Susie, before I referenced any videos or read the “how to”, used one to remove gels polish. Used a coarse bit… long story short, thinned the nails, heated my nails and it blistered under my nails. Didn’t feel anything right away, until later on that night. OUCH, is an understatement. They detached during the healing process, it hurt so bad, my nail-estate was about 1/4 of an inch for months. It took 6 months for them to completely heal. Lesson learned. I still use my e-file, but now use the right bit, at the right speed and only when absolutely necessary
@kim2306
@kim2306 3 года назад
I did the same thing myself. I didn't research enough. I went to a salon to get some much needed TLC, and the nail artist told me that painting is just the cherry on top...you have to really understand nail anatomy to be great. It opened my eyes as to how I really didn't know anything! I gave myself the "ring of fire" and had gouges on my nails, making them look like they were faceted gems. I was embarrassed, but since I've learned a bit more I cant I believe I did what I did lol
@operachef1
@operachef1 3 года назад
Me too!! Not as bad as it sounds you suffered, but I had serious damage (some onycholysis on a few nails) that took about 6 months to heal. I figured, hey, I went to salons and watched them do it for years, I can do this!! Except I had no idea how to hold the efile with my non-dominant hand, what speed, what bits etc. That arrogance and subsequent payment with my once healthy nails forced me to learn slowly and practice, even if I'm only doing my own nails. When I saw this I thought, I'm not scared of my efile, I'm TERRIFIED! Thank God for Suzie. She's so clear and makes everyone feel like they can do what she does, as long as they pay attention and take her good advice!

The last time I got my nails done professionally was YEARS ago because the lady was using an efile with a pedal. She stepped on the pedal to remove my acrylic and Holy cow, I saw stars! First the burn was intense. She had the nerve to get mad at me for pulling away. Then she pulled my hand back and on the next nail she went right through my nail. I was in tears, and walked out. I watched the video and understood the message. The point of my comment stands as I was responding to the original posters comment with my own experience with an e-file being used on my nails when I had acrylics done years ago. Suzzy's entire video speaks to these very issues where the e-file is used incorrectly and how that directly impacts customers and their fears about it. She is working to teach and show methods that don't cause this. I'm confused at the point you thought you were making to directly attack me for just agreeing with the original poster. Bones are also made of calcium and yet if u inhale bone dust it is terrible for ur lungs. Something being made of something thats already in our bodies doesn't necessarily mean it's okay to inhale. Plus all the bacteria the egg shell has from the poop of the chicken. She's very smart by putting a mask on, u REALLY don't want to get that in ur lungs. I am not saying that the polymers u claim she files without a mask is good either, probs should wear a mask either way (however I don't know the safety measures for nail techs) but, as I explained before, she really should here

I love this video because I am absolutely terrified of carbide bits. When I was in high school I was an acrylics girl and my usual nail tech was out of town so they gave me some random and he chopped up my cuticles like no one’s business to where I went to express care to get a split in my cuticle glued. Between him burning me and cutting me up, I soaked my acrylics off when they grew out and haven’t gotten them since. To this day it takes all of me not to flinch when a nail tech takes off gel or dip off with anything other than an arbor band. I’ve been self taught for 8 years now and have used a cheap E file for a year but finally bought myself a nice pricey one a month ago. I kept struggling with the drill going around the finger and never thought to anchor. This is why I love learning more about nails everyday!!
@littlewifethatcould

Honestly, I was scared to purchase an e-file for the longest time because I was scared of hurting myself. I had gotten my nails done for years and every time I’d go, one of my fingers would end up getting hurt. It wasn’t ever a big issue but the sharp pinch of the pain would make me nervous for my appointments. I have been doing my own nails for few years, for a long time I didn’t branch out to many products (like hard gel and dip, etc) because filing by hand would either take too long or it wouldn’t ever come out how I expected. So eventually I bought a cheap one, and found out it was much easier than I had anticipated. Sometimes I hurt myself, but it’s far less often than what occurred at the salon. I now want to purchase a nicer one because the e-file has become my best friend. 😉

@@NailCareerEducation Thank you for your videos, Suzie! They’ve helped me so much in learning how to operate the proper equipment for a nice manicure at home. Even when the videos aren’t about filing, just being able to see what you’re doing with your files and technique has helped me learn what to do! I hope my experience can help others as well. 🤍

@@crazyredheadbeyotch8125 Yes, definitely a learning curve to it. Practice makes perfect! Taking it slow and working with and mastering the “standard” bits that came with the e-file is what I aimed for. And now that I’m comfortable with my e-file, I feel better prepared to buy different bits and even a more “powerful” e-file. Honestly, I’m still not ready to use an e-file on anyone else, but I’m at least scared of the e-file on myself anymore. 😉

I got my e file a few months back and while I'm not perfect at e filing I learned extremely fast! I was very nervous before that I'll hurt myself but nothing was like that. I've slipped some times but nothing happened or the worst would be a scratch at the cuticle so nothing to worry for sure

I’m so glad you made this video! I just bought my first efile to take off polygel and I noticed you didn’t work at very high speeds as a professional so I did the same. Taking off product is easier now and if I notice I’m not removing product then I just change bits and that works. Thank you for this video, I feel validated in the way I’ve been using the efile.

on chickens poop of sick chickens, that can get stuck to the egg shells, but you only need to wash the egg before eating it raw. since salmonella dies when the egg gets cooked anyways. those are many filters xDDDD

I bought my first e-file recently. And I love it! I only do my own nails. I was afraid of using it but in fact I prefer using it around cuticules to using a regular file.I have more control and the filing surface is much smaller. I think that I get better nail shape with e-file. Anyway you insipired me to change my manicure today :D

Wouldn't even let a professional touch me with one after that, it's been a few yrs, got a new e-file & have been very cautious with it. This taught me that I'm going about it the right way slow & very cautious. Thank you again

I’ve been taught fear of the nail drill by the friend who did my acrylics for years. She wasn’t fond of them. I only really saw her using it on me or other clients to quickly take off length or when rebalancing pink and whites. I was in the salon when a new client came in as a referral after another salon damaged her nail beds with an EFile and I got to see the rings and damage that it caused. Apparently in our area, inexpensive salons, used much stronger drills as a time saver but were notoriously dangerous because the nail technicians weren’t using them properly.

I’m only using the arbor bands on the slower settings and will only proceed when I feel more confident. However…. I need more guinea pigs. Doing my own nails once every three weeks isn’t enough. My nails are very thin and delicate (even with vitamins and dietary changes), and I always dreaded having someone new do my nails because I was scared they would hurt me, and I'd had a lot of negative experiences. I finally taught myself how to do my own nails, and I had to go through a LOT of trial and error to find the rights bits, speeds, and pressures that did the job without hurting me. I wish I had seen this video two years ago, it would have saved me a lot of grief. 😅
