I think a great part of the fun is in acceleration and deceleration as you come out of a corner, but if i break the speed limit as soon as I roll on the throttle a bit more aggressively I just make my squid Deamons scream in pain cause I gotte keep it in check a split second later - just being able to keep it open a bit longer on a smaller bike gives them some peace

GREAT CHOICES ! You can see how it actually works. No Downgrades here. Just (2) Upgrades to suit your needs. 🤷‍♂️ Which bike that a person should buy really depends on what they are trying to do with it. (That's why they sell so many different kinds of them) Smart people realize that motorcycles that are big, heavy, AND gutless, (like the KLR) actually kinda suck, and Royal Enfields suck, even more. Although, riding a KLR can be the appropriate compromise for some riders, usually a person is a lot happier owning more than one motorcycle. (It's Science) ! ☝🤓👍

Started with a Suzuki TU250X 3 years ago and still have it. I've put over 13k miles on it. Wanted a bigger bike and started looking at stuff like the RE Interceptor 650, but couldn't get the cash together very quickly. Picked up a '97 Honda Nighthawk 750 for cheap, put about 2000 miles on it in the 6 or 7 months I had it....Decent bike, had a lot to like about it, but among other things, it was just more power and weight than I wanted. Traded it in for a Moto Guzzi V7 III (with about 50hp, while the Nighthawk was around 75hp), no regrets. the Guzzi does everything I want it to, and is more of the "like my Suzuki, but bigger" kind of vibe that I was really looking for. Bonus, now that I've gotten pretty comfortable on that bike, I'm even more comfortable with just wailing on the throttle on the Suzuki and throwing it around a bit

@Jelle van Neerven Agreed that a 150cc is practicall for commuting in India but I disagree that big displacement motorcycles are hard to get here (the RE conti gt 650 is super accessible). I have friends who ride 1000ltr motorcycle as well and at the end of the day owning a motorcycle is a chocie of heart . Think of ktm duke 390. I am tempted to trade in either my Speed Triple or CBR 1000rr on a GSX-S1000GT. Comfortable sport touring bike with the K5 engine sounds like a good time. Downgrade on power but a upgrade in comfort.

I thought my first motorcycle was too big. My first bike I bought was an F700GS. I sold it and bought a 390 Adventure from KTM. Then I bought my dream bike, an Indian FTR 1200 FTR S. We have no Indian dealership. So I am building my experience on the KTM and riding the Indian from time to time.

I downgrades my Triumph Tiger 800 Xca to a Royal Enfield Himalayan and I love it. I don't worry about dropping it and I don't get a heard attack every time I pay insurance, want to mod it or need to replace something. Yes its slow, has old tech and doesn't want to go over 60 mph but I still love everything about it.

I haven't touched my Daytona since getting a ninja 300. It feels like i'm cheating passing liter bikes on the outside. I enter turns an average of 10mph faster compared to the 675. The 300 is better in every way except on the straight. Granted i use 4 gears on all 3 tracks at cresson but does that matter if i exit the turns 20mph faster than an r1? I don't ride on the street. Your experience may vary.

My advise would be to start on some kind of allrounder bike. Mostly these will be Nakeds or Supermotos or Enduros, with the supermotos beeing the best option in my Opinion. This first bike does not have to be in the best condition and the latest model and with the highest specs because your main goal should be collection experience and skills with a bike in general, and figuring out what you want to do with your bike. Then, once you feel comfortable that you have figured that out, get a bike that differs to yours in the direction you want it to. For me, this journey gave me 3 bikes that i progressively loved more and more. I started out with 16 on a 125cc Supermoto. had to be 125cc because thats the only thing you can ride with 16 in germany and I chose a Supermoto because I am quite tall. This bike I mostly used to commute to school every day but I also used it on quite a few joyrides. In the 2 years until I could upgrade my license for a 48hp Bike, I noticed that I loved the height of the bike, I loved riding on gravelroads occasionally and I enjoyed a relaxed ride much more than trying to go as fast as possible all the time. Things that annoyed me on this bike were the lack of passing power, no options to carry stuff other than with a backpack and how unstable it felt in the wind. So to expand on all the points I enjoyed and in an effort to get rid of those that annoyed me, I got a BMW F650GS Dakar. And I absolutely loved this bike. It had everything I wanted from a Motorcycle at the time and I rode the shit out of this bike für 3 Years. Loved the height, loved the power, loved the luggage system, loved the heated grips, loved the wind protection, loved how effortless it was to got down Dirt Roads even with larger potholes. At that point, there were only a few things that I didn't absolutely love. Firstly, I didn't need as much offroad capability as the Dakar had with the 21'' front Wheel because I live in Germany and we barely have any Dirt Roads left. Secondly it felt a bit unstable at times on the road due to the soft suspension. Thirdly it was still a bit much affected by cross winds and last but not least, it had a bit too short gearing to go 130kmh on the Autobah for longer periods of time when I wanted to go on vacation with the bike. So I wanted a bike with a bit more road bias and less offroad bias than the dakar, that is a bit heavier and has more power and a 6th gear for riding on the Autobahn. So I got a 1200GS. And I feel like this is the perfect bike for the riding I do. It can comfortably take everything I throw at it and has never left me longing for more. The only negative thing I can say about this bike is that it is a bit heavy to move arount in the garage but I wouldn't say it is harder to manouver around, becuase the Handlebars are a bit lower so the ergonomicy are better.

Up or Down is kinda subjective. I have a harley softtail and a klr 650, both were my dads bikes so no selling them. Both have the same power to weight ratio, so my desire for another bike is kinda only driven by power to weight ratio. To someone else it may look like I have two bikes but it feels like I have one that transforms depending on what I pay for insurance.

Recently I've got Ninja 250R, while still keeping Speed Triple. I truły love that flickable, green goblin. It lacks power, and thanks to that, I can focus on my cornering techninqe. If someone thinks it is slow, no it is not. On supersoft Mitas MC50 tyres, it ripps corners 15-20mph faster than Speed Triple. On track I overtake everything in corners. From outside and inside. And when I get back on Speed Triple I can appreciate pure power rush more.

There are a lot of interesting points. I got myself an SV1000S as a starter bike (I know, I know), and it has been scaring the shit out of me for the first month of riding. I kinda grew into it a little, but I'm still considering a downgrade. Now the good question is is buying a smaller but almost twice as expensive MT-07 a downgrade? I like the idea of being able to toss my bike around and not feel too bad about it and also to be able to use more of it. Like if I got a 600 naked I could probably wring it out and still be okay, whereas with my current bike I've learnt to be really smooth and respectful.

For me it’s about hp:weight ratio. I’ve owned bikes 1.75 lbs / 1hp all the way to 11lbs / hp. The sweet spot for me is around 4lbs/1hp. An example would be the 701SM. I have an 890 Duke R at the moment and can’t wait for the 490 Duke or RC 490 to come to the US.

I couldn’t see myself selling, downgrading or jut NOT having some kind of Supersport. So I decided to buy a second bike to keep my 2021 CBR600RR company. As a Honda fanboy, I went with a 2004 Honda VTX 1300, which was a downgrade and a bike completely out of my comfort zone. It’s heavy, chrome bits all over, cruiser-style, lots of low-end torque, V-twin engine, shaft drive, carbureted, super comfortable etc. Downgrading to a VTX made me understand why folks get a cruiser bike and it’s comfort, and also appreciate the performance of my CBR and respecting such a weapon. I did have a CBR1000RR as my second bike many years ago, and quickly downgraded to a 600CC class Supersport, because they’re just far better on track and have power you can tap into during the daily haul. Needless to say, I’m never getting a litre SuperSport again, and would love to venture into Cafe Racer and Naked Bikes from Triumph in the future. My next “downgrade” will probably be a Trident 660 or Thruxton RS

coming from southeast asia, even a 150cc is plenty fast in city traffic and daily commute. anything bigger than a 250 is definitely overkill. the only time you wanted something bigger than a 650, is when you are on a freeway, where roads are bigger with longer straight.

from an outside perspective... someone who has been off a bike for years, but would want to get back in with a decade or two later perspective... but the coolest bike I would love to have is WAY too much bike, and way too much $$$... Diavel 1260S. Wish there were a 850-900cc variant like the Multistrada, but the Monster and Multistrada are not quite the same as the size and style of the Diavel. Would love an R-NineT with the looks and ergos of an update R1100S and Duolever. A stripped down no-bags modest fairing Gold Wing would be interesting. Would love a M-G V100 Mandello. Just looking forward to that one, but probably going to be expensive. Bikes like MT-07 and Trident 660 are likely enough power... but probably too small physically, my NT650 Hawk GT was WAY too small, but such a sublime bike. I may be an audience of 1 for an interesting road bike somewhere between a naked standard, sport tourer, and a cruiser that can handle, like Diavel, without off-road aspects of an adventure, scrambler, or dual-sport.
