The 24 hour subdial bothers me because it's so useless. Can't they modify that cheap movement to have that that sub-dial hand independently operated so you can set a second time zone?
An chinese watch has same Epson movement for $189. Does not really have a model number, listed as Tactical Frog VS75 Solar Chronograph. It has sapphire crystal, 20 bar warer resistance but a cheono bezel instead of the diver one.
For me too, this Orient looks perfect. And I almost bought the Seiko Speedtimer.... Would be kinda mad with the seiko on my wrist now and looking at this Orient, which actually more attractive with the same qualities and for half the price.
That looks amazing on the white strap. It would probably look great on just about anything. I bet it's a total strap monster. And the bracelet has female end links! I am very impressed. I recently checked out the new Hamilton Jazzmaster Chronograph in a store but it was only on leather and I thought, if I was going to pay £2k for a watch, I'd want it to come on a bracelet. So I checked various online reviews. I think it is 42 or 43mm. It also has long lugs and, totally mystifyingly, comes with male end links. What is all that about? They obviously released that watch to appeal to Daytona fans, for 99.9% of whom, a Daytona would be complete unobtainium but they really shot themselves in the foot by making it too big for just about anybody with a sub 8" or 7.5" wrist. I couldn't help but be reminded of that watch when you showed me this. And, like most watch fans these days, I love divers. I don't really need the bezel but I am far more likely to use it, than a tachymeter scale. I think this watch is amazing! It would scratch both the itch for a panda chronograph AND an Orient Mako. It would make a great budget one watch collection, too and be an excellent choice for yourself or a gift. I love it, now. I don't need it but I really, really want one. Can't help it haha.
I went to purchase this watch right after the video. It isn’t available. I reached out to ORIENT and they got back to me saying, the watch should be released at the end of summer. I was originally going to buy the Seiko “speed timer” but was hesitating because of the $700 price tag! I am glad I waited. This orient looks waaaaay better and the price is an unbelievable value. Can’t wait.
You call it a diver because It has a screw down crown that squishes an O-ring to keep the water out, but how does the pushers keep the water from getting in the watch if there isn’t any screw down locks on the pushers
Wow! That is one really stunning watch and all the more so when considering the price. I can feel my wallet getting lighter already 😂 Thanks for an excellent presentation and for highlighting this particular watch! Well done 🥃
I only found out about these yesterday. A fantastic offering from a trusted brand, while doing something a little different to the norm. I'll be after the Pepsi for sure to match my Mako II. Thanks for the great review!
*IN 2014 I SUFFERED BRAIN DAMAGE* in a mugging - they wanted my Rolex Daytona Cosmograph "panda" This is just as nice, probably not that different in quality TBH, and you almost certianly WONT get muggled for it.
Nice content, this is definitely a cool watch. It's unfortunate to say that you have a serious problem with the background music on the video. It's a bit too loud and doesn't match the pace or vibe of the footage or your voice, which is quite annoying, and it distracted me from watching the video.
Orient has taken the role of seiko as the best brand in their price range years ago really... ever since the release of the mako/ray 2. Very nice release
Why buy an Orient "chrono/diver"?!? for $300 when you can get a JDM Seiko Selection SBPY165 for under $250? I got mine NWB from a Japanese seller on ebay two months, there are dozens still available for well below $300.
Once I found out it was solar, I got wicked excited as i am a huge Citizen eco drive fan. Not a huge fan of chronographs but this is amazing for 300 bucks.
Being a fanboy of Seiko, I bought SNK805 and SNKL38 for my 6.5 inch small wrist.. I love them.. but calibre isn't that great.. after gathering knowledge from RU-vid channel, I bought Orient Kamasu green (dark teal IMO) and man , fell in love in two days with it.. better calibre, sapphire crystal, 200m diver's for a $200 watch.. and now Orient jusily killing it with their price and quality.. Seiko doesn't offer same for double the price
Thanks for this in depth review, I am literally about to buy this watch. Also considering picking up that white FKM rubber watch strap, but just to be sure did you pick the "22 mm lugs, 20 mm buckle" configuration?
I am waiting for the day where brands will ditch the useless 24h subdials. I refuse to buy chronos with them - to me it makes no sense to have a subdial that isn't linked to any of the chronograph functions.
I don't know why Seiko and Orient insist on adding that UGLY date cut out. I will stick with my Tactical Frog VS75 V2. (Better looking anyway & ceramic bezel insert all for $170.)
Fine review Andrei. These companies are perfectly able to replace the phony 24 hour dial with an authentic and still ridiculously useful 12 hour totalizer. I am told this useless dial is used everywhere to “balance the dial”. So….VK-67 is very well balanced with the traditional tri-compax layout. Sorry…rant over…..still have a pilot’s license….no medical… that’s how they get you, lol 😂
Our taste in watches are very similar and you’re very good at finding these kind of budget gems! I think this Orient look much better than it’s Seiko cousin. I was considering to buy the Timex Q Chrono (not the gmt one) but this is a really viable option to that! I wish there was a reverse panda option as well but I guess the sub=dials have to be black in order to collect sunlight.
I have the Orient Kamasu and Orient Bambino that gets more wrist time than my PRX40 and GW4 Classic. I want to have a diverse brand collection (albiet budget) but I keep getting attracted towards Orient watches. ❤
looks nice but ill take the speed timer over this. All they needed to do was make it automatic and they would have really made me reconsider. anyways its a cool watch
I love my Orient Bambino so I have no worries about Orient's quality. This is super attractive so I pulled the trigger. I'll be selling my Seiko on ebay to pay for it.. Haha
The watch overall looks great however... the finishing looks pretty cheap to me. There is some dust on the dial, the second hand of chronograph edges are poor and the second hand in subdial never hits any marker but is always between. The quality control in Orient was pretty bad on this particular piece which surprises me as I have never experienced that on other Orient watch. I apologize to ruin your joy from new watch but if I were you I would return this particular piece and ask for a different one.
Can you please do a comparison video between this mako and the citizen promaster ca0710-82L chronograph would be nice. It will be interesting to see the mako chrono take on the citizen considering both are similarly priced.
This is definitely extension to Mako 3 but I would love to have Orient panda chrono on a kamasu dial. It would kill it. Also don't know why Orient doesn't introduce gmts..
You kept Mentioning the mako ang i get it but in my opinion it is an upgrade from another solar orient which is the neo 70s. I think its the exact watch except for the bezel. If i don't own the neo 70s I'd buy this watch in an instant. Good review 👍
I must admit that i was a bit sceptical in the beginning, because i have never heard Orient before but that watch is just nice and has for its features and his solar technology a really good price. I decided to buy it and i cant wait until its finally here! Great job Orient!
I have a very nice Orient Panda Chronograph I bought from Japan and it's very nice. It's not this one and this is even better than mine. I like it! I won't buy it, but if I didn't have a panda already I'd buy it.
Although it may not be the most appropriate place to pose this question, but I am curious Andre about the significance of dive watches being water-resistant up to 100m or even 300m. Is it truly necessary for the average person who only wears their watch in the pool or shallow areas of the beach? Perhaps it would be more suitable to have dive watches with a slimmer profile, since few people who purchase these watches actually use them for diving purposes.
Agreed that tachemeter bezel would improve the look of the watch but tbh I’d never use it. Otherwise this is a miles better option than the seiko at twice the price. I’d prefer a more tapered bracelet if I was being picky (that is a downside of my orient ray) but if I were to pick this up I’d be going with your choice of a white rubber strap 😎
I honestly prefer this bezel as it feels way less cluttered and much more aesthetic in person and on wrist surprisingly, main reason I chose this over the speedtimer !
@@adityasahrawat4038 The dial and case finishing are very good. Way above what you are paying for. The watch has a healthy weight to it and wears smaller than it’s size, feels like a 40-41. The only downside is the bracelet that is very basic.
( Bland Sicko 😂) does not interest me with any of their offerings be it snowflake or misaligned bezel diver watches. That Orient rocks same as your video my friend. Great job Sir.
I have often been tempted by ie the Kamasu but the bezel (edge and insert) and confused logo cluster just keep putting me off..... Also many of the Pagani models out spec. them....
love Orient. Have the Kamasu used it as everyday watch for a year and a half. However, my current wardrobe consists of mostly tracksuits, so I have to just enjoy it on youtube for now. Would like to see some originality too, don't really care for look-alikes.
I find this a very good alternative to the Seitona. Since I like diver bezels I can live with the bezel not having a tachymeter scale. Designwise I would like the minute/hour markers to have black outlines but otherwise it looks nice. As always: great video and recommendation. 👍
what do you think between this and the Seiko Prospex Speedtimer? the Seiko is about 100 bucks dearer and has a tachymeter dail which is more in line with a chronograph. but I can't help but feel that the Orient dive bezel gives its a uniqueness. so hard to decide
@@ferexx to be honest: I don't use the tachymeter scale/function at all. That's why I don't need it. For me the Seiko feels overpriced but I like it. The Orient seems to be a good choice but where to buy it???
@@andrebreuer3264 too bad you replied late. Seriouswatches have them in stock till about a week ago. I had it in my cart for a few days but eventually decided not to pull the trigger
Ebay, or if you look for it as reference it should be available on multiple sites. Just make sure to be in stock. A lot of stores are placing orders for novelties in general
I am sorry Andrei but a 24 hour dial from ANY brand is a deal killer..instant. So many more historically correct movements. And USEFUL. I know you know Brother but all anyone has to do is go to any hi end automatic chronograph maker of tri- compax chronographs and what do you see? No dang 24 hour dials, that’s for sure (Fortis in the 90’s and the Rolex GMT 1……I only lied a little….🤪😜😂🤣😝) So, as always, man you make fine vids Sir! Thanks
I was not too sure about mako panda… but after Your video I just ordered one. Love this Daytona vibes but still… Mako does not look so much like a homage
Thoe are Not True American watch brands! The movement IS the watch! I top out at one Thousand dollars which rules out the top end! Timex,Bulova, Hamilton are not American watches, they were once and wven then not completely! Very Respectfully, you are totally missing the point!
Looks good….but honestly I would rather save my money a bit longer and buy the Seiko Prospex Speedtimer. It just looks more refined and the 39mm case and 20mm lug width is just more pleasing in looks and wearability.
What's this with daytona wannabe watches? This one is hardly close or even look like Daytona, just because it has a panda dial? Seiko SSC911P look much better, yes it's more expensive. But as all with Seiko just wait and it will be on sale to much reasonable price.
