That weakness only applies to this particular configuration of Nebula-class ship and only when they are using that high-energy sensor array. The domed pod above the saucer is an interchangeable module. If you watch episodes with other Nebula-class ships, you might notice different pods. I believe there are at least 3 common types, sensor, science, and tactical. I'd guess that this particular pod functions a bit like a modern AWACS suite. If my guess is right, such a ship would rarely operate alone during war time. Naturally the tactical pod would contain extra weapons, particularly torpedo launchers and magazines. And the science pod would likely house additional science labs and specialized equipment.

Its a cruiser weakness Not a galaxy class weakness XD And the shields allowing a transport, is different then bypassing the defensive capability of the shield. The enterprise could have disabled Maxwells shield, but it leaves it exposed. And the crew shouldnt die cuz of the act of the captain

You can store someone's pattern into the pattern buffer. Wait for the right moment then teleport the pattern to materialize where you need it. Althought 50th of a second does seem a really short time to transmit an entire pattern stream...

you assume that Cardassians have the ability to replace (edit: replicate) what he said ..... I doubt they had THREE officers in their fleet at the time that would even know what TF he was talking about. and he DID it from the transporter room, where the Cardassian WAS NOT.

and truthfully, what he said wasn't even all that specific on HOW Miles was gonna do what he did. he just told his CO and XO enough to let them know HE knew a way in. Miles ain't drunk ..... lol

it's ok, that one vulnerability was just for this one episode.

@@dhinton1 Yes, the Cardassian in the turbolift even told him that their transporters weren't as efficient as the Federation transporters.

He didn't serve on the Phoenix, he served on the Rutledge, a New Orleans class frigate.

I'd say that's information specific to the Nebula Class Starships, but O'Brien didn't serve on the Phoenix, he'd served with Captain Maxwell on The USS Rutledge

We could headcanonize that is was a bogus explanation to avoid giving useful info to the Cardassian. The gist was "I can do it" and the "trust me" could be interpreted as "don't fixate on the 'how' I explained".

What I liked about this episode is they show you the distance between the ships when firing - even though you don't get to see the actual ships. The distance between the ships during the Dominion War should have been similar instead of so close together, except for the Jem He'dar which were suicide ships.

Ehh, it was just a mashup of existing model parts because they had no budget for ships. I thought it was funny but not in a haha way. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@nickcolbert9615 wrong. They had the budget but they wanted to add several new ship models for the 'graveyard' scene at Wolf 359 in Season 4 opener 'Best of Both Worlds Part 2'. They didn't have a huge amount of time so ended up using AMT model kits of the Enterprise-D for the Nebula and other kits as well as those for the other classes (Freedom, Niagara, Springfield etc). It was then upgraded to an official model for 'The Wounded'.

You could hear his cold iwhen he spoke at different times during the episode.

Only that model of nebula class ship running that specific sensor array pod module. There are three types of module tactical, scientific and sensor array. They just got lucky

I imagine there is no way to make fine adjustments when going FTL, like if you wanted to dodge a swarm of asteroids for example. Like riding a motorbike, you're incapable of turning the wheel at high speed because if you try you'll be thrown off and killed but you can lean to turn safely.

@@Voltaic_Fire I think their saying that if you just simply turn the ship and accelerate sideways that the space warping that was made for moving forward will tear your ship apart on the atomic level....but if you "lean" sideways (IE: learn how to adjust the warp fields structure on the fly as needed) you CAN change the shape to adjust for your turning as you do so. so maybe since voyager was launched star fleet updated their warp drive parameters/design/etc so that those adjustments cna be made....man, I bet that would have been useful for voyager right?

They were able to do that because the plot required big, epic space battles. Those don't really look impressive when every ship has tough, functioning shields.

Picard says he was right at the end of the episode. That doesn't justify going rogue and massacring ship after ship, violating treaties you have sworn to uphold and giving a rival casus belli based on gut dislike. Picard's warning did more to cow the Cardasians than maxwells's attacks did.

That's why in the navy nobody opens a door quickly. They make a lot of noise and announce their arrival so that everyone has a chance to pull their pants up and wipe their mouths before you enter.

@@toomanyaccounts Yeah, it sounds detailed to us, but there's probably a whole lot of details that were understood between the Star Fleet officers. Assuming this is all necessary info to be communicated in this situation, what probably happened was that when the assignment to go after the Phoenix was sent O'Brien was sent the details of the ship's sensors and shields in case boarding was necessary while the captain only received the broad strokes necessary for him to focus on preventing a war. In this scene, the only thing he revealed to the Cardassians along with the captain was, "I've got a narrow window to get in, but it's doable. You might have to stall them for a couple minutes."

For all we know, different ship classes might have slightly different shields depending on when they were built, their role, and their importance.

Starfleet sent Picard because the federation couldn't afford to go to war.

Just goes to show, overthinking your actions is pointless. For every 'right step' that leads towards good times, it could also lead to horrifying results. You never know, but you still take that step.

The original special effects are a little bit choppy, and it becomes more apparent when the flyby is sped up, but I do remember it being smoother than in this video. I'm inclined to suspect transcoding losses or RU-vid degradation.

Considering how long it took Picard to tell them to go to warp 9, they had lightyears head start.

@@Dowlphin That's only true when using the Modified Cochraine Unit (MCU) warp scale. The Original Cochraine Unit (OCU) scale wasn't capped at 10. In the MCU scale which is the one which is used in TNG, warp 9.1 is only 4% faster than warp 9.0.

he was an enlisted ie non comm. his lt is honorary to signify he is in charge of a particular area. this is why Worf while not being a lt at the time was able to relieve O'brien from duty in one episode. It means that every five minutes, the shields are down for 1/50th of a second. That means the ship is vulnerable only 1/15,000 of the time.
