method only works when you've already revised your lessons. I find that active recall works best for me. Talking aloud and talk to myself and the wall sometimes. Lol

I found that being forced to teach a section of the material to your study partners helps too. ...... it's kind of active learning?

I going to be a senior in high school this coming school year and I still researching colleges and I was wondering if you have any tips on how to better figure out what college you can strive in if your going for the pre med track?
@Karan-os5dr

Amber Lawson college doesn’t matter for pre med, you could go to a community and still get it assuming you have stellar grades

Extra curriculars and grades means for more than exactly what college you go to. Just make sure that whatever you're going to be majoring in is a reasonably robust program at the school.

This might be a dumb question, but do you have a video about how to self-test effectively? Is it simply making up your own questions? Thanks!

Flash cards and practice tests. I’ll go into more depth on the latter in a future video. I have a playlist on the former

I feel as if when I am told medical information, my mind has to slow everything down and break it apart to understand it, but it all stays short term.

I used to put everything on Anki and try to remember every single card. It didn't work at all.
