Here's how to paint an apple with watercolor. We're going to use underpainting to add depth and realism to this watercolor painting. Underpainting is a useful painting technique that allows you to paint your shadows first.

Be aware that if you paint yellow over blue, there's a good chance you'll end up with green. Depends which blue you use. Payne's or Davy's Greys (which are both actually bluey grey, although admittedly the latter sometimes has more of a greenish tinge) are much more reliable, and won't create green when used in layering. It's also worth bearing in mind the old adage "Tone does the work and colour gets the glory".
@dannydrwing
@dannydrwing 9 месяцев назад
True! I think the apple might be the perfect subject here because green doesn’t necessarily look out of place. I’ve definitely used paynes grey as well.

Great tips and a lovely aesthetic sense. So, after 30 years I'm getting back into watercolours because I need art in my life right now to keep me sane while the world falls apart and rockets fly overhead. But, why else would we need art but to make sense of the senseless? So, congrats Danny. You're now my art teacher. Good luck ;)

It isn’t always necessary to keep your paints super clean or your water. However, having more than one water cup to switch between can help. Also rinsing your brush before getting a new color is a must for keeping really pure colors.

To ask what we'd want you to paint next would put you in a tough position. There's really only one other thing you could do to match but not top what you just did. You just painted the one fruit most resembling the Heart, to pull a Newton and add an empty clutched hand above would be to paint the most powerful symbol in all the Universe. The gravity of Love. Everything else, flowers, landscapes, sky, sun and moon, ocean & waves, people, all are constructs of where Love abodes, that simple apple. Good technique. Thanks for the tutorial.

Sometimes! If you don’t want the paint to blend together, you should let it dry. If it blends too much everything might turn into a brown blob. Dry paper will make sharp lines, damp paper will let us blur and mix a little. Trial and error!
