I’ve been a purple belt for a year and a half already. Under IBJJF, my recognition starts when I register….. Welp, I’m in no rush to be a brown belt anyway. lol

Yes unfortunately the IBJJF does a bad job of getting this information out to the academies and students. Very frustrating.

I think everyone should be IBJJF registered 100%. I think you can only win the worlds 2 times then you have to compete at the next belt level class. That’s my goal this year is to win the master 3 brown gi then see if I finally get the black belt next at my school.

You definitely deserve your black belt and I hope you receive this long overdue recognition soon. You are one of the best I have ever trained with a real pioneer for MMA and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the North Carolina area. If you are ever traveling in Texas please come visit me in San Antonio, because I would really enjoy training and learning from you again my friend.

I’m wanting to register for IBJJF Atlanta. I have no problem paying membership fee, but my academy and coach are not registered in IBJJF. How do I get another instructor to sign off or let me compete for them at IBJJF. No one from my area competes there and I want to be the first.

First talk to your coach and see if there is someone in his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu lineage or association who is registered who would sign off. For instance, there are several black belts who are not registered with the IBJJF, but they are a part of an association like Alliance, Gracie Barra, Atos, American Top Team, etc who have other black belts in the association that will sign for you in order to compete.

@@semperfortisjiujitsu we are a guess you say a branch of a Gracie Barra gym. Our coach was promoted under their Instructor who is registered. Funny that you mention that, he will be at our gym to teach a seminar this week. Do I ask him, or have my professor ask him? How do I go about that?

@@semperfortisjiujitsu Thank you professor for being so readily available and resourceful to in this matter. Two more questions… Do I present an instructor with the pineapple even if he comes to my Gym also what’s the origin of that tradition.

@@prettypawesomepryde71 I have never heard of presenting an instructor or black belt with a pineapple. That may be something your gym does but I have never seen or heard of it. If you find out let me know.
