@@MichaelTurner856 because he probably hasnt watched any other vid from Underbelly so he cant undertsand the vibe. and by clever he probably meant genius but whatever
That's actually a horrible way to mix your kick and bass. All you had to do was tune your kick and bass together and side chain you lost a great deal of power from the Kick by cutting it the way you did. Another thing you could have done was cut most of the low end from the bass and add a separate sub bass and do what I said previously. You'll get that nice deep rumble effect to really shake the building up.
What he's trying to drive home is that the VERY first part of your signal chain, the very first tool you should be employing in mixing is your choice of samples/instruments. He also should have tried to get people to realize, if shits clashing that means you suck at A: sound design B: selection of samples C: song writing and arrangement, but more than likely, all of the above. If your mentality is to side chain every thing and eq everything, then i'm sorry you're not going to get very good at production, because you're not going to get very good at song writing/arranging.
If you do that you get that ducking effect from sidechaining, that is not always wanted, especially in non EDM tracks. This is just another form of mix Kick & Bass.
In my 10 years history on youtube, this is the first channel I am hitting that like button before watching the video.Because I know I'm going to like it...Ok so check it!:)
Can you pitch up the 1st kick to a 3rd or 5th of the bass note? And then do the EQ? And, is sidechaine comp basically a more intense version of this? It never dawned on me to clean the kicks sub! Much appreciated! :D
hey underbelly, I watched this video, your side chain compression video, and your warmth video but my bass/kick combo just isn't swaggy enough. Should I sign up for private lessons or is there a simpler solution?
Hi Underbelly, I like your sarcastically and cynical humor alongside these videos. Keep up the good work! Best regards, Emiel (you can pronounce my name as: A Meal).
Following along with you video, i intially cut the low freqs from the kick but it didn't sound right. So i swapped it, took the filter off the kick and filtered the freqs in question from the bass line and it sounded much better to me. Now im a rookie so i have to ask, is the way i did not a good idea?
Great vid! Thanks, hilarious psycho producer. So how do you choose which one to cut the sub from - is it for technical reasons or aesthetic ones? E.g. would you EQ the sub to let the bass through because the bass has strong melody and character (aesthetic reason)?
it was not, it was bad! but dont worry it was meant to be bad xD what you should really do is sidechain so whenever kick attacks your sub stops playing so it doesnt affect the kick. if you have any questions about sidechaining please ask :D
@@hithere4289 Hey Mate, Yeah so with Ableton I have been Sidechaining using the Gain Compressor, Not sure If I am better off just sidechaining with a normal compressor?
ive been using ableton for about 6 years now and learnt everything i know from youtube tutorials. most of them are boring af or i have to continually take the video back to rewatch things cos i have adhd and just drift the fuck off. also so many are full of unimportant garbage or the person talking bout how sweet they are. ive watched most of yr channel today + ive learnt so many things hidden in plain sight or i just never thought about or bothered to look up cos yr vids are short, entertaining, funny and just work so fkn well for me. anyways jus wan say thanks! wowsers yr amazing okee so check it xoxoxo
@You Suck at Producing Are you doing this on all your tracks? What about applying this method to techno music? Would be nice to see video where you mixing techno bass and kick ...
