From the outside, it just looks like any normal shrine with a sizeable stone torii gate but just a short walk beyond that is the main filming location for the ‘ Megitsune ‘ (2013) music video. The Noh Hall is used for various traditional performing arts, festivals and a Babymetal video! The three girls and the band perform the song on stage with the modern impression of bonsai pictured on the wooden panel behind them. This part of the shrine complex is not open every day so please be aware of that should you wish to see it in all its glory. Sunday seems to be the best bet for when it is open for public viewing. This is one of the “Ten Shrines Of Tokyo‘ which are considered the most important as they were selected in 1868 by Emperor Meiji after he had moved to Edo and renamed it Tokyo. The beautiful red torii gates also featured in ‘Tokyo Pop‘ (1988) and they are proof that you really don’t need to go to Kyoto to see such an image!
I saw them live in 2020 in a small club. Best concert I ever had. I moshed and jumped the hell out of it, great workout. Also really intimate atmosphere where everyone just went nuts. Can't wait for them to return.
Honestly I’ve got so caught up in the hype of Babymetal lately! Booked to see them in April! This is one of those groups you need to watch live versions, so much more impressive in my opinion! The way Su leads the crowd is insane! Road of resistance would be a great video to react to!
With Babymetal you MOST DEFINITELY want to watch the live version FIRST, and only later, if you are bored, go watch the studio version. With the exception of Karate, the video for that one is cool :)
If I were to name one song to characterize BABYMETAL, this would be it. The fusion of Metal, Pop and traditional tunes is part of the whole concept. But its not just in the music, it’s in the choreography, the video, the lyrics… And like the whole phenomenon that is BABYMETAL, it takes a certain amount of open-mindedness to understand and appreciate it. But if you bring that, you can have more fun than with any other band.
My comment is disappearing again, I will try to split it. Great reaction - and yes react to live versions as well ... the official videos with studio audio are all very good and well worth seeing, but you will see and hear why live BABYMETAL is best BABYMETAL. Also look up lyrics after you have seen the videos, don't let them distract you from the performance - and if there is an emotion they want you to feel don't worry, you will feel it - they are so good at that even if you can't understand a word they say. As Su-metal once said "Don't think. Feel."
If you want another international band to check out and broaden your horizons more check out Bloodywood! They're out of New Delhi, India, and I CANNOT recommend them enough. Aaj, Endurant, Jee Veerey, Yaad, Gaddar, Ari Ari are all great places to start. Another band I highly recommend is Alien Weaponry, they're from New Zealand and all of native Maori descent. Most of their lyrics are in Maori too. To date the best band I've seen live, including Avenged Sevenfold, Garth Brooks, and Alan Jackson. Kai Tangata is where most people start with them, but my favorite is Rū Ana Te Whenua or Ahi Kā.
This is just the beginning, Megitsune is one of their earliest songs. I love the energy and how it's imbued with Japanese culture, from the lyrics and melody (Sakura) to the instruments. I've jumped down the foxhole countless times and gladly do it again as you venture through their songs. Looking forward to the next one! Edit: By the way, I hope you eventually react to "Everything You Need To Know About BABYMETAL" by CrypticMisery.
You want to see the mosh pits? React to Road Of Resistance live from Japan. You want to hear them rap? React to Iine (E-nay) and BxMxC (Babymetal cypher) also they have a guest Thai rapper named F Hero on the song Pa-Pa-Ya! A note about the live performances. In Japan, it is considered rude to sing along with the singer. So, with Babymetal Moa-Metal and Yui-Metal engage with the audience and they sing along with them, not Su-Metal.
Although, they dont mind it much when performing in other countries when the crowd sings along with Su-metal. There is a great fan-cam video of a club full of American metal-heads singing along start to finish "Doki Doki⭐Morning". Kitsune Da-O! 🤘🦊🤘
Hey I know you from Samson reaction videos! You related it to K-Pop because the West was recently introduced to mainstream Asian music through Korean pop songs. The term J-Pop has been coined for more than 3 decades now.
I've been following Babymetal for more than 7 years now. They're preparing a new tour and releasing RU-vid versions of the new material. I was lucky enough to see them live in Chicago before the pandemic shut everything down. Just as a perspective on who I am, I'm a 67 year-old man who just loves good and entertaining music.
This is my 3rd Cliff vid in a row, Today is a good day. I think if Cliff really enjoyed the vocals in this one then the next should be "Ijime, Dame, Zettai"
I think Megitsune is their best song, personally. It goes super hard/heavy and yet is distinctly Japanese. "Syncopation" is also fantastic, but technically not released in the US (but can find the song on RU-vid)
'Megitsune' regularly tops fan polls for favourite song. It reflects a lot of the Japanese culture starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains why the fox masks were so prominent in the video) which in Japanese mythology are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody ("crying at heart, smiling at face") - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The breakdown with the pig squeals uses the exact melody of the old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled the short blade (tanto) from her microphone (loved your reaction when that happened - in the live she does a high kick) she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. Much of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. The guys at the back pretending to play traditional Japanese instruments are dancers with the Movement Design group. Chidori Yakumo is their director. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown.
⚡ 💀 💕 / 🦊 ⛩ In my mind this is quintessential BABYMETAL. No one writes Electronicore-Festival-Kawaii-Enka Metal songs like that anymore. : ) The hype for this one is unreal at their live shows. It incorporates a lot of festival shouts, like "Sore, sore, sore, sore!" ("Go! Go! Go! Go!") It's no surprise that it often tops fan polls for favorite BABYMETAL song. They've performed this one more often than any other song. One of Su's favorites, even if it is difficult to sing this one live. The lyrics are really interesting, and the music video for this song is a masterpiece. Still my favorite BABYMETAL song, video and choreography. This one slays live, and always hypes up the audience. Su-metal likes to think of this song as expressing the Japanese character of facing adversity with resilience. A person might feel sad or overwhelmed, but they put on a brave face and carry on. She has talked about how adult women are so cool as they never show suffering, by acting quite as usual even in a hard time, and she hopes to be like that as well. In most cases, when you see a bunch of guys in white robes behind them, that will be the Kami Band they have for live concerts. However, the performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group. Chidori Yakumo is their director and choreographer. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown.
Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 In Chicago, on Sept.20, 2019 at Aragon Ballroom, BABYMETAL started their concert with this song with matured voice in front of some 5,000 audience. Of course they were grown up beautiful ladies then. This popular song was performed in all of their 10 BABYMETAL Budokan concerts last year. Please explore BABYMETAL more.
@@michelm.6033 I could not find the link you referred to, but two possibilities. One is "Hen-tai へんたい 変態!" meaning a pervert. Saiki is jokingly call Kanami "Hentai" because Kanami likes Saiki very much and sometimes act as a hilarious stalker. Kanami sometimes flips Miku's skirt on stage, too 😄 . The other is "Han-shin はんしん 阪神". It is a shortened name of "Hanshin Tigers", a professional baseball team that Saiki loves enthusiastically. The team is based in Osaka and considered as a longstanding rival of Tokyo Giants, the most popular team in Japan. Hanshin fans including Saiki want Hansin to be stronger and more popular, but Hanshin is not so sophisticated or not smart like Giants. (like Cubs in comparison with Yankees ? 🤔). I know that Saiki used both words in her Japanese lessons during the US tour.
@@flugelhornoldman1362 Oh, thank you sir (KS). I believe your first definition makes the most sense. Their first word of the language lesson referred to a baseball team. I understand the rivalry concept. It appeared more, “intense or funny to the crowd,” so I’m sure the first definition is correct. I apologize for my ignorance. Still working, but it will take a life time. Hoping for a lottery ticket. Much love and respect. 🫶
If you go to the RU-vid channel, Babymetal Reactors Resource, there will be videos of live shows and they'll have lyrics on the screen. To me, the lyrics are a bit distracting because there is always so much going on visually but you should check them out anyway. I rarely understand wtf growl vocals are saying either so, like a foreign language song, the vocals act as another musical instrument.
The thing about BabyMetal is that the songs are kind of developed with the live show in mind. At least/especially early on. The studio tracks/MVs are almost...advertising for the live show. BabyMetal is always better live. That said, this video and the video for Karate are excellent and worth watching. The meaning of the lyrics of Karate are more clearly illustrated by the video than the live performance, imo, so while Karate live is always awesome, the MV is a Must Watch. Beyond that, the live performances are exactly what they originally intended people to see. The live is the final product, the endgame, the proper way to experience this band. They invest a LOT into their concert production for that very reason. It's as much musical theater as anything, and personally, that's one of the things I love most about BabyMetal. 🤘🦊🤘 Enjoy your journey down the Fox Hole.
I really liked your first 2 reactions to this amazing band and I look forward to even more reactions, I would like you to see "Rondo of nightmare" It's a spectacular song
Babymetal is a trip. I haven't heard all their songs, but my favorite is Pa Pa Ya, which features another rapper toward the end. Ultimately, the lyrics are pop, which tends to sound a lot better in other languages (a.k.a. when you don't know the words).
Love the BabyMetal reactions! They really don't get the recognition they deserve. Road of resistance, Line! Or the new song I can't actually remember the name of right now are all superb
I always look up the lyrics, but it's not really necessary. The emotional message of the song comes through, regardless. From what I've read about their songwriting process, the vocal melody precedes the lyrical content, and I think that's part of what makes it work so well for non-Japanese audiences. Their lyrics are quite good, once you dig into them, but the actual words are just a layer on top of something that's already very powerful. The live versions are almost universally better than the studio tracks, you just have to find the ones that are high quality and won't get blocked. There are a few more songs where the official video is the way to go, though. "Karate" has a great music video, for example. Personally I think you should check out the live version of "Headbanger" from the "Legend 1997" concert. It's one of the two videos that really got me hooked on them in the first place. (Legend 1997 refers to the year the lead singer was born, not the year of the concert)
I can't remember what song it is but they did a live version and it was extended and it was amazing to see how the crowd reacted, It was almost like a cult. It might have been a post Covid concert but i'm not sure. I think the song was "Head Bangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!"
Probably you're talking about Headbanger!! live at Legend Metal Galaxy 2020 Day 2 right before the lockdown, and it was really dope no doubt about it, but i always recommend first the live version with the original trio, plus is safe to react, like the Legend 1997 version and he won't need that watermarked logo 😉🤘
Love babymetal and I'm looking forward to you discovering 'Bandmaid' you're in for a treat 👍 You should also check the lyrics for this song 😂 it's not one for the feminists that's for sure 😂 Babymetals BMC is one I think you'd like.
Nice reaction! Hope you do some more and hope you do some more live videos rather than music videos. I'm sure you will say "that's my new favorite" on almost every video you choose and there's a lot of bangers still to come.
As you could see, Amuse can be strict sometimes with copyright blocks... Here is a brief guide on which videos are not safe: - Most of their official MV are safe, with the exception of "Megitsune", "GImme Chocolate", "Karate", "Road of Resistance" live in Japan, "No Rain No Rainbow" live at Legend S, "The One - Stairway to living Legends". All the other MV are usually pretty safe to react to - Festival appaerances are usually safe, and the best ones are "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" from Sonisphere 2014, "Karate" from Download 2016, "Distortion" from Download 2018. Please avoid anything from Glastonbury, since it had really bad audio :D - Live performances from 2014 and earlier are usually safe, and the best shows are "Legend 1997" in 2013 and "Budokan" in 2014. If you want to see a live performance from their first album, live "Gimme Chocolate" and "Megitsune", and you want a safe reaction, try looking for the title of the song + one of these 2 shows. - Live performances from 2015 and later get almost always blocked. To go past over that you already saw that a watermark is often enough, expecially for their official MV. For the lives it might not be enough, and you might want to add some adjustment to opacity, or as last resort you could try looking up a compilation.
_Sore!_ 🦊🤘🔥 You arrived to another BM classic and beloved song, so good you came back so soon, this time with a song from eponymous 1st album. Don't worry about the Kpop thing, i know sometimes for newcomers is a common mistake, especially if you come to listen that genre from a long time or being your first introduction into Asian music mainstream. This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 and 15 yo, so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the _shamizen_ a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri). "Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them. During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance. Song is about female empowerment and if you reach the lyrics you'll see about it, "Megitsune" means female vixens, and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you, they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving. Japanese friends told that "megitsune" is a peyorative term in Japanese culture (pretty much all around the world too) but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself. When SuMetal (the lead singer) is pulling out the _tanto_ she's saying _"maidens shouldn't be uderstimated",_ that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During live performance she does something different and looks really cool doing it. Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top ranking songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why you will hear her doing sound check with this song before live concerts. One of my favorite version is the "Red Fox Festival 2017" with a room full of megitsune only, you can find that version at Reactor Resource I told you previously how can you find those clips usually safe to react but lately that specific version hasn't been so safe so instead you can look for the live at Budokan 2014, that usually won't get any issue, but just in case put some filters like opacity or translucent effect to avoid being blocked. In case i or someone didn't explain you about the origin of the "fox sign", here's why. The Fox God (Kitsune Sama) is the Metal God who sent these girls (and Kami Band after to help them with the metal sound) to unify the world and set them free from Jpop slavery. The kitsune sign came out by accident around the time they created the group by the girls when trying to imitate the typical metal horn sign they noticed it was similar when doing fox shadow shape, they implemented this as part of the lore, imagery, theme and live concerts, the lore is huge so take your time and keep digging and riding the Foxhole 🦊🤘 Btw they praised for real and made a ritual to the Fox God for this song to be a hit and successful, and thanks to the Fox God this is one of their major hits and favorite BM fan songs. -NotACult- Now you know why we said "kitsune" (fox) to male fans and "megitsune" to female fans, but collectively we are known as "The One", that's the official fandom name. See you next time and kitsune up 🦊🤘
As a metalhead from way back in the 70's..My suggestions for your next Babymetal reactions are more recent songs- "Kagerou", there is a HQ live compilation that has the band doing solo intro. The other would be "Syncopation" and also has a live HQ compilation video that is really good. Glad you are enjoying Babymetal and it's nice to watch you react to a first time listen. 🤘🦊🤘 Link for "Kagerou" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Hg3QsPI3x1M.html
Personally I would recommend against watching compilations, as they vary wildly in quality (usually toward the low end) and just aren't the best way to experience a song for the first time. There's a much better way to get around the copyright restrictions on their recent live stuff, and it's basically exactly what Cliff has been doing already - put a logo over it. The Babymetal Reactor Resource channel has a bunch of videos already uploaded with logos over them, and if you check in the descriptions, you'll find links to the original versions of each so you can watch those and then edit the logo in afterward, Cliff. Also, seconding the suggestion for Syncopation
Favorite "so far". That's probably going to change, more than once 😆 Not that this isn't a great song of course, but it can get difficult to pick a favorite with this band. Then there's the live versions that make the studio versions sound boring, which is a whole other realm altogether 🦊🤘
The pits at their shows resemble more of a slam dancing variety than a pit. I don't think most of their fans could handle an actual pit that you'd find at something like a Snapcase or Hatebreed show. That doesn't stop me from doing windmills when I dance to their songs in my house.
Really should do as much live stuff with babymetal, the exception would probably be BxMxC and maybe karate but I prefer the live karate, but 100% live for road of resistance
Here is more Babymetal you might want to check out, the first three are live Road of Resistance - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zTEYUFgLveY.html Rondo of Nightmare live - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8WBDiLMNZcE.html Rondo of Nightmare live Headbanger live - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YjjWZpf_jSs.html BxMxC - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ng8mh6JUIqY.html
Try Kagerou for a more mature sound and to see the band at the forefront. Currently Su is around 25yrs and Moa 23 yrs, theyve just released their latest - Divine Attack
That was fun. You're gonna get a lot of differing opinions on what is best to react to. I would say Road of Resistance live in Japan. The music video version of Karate. Everything else live. Legend 1997 versions are generally the best (IMO) And be sure not to forget Death: Legend 1997.
To be precise, it is the birth of the BABYMETAL genre. BABYMETAL is happy metal that cheers everyone up and makes them smile! In 2014, BABYMETAL toured Europe, performing miracles at the first metal festival they attended on their UK tour!BABYMETAL - Ijime,Dame,Zettai - Live at Sonisphere 2014,UK (OFFICIAL ) On the theme of bullying. "Let's all stop bullying!". It was a very touching stage... look forward to SEE YOU😁 The link is in the reply field
so glad to see you getting into babymetal. megitsune def my favorite from them. would love to see you keep exploring japanese metal. there's actually quite a large rock/metal scene in japan. I highly recommend checking out the bands "band-maid" and "ningen isu" next. band-maid has like an early 2000's nu-metal sound. recommended songs are "thrill" or "real existence." ningen isu has more of an OG metal sound, one their main influences is black sabath and you can really hear it in some their songs. recommend "heartless scat" or "the colour out of space."
Undoubtedly you'll have many of the One tell you that Babymetal is best served live - and I agree with them - but I would suggest looking at their MV's first ( I recommend their first, "Doki Doki Morning", released in 2012 - that's right, TEN years ago!) because many of them are real works of art (as demonstrated by "Megitsune"). Their second MV, "Iine!" (pronounced "EE-nay") - also released in 2012 - will peg your "WTF" gauge! Lastly, when you do eventually get to their live performances ( I highly recommend watching the "Legend 1997" concert in it's entirety), you'll want to avoid compilation videos like the plague. Compilation videos are, in my opinion, an insult to both the viewer and the band; the music is certainly overdubbed, and the changes in venue and costumes (sometimes even personnel) can be confusing if not completely annoying. Watching a Babymetal compilation video is like eating prime rib after somebody else chewed it. You're not reacting to Babymetal, you're reacting to a highlight reel of Babymetal. Enjoy your trip down the foxhole! KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘
Hey cliff you should check out road to resistance live in bodukai i think i spelled it right lol i wanted to hate babymetal but they got undeniable talent. :)
You seem open to mixed genres so when you have the time check out Hacktivist. It’s like a mix of djent metal and grime (I believe). Basically UK Rap over hard hitting metal riffs. Hacktivist - Elevate is a decent starting point
Love that you are getting into more extravagant specimens of certain genres. I'd love to see you react to Hypa Hypa by Electric Callboy. Or Superhero Jagganath by Diablo Swing Orchestra.
I suggest that you use the links below From the Babymetal Reactor Resource ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q40VmTHSh4c.html Going forward, if reactors want to keep reacting to the videos, I've come up with a solution that will make it possible to continue using the videos with logos that have already been tested against blocks. I've made a spreadsheet - docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZYdthVAHYaOAYL6AuhVOHotQinMoPPFEuspqDMIIGD4/edit#gid=0 with links to both the logo and the non-logo videos, hosting them on a Russian social media site that won't remove them, and is out of the reach of the copyright trolls. There are a bit over 30 videos on there now, but I'll keep uploading more every day until they're all backup. I'll also be adding new videos that I'll test on an alt RU-vid account before adding to the spreadsheet. If you can't access the spreadsheet for whatever reason, here are direct links to both the non-logo videos and the videos with logos: No logos - ok.ru/video/c6630874 With logos - ok.ru/video/c7184602 For reactors that want to put their logo over the videos, here is a link to the logos I use that are already made transparent - drive.google.com/file/d/1JUVfJGp36xR2n1FHl7PzRIxXhA5P4VyW/viewor you can use whatever logo you'd like. You can download the videos, which I recommend since the site can be a bit laggy sometimes, from this free website - okvid.download Although there are other videos on my channel there, only use the ones on the spreadsheet because some of the other non-logo videos aren't RU-vid-safe. lol no. There are thousands of different animes and all of them have different types of music. Just because they are japanese doesn't make this anime music. And so far not a single babymetal song has not been used in any anime.
@@Audiostyleable Just a respectful reply. To be honest I have never watched a single anime in 60+ years. However, I enjoy LiSA, And Uru who have done anime songs. Additionally, Suzuka’s first professional group, Karen Girls was actually formed for an anime series. However, if that’s all you know about Babymetal I kinda feel sorry for you. I certainly get the opinion, but it leads me to believe you haven’t given them a deeper listen. Either way, thanks for the comment as it gives the algorithm another number to count in support the Babymetal.

YES! That's what my brain had to do when I became a fan of BABYMETAL a few years. Before BABYMETAL I stayed away from non-English music and didn't get how so many Americans actually listen to kpop or other non-English music, but then BABYMETAL changed all of that for me. I'm Filipino-American and I don't even listen to Filipino music! LOL
