limiter ceiling is the threshold for the limiting. if you set it at 12 db a sound would need to peak at 12db before it starts limiting. Also if you set the limiter attack, release and sustain to 0 the limiter becomes a hard clipper using the limiter ceiling as the threshold. Fruity Limiter underrated.
Nice info on the expander. Though raising the ceiling ALONE has no effect on the waveform. You can test this by rendering your track dry. Then render with the ceiling up. Play both and reverse the polarity on one and you get perfect phase cancellation.
The SAUCE is INSANE!! 🔥🔥 Thank you fam! Just getting started this year and I need to improve everything but most interested in Mixing / Mastering! This is AMAZING. So I don’t have to use soft clipper this gives WAAAAYYY more control
CEIL (Ceiling) - Limiter ceiling. Sets the level above which the signal will be limited. While it is not possible to disable the limiter stage completely, setting the ceiling level to the maximum (+12 dB) should effectively prevent limiter engaging. That's what the ceiling does as per the manual. The limiting of the signal is being "compressed" or "Limited" in your video by the saturator.
To help your voice-over not get too noisy you can just add the waves Ns1 to your voice over track and find a sweet spot . its a great tutorial here . thanks
I was always taught when I open FL Studio and Fruity Limiter was on the master, I was taught to delete it right away, Some people was acting like Fruity Limiter was the devil 😂 Anyway, Thank you Game...Always dropping knowledge. Do the Grammy's have a section for RU-vid Producers/Teachers like you if they don't they should and you Sir should have lots of those GRAMMY'S with YOUR NAME on THEM, PERIOD!!!
yes you should. make your song, get all the levels as best as you can before adding compression and mastering to the overall track -> for best results.
I use Fruity Limiter to compress and saturate melodies, and I use Fruity Soft Clipper for drums. I put the threshold on the highest and post gain to the desired DB level, and the drums tend to keep all their qualities in the mix, no matter how low that DB level is. I use saturation on the limiter in my master preset, too.
Bro you spit so much game and give us some of the best musical facts I can find on the internet as far as producing an engineering music yous a real one b
I remember Decap in one of his videos was talking about the ceiling as well in the fruity limiter how he uses it on his drums iI guess why he has the best kicks & 808s in my opinion his drums really do knock.
Thank you for the best Tutorial, how to use the Compressor, and Limiter. 🔥 now i make 2 years music and Never get a good Video how to use this to Master a Beat. 🔥🔥🙏
@@ehmjay540 i think they meant you should route your mixbus to a new channel, use the limiter and then blend this new signal with the original mix bus signal in the master channel.
you werent hitting clipping range before increasing that ceiling right? Why would it clip then? Also, you can do this with maximus and compressor too, i dont need to tell how its done in maximus but in fls stock compressor if you increase threshold and change the the "ratio" to 0/4 it will increase the volume, i do it sometimes on 808s but i have never tried that on a full beat tho i have to admit.
Damn, I'm so surprised the way stock Compression and Limiting sounds in FL. (Did they change it??) I can't hear a difference between Fruity Limiter -vs- my expensive Pro-L 2. Also the Fruity Compressor gives me the same sound as Compassion with the same settings.
bro tells us we using it wrong and then proceeds to not use it as a limiter at all. real title should be how to be too lazy to use real clipper. you should never use expansion on something that can still be mixed. expansion is mostly for fixing squashed amateur rendered mixes. if you need more dynamics in your kick turn it up and use a 30 ms attack on your drum bus. if youy simply turn up the drums they will hit the clipper quicker and harder then everything else. listen to this guy if you want to sound like everyone else.
I attempted to apply this to some of my old tracks and hear the differences but I unfortunately realized this technique is specific for your genre. In my case it doesn't work at all and ruins a lot of the sounds. Still interesting though.
I you sure this expanding? It feels like its doing upward compression. Also is the limiter and the compressor working together or does it switch between them depending on what is chosen?
yea, just watching him tinker with it, it seemed like upward compression (in OTT). But either way I'm going to re investigate the plugin using his information because there is a BIG difference in the sound for sure. The real test is what it sounds like after it's rendered. Stay up and keep Fruity Loopin'. Peace
Theoretically speaking, could you put your kicks/808s on a track by themselves, then do all this to just the track the kicks are on so it doesn’t affect the hh/claps ?
you can run side chained to kick drum so it effects the kick drum the most or only when it hits you could parallel process it to. so add separate track with instance of fl limiter and run a send to the track in parallel this may help you control what part of the tone and or dynamics sound is being effected
check out dan Worrall videos he explains side chaining parallel processing very well. he primary uses fabfilter plugins which I very much recommend. the process from a-b on such plugins is very similiar
Congratulations you discovered saturation and compression.😂 why are you doing this in your master instead of just fixing your mix??? The best master is a great mix down
