I've read 1,000 books over the past decade.
Here's what I've learned.
Most books are simply one great idea surrounded by 300 pages of fluff.
In other words:
Most books are a complete waste of time.
Let me save you some time:
Here are 12 that are worth re-reading every year.

I definately check some of these out. I find it is the reflection and integration steps the most challenging. Determining what is really valuable, and then consistently applying it can be challenging in a world with constant demands. Some of my favourite life improvement books are much simpler, like David Allen's "Getting Things done". Just remembering what the priorities are in life, and taking action on what needs to be done next, is so important to making progress.

@@AnthonyVicino "Meditations" is truly one of the greatest books ever written. Another one is "The Discourses of Epictetus", written at about the same time as Meditations was being put together by the wisest of the Roman Emperors. These two literally changed my life, radically. I had read a lot and certainly learnt much before these two books, but the wisdom in them is just priceless, oye-openning in ways that I never before thought about. This is a great list. After my high school best friend of 32 years died at the end of last year, I made a decision to spend even more time reading than I have so far. Today, I finished my 70th book for the year. Re-reading books is one of the most important habits of reading deeply. You asked for 3 lessons from your video and here they are: • On the strength of your video, there's a couple of books I'm going to give a second chance: Almanack and Power of Now. • I'm going to put a boot up my backside and FINALLY get around to reading Influence. • The book by Austin Kleon sounds like just the tonic I need to give myself permission to release my entrepreneurial art into the world. Man's search for meaning by Viktor Frankl is by far the best book ever written for a male human being who aspires to do anything with his life. It basically makes all your excuses for not doing something completely invalid and silly. I read it when I was lost in life and without a purpose (age 26) of how to make money working for myself, live freely and have time for myself, not only for bosses and bills, and 3-4 years later I was a millionaire, solving all problems and obstacles along the way with ease.

The Great Mental Models 5. The One Thing 6. The Almanack of Naval Ravikant 7. Influence 8. Thinking Fast and Slow 9. Fooled by Randomness 10. Antifragile 11. Show Your Work 12. Thanks Anthony for the great video. You referenced one book that you indicated it would take maybe 30 minutes to read. What are your techniques for accomplishing that, it may be in one of your other videos which I have not seen but what do you recommend. I’m a slow reader and my eyes are getting less comfortable to be able to read. I do audiobooks where I can crank up the speed and bookmark sections. I miss reading though and open to techniques for reading faster.
@AnthonyVicino
@AnthonyVicino 7 месяцев назад
Well, that book is a quick read mainly because it's really short and has lots of pictures. I'm actually not a terribly fast reader, and I think it's counterproductive to try learning to read faster. Just read at whatever read is right for you. Focus on comprehension, not completion. Everything else will fall into place.
@BernWag
@BernWag Месяц назад
I'm going to read as many as I can manage. I agree though, and I'm an active reader. One book often leads to other books or at least research. For example, reading Andrew Marr's History of the World led me to read Gilgamesh. Reading a Grisham novel led me to read MacDonald's Bullet for Cinderella. Sometimes I just research an idea, like when reading Asimov's many books, I often find myself researching topics regarding the galaxy and the Universe. And so on. Yep, read deep and reap the rewards.
