The people at this show didn’t know how lucky they were to witness him playing this song and how amazingly he sang it. He even told them “you need to listen to this one”. Well Freddie, we are all listening now. You were right.
This is one of the few times Freddie sand live with his “studio” voice and it’s amazing. He was able to sing with his comfortable voice like this because he was fighting with a blaring band behind him. I wish he had done more solo stuff with just him and a piano. How amazing would that have been if he had giving stripped down concerts of just him and maybe Brian on acoustic.

I’ve heard this song a thousand times. And each time I listen to it, it gives me shivers down my entire body. Freddie was smart enough to realize his gifts and he USED them. God bless you Freddie. ❤❤

I seen Queen only once in New York a small place around 2500 seating capacity The Beacon Theater in February 1976 I was around 20 rows back left center of the stage in front if Freddie's piano when he did this song and I myself and everyone there was mesmerized and amazed by the beauty and the silk sound of Freddie's voice when he did this song, I was left with my mouth open as every one else and the hairs on the back of my neck and arms stood up, you could hear a pin drop while he was singing this song so to speak. We all were in a awe as we all knew we were experiencing greatest and the making of a legend before our very eyes. His voice went right through you like one of the old memorez cassette comerical like when the guy is sitting in a chair in front of a speaker playing music and his hair and clothing a blowing from the power and great sound coming out of speakers. That night for me a Star and maybe a God was born, from that moment on is when I became a BIG QUEEN FAN and still am. I have over 100 concerts in my life time like Led zep, the who, black sabbath, Rod Stewart you get my drift all the big bands from that 1970 era and till today and Queen and Mr Mercury blew them away, I am not saying the other bands were not great and performed well cause they did and were but Queen to me was in a class by themselves and Freddie put them over the top with style, grace, showmanship, voice and pure talent. Its a night I was glad I experience and will never forget. This clip was from that same year 1976 just a different place and month. gee I feel Blessed to have witness that song live right in front of me
Rare to hear him do so much falsetto live. He was clearly proud of this song. Could be my favourite Freddie song. I love the confidence he has, even a death stare, when he tells the crowd to listen. What a titan of a man.
It moves me to tears. I can't listen to it if I have somewhere to go because my face will be red and my eyes puffy. If a man wrote me a song like this my heart would burst from ecstasy. Too bad Mary turned out to be such a _____ after he died she treated his best friends like shit and even sent the cats Jim gave him to a shelter even though Jim asked if he could have them. I won't ever forgive that. I hope Freddie slaps her when they are reunited in the afterlife. She didn't deserve this song. But at the end of the day, the song's about Freddie and HIS experience. This is the greatest love song ever written. RIP FM
He has everything : talent to perform, showmanship, passion, amazing amazing voice, great song writing skills, sings from his heart and soul, great pianist, charisma, looks, interesting life, great sense of humor. Most of the musicians have one or combination of these. He is the perfect package !!
All 4 of them. Queen came out of nowhere and will stay thru eternity. I'm privileged to have been alive through out this musical era.,.. I did miss seeing them live... Time machine? Brian?❗💛
such raw emotion of longing sang and composed by the most beautiful and talented man who certainly was given a amazing gift to share with humanity.... we miss him...this song always makes me cry. R.I.P dear Freddie.
It's also a song that in live it would be easier for him to do in falsetto because it's just him and the piano This is the best live performance of any Queen song He sings it with so much heart and soul... He was just spectacular
This is the vocal sound I love. His soft, high vocals. The louder yelling stuff he did later because the cigs lowered his range. :( But in 74, 75, 76, 77... he was doing amazing stuff. 1980 they had a good album with The Game. Then his voice came back right b4 he died. He had a better range then than ever before.
Very true. Even while dying he still had his amazing range. An example is 'Don't Try So Hard'. Freddie always had this huge range, its just that things evolved the bigger Queen became. Venues got bigger & bigger so Freddie had to adapt and use his voice differently. He had excellent falsetto & vibrato, tone, pitch. Could do soft pitches & then go strong, powerful, like a beast. It's unbelievable that he still had his voice considering how much they constantly toured. I would kill to have his voice if I were male.
Yvette Campos Yeah, the touring takes a toll on a singer over time. Then he stopped trying for all the high notes and I guess (my theory) is he was just struggling too hard to hit them cleanly and didn't want his voice to crack or sound bad so he just opted to hit a lower note. But he smoked also and that activity LOWERS the pitch range of the voice. That is a fact. All the baritone and bass voice over guys of the 50s, 60s.. smokers. The granddaddy of movie trailer voice overs, Don LaFontaine.... smoker. It lowers the voice and gives it more rasp. That's just not what I want in my Freddie Mercury!!! I want the early Freddie. The clean and clear Freddie. At least he's there in the recordings.
***** No one is immune to how the world works. IF he smoked, then he must have smoked 2 or 3 cigs a day instead of a whole pack OR his range might have been even higher had he not smoked. Smoking lowers the range of a human voice and makes it more resonant/raspy. Don LaFontaine smoked. Almost everyone in the 50s/60s smoked. Go listen to that era and all the men sound like radio announcers. I do voice over for a living and DON'T smoke. Never have. So I struggle mightily trying to do the really raspy movie trailer thing even though my pitch is low enough, the resonance isn't there. Smoking would achieve it but I refuse to kill myself to do that. My theory is that smoking keeps phlegm on the vocal cords which weighs them down some and therefore they vibrate more slowly and the rasp is just another side effect. Haven't you heard women who sounded like men? smoking.
***** How many cigs a day did he smoke in 1959? I'm not sure we can know enough about his smoking habits to say oh, he was immune to that. I claim no one is. And the more you smoke, the more your voice quality will change. He had a high voice to begin with. Freddy smoked but when he QUIT smoking near the end due to AIDS, his voice got... wait for it... higher and clearer.
How is it possible for a straight woman to ache and cry and love the whole man that was Freddie Mercury....even decades after his death? He truly was the sexiest, most talented singer, performer, composer, showman, frontman that ever graced this planet. I could and do sometimes watch him for hours on end wishing that I had been blessed with the opportunity to meet him and also to have witnessed his greatness in person. God definitely blessed him with all of his gifts and I know Freddie is singing in Heaven which has to be a much sweeter place with him there. RIP Sweet Freddie! You are loved and missed by the masses❤️

I wonder if Brian, Roger and John, while offstage just stopped in their tracks and said..."Holy Shit" He's an absolute musical genius. Had they heard this one before? This specific video has absolutely broken me to tears. Even though the others are also musical geniuses in their own right. Freddie is just scary good. A true gift from God. All my love to the Queen fans around the world!
At that time, I'm not sure that Brian and Roger knew just what they had in Freddie. I believe it was years later, after Freddie's passing that Roger said something along the lines of "at the time we never really knew just how good he (Fred) was". Or something like that. The band was always "at odds" musically between Freddie and Brian driving the songs, and it was a brilliant chemistry that brought out the best in both of them, IMHO. This is why bands become world beaters, like Queen. But I digress. I would guess that John absolutely understood and recognized Freddie's brilliance from early on. John was very close with Freddie, and Freddie nurtured John's songwriting and contributions which helped take Queen to even greater heights. After all, it was John, who said after Fred's passing, what's the point of carrying on with Queen without Freddie.
@@cobbervin7563 They were all extraordinarily talented and Brian and Roger have said it wasn't until after he died that they realised how special he was.
Truth told. The silence in this song. This song is something that conveys his soul, his body may be gone but he is here inside this sound. Surreal music.
The way he sings "I would give up all my life" in this performance just punctuates how deeply he is feeling those lyrics.... like they're from deep in his soul
robsreality the piano tone freddie had as well just unreal.... their sound people through the years with the sound and talent they had is just absolutely perfect.
The Sage : oh but it was real. All real. It was a phenomenon called Freddie Mercury. A phenomenon one will never experience again. He was one of a kind.
The light on him, the darkness around him, the song and the way he sings it make it all so ethereal. It's like he's just singing in the middle of space.
Obsessed with this song. Hauntingly beautiful and it reaches deep into your soul. Freddie was just on another level. ❤️ I think the people in the audience chatting away didn’t realize the gift they were given at that moment!!
💟 Freddie is a big romantic, pure soul... Incredibly touching composition... such delicate feeling, a quiet conversation one-on-one with everyone and with yourself... the melody of the heartfelt confession... ❤
alina baykalova he was a very sweet and funny guy. He was far too generous and people used him and took advantage of him. I think that’s when Mary would step up and tell people to leave. He was a strong man but he had his weaker, sensitive, & soft side, and people would take advantage of it.
@@montereyharris1277 agreed. I have so many mixed feelings about it...saddness, pissed off, helplessness and ultimately gratefulness to Mary. After all, I was only 11 and in Brooklyn NY in his glory days so what could i possibly do to help him. I hope he knows he is sorely missed yet lives on right here for all of us to continue relishing in his brilliance. Thank the God Lord for youtube.
@Jarred Knox Sometimes the rawness and emotion of performing live is more moving than the technical perfection of a studio recording. Sometimes. Certainly here.
@@barbaraladouceur6305 Well, I always thought that Queen was founded in 1970. So it would be 51 years. When Freddie arrived, the band was still called "Smile", but a few months later, during 1970, they changed the name to Queen. In any case, they are one of the best rock bands of the 70s and 80s. :)
@@barbaraladouceur6305 Yeah, right. I was referring to when the band was renamed "Queen", but it is true that John had not yet arrived. If we refer to Queen as a group, we always have to name the 4: Freddie, Brian, Roger and John :)
If aliens invaded Earth and offered us one single chance to defend our self-destructive species against termination we should play to them Freddie's voice and be saved.
How gracious Freddie is, instead of snapping at chatterers, he opts to tell the crowd, "You gotta listen to this one." I so wish MTV had been around when Queen got its start in the 70s. I could have seen this beautiful man perform much earlier in my life. What a beautiful creation he was. Not only talented, but truly beautiful to behold. Oh, and those eyes!!! How he sings this version, with such innocence, yet so much passion. Freddie indeed sang like an angel. God blessed you with a beautiful voice, Freddie. Sing on for eternity, beautiful man!
Freddie writes and sings the most beautiful love songs I've ever heard and I'm 74 years old! That's a lot of love songs that I've heard and I can't stop listening to Freddie. I only discovered Queen about 2 months ago. Thank you all who have posted. I would have never heard such wonderful music!
Welcome Queenie. Glad you discovered the band and Freddie’s unbelievable artistry. Keep listening to all the hidden gems, not just the popular songs. They did it all. Enjoy.

LYRICS Look into my eyes and you'll see I'm the only one You've captured my love Stolen my heart Changed my life Every time you make a move You destroy my mind And the way you touch I lose control and shiver deep inside You take my breath away You can reduce me to tears With a single sigh Every breath that you take Any sound that you make Is a whisper in my ear I could give up all my life for just one kiss I would surely die If you dismiss me from your love You take my breath away So please don't go Don't leave me here all by myself I get ever so lonely from time to time I will find you Anywhere you go, I'll be right behind you Right until the ends of the Earth I'll get no sleep till I find you to Tell you when I've found you - I love you

George Michael❤ послушайте его посвящение Господу, Jesus for a child❤ И конечно, на концерте памяти Фредди, где я имел Счастье быть, George спел Somebody to love❤ Это был шок❤
such a passionate, almost child like innocence about Freddie... so heartbreaking may he rest in eternal peace in the arms of Angels.. I would have done anything for him I love you so
