When I started racing flat track in 1969 - 1970 There were a group of us kids all racing flat track, or trying to. We decided that we needed to work together to learn how to do it better. We started going to "The Hole". This was a hole between the creek and the roadway so that if the creek flooded in the winter the houses on the other side of the road wouldn't be swamped so quickly. Anyway, we made a series of exercises, a sweeping turn, a tight turn some banked turns and some off camber turns. We had areas where we would practice starts and would put rocks on the inside of the turns to make then tighter or wider. Then we would practice each of them everyday after school. I was on my HD ERS, Kimbal was on his Yamaha 250, Lurch was on his Yamaha 125 and my kid brother on his little bike. I don't remember what it was. We wouldn't just ride we would seriously practice various parts of flat track and Scrambles. We would critique each other and seriously try and get better. After several months of this we went from going to the track and running practice and a heat then going home to qualifying for the main to winning heats then to winning mains. There was no quarter given nor asked for and we had a blast. Ah, memories.

Flattraching isn’t as easy as I thought but hell I knew I couldn’t win my first time ! Looking forward to getting back at it some day .
