The reason why Latium was losing food and not producing much of it was because it was Winter, so the provinces that produce food have reduced output.

You would think Laith would have learnt his lesson after like 10 videos of Imperator Rome where his people starved to death (I'm not kidding, it happened almost every video) but I think its funny, so I wont do anything about this. Local tunisian man feeds Rome tons of grain, millions must starve. 😆 Would be fun for a part two, where you conquer Gaul and Greece for example. But make sure not to lose your entire navy to storms, the romans did this at one point.

In case you are interested there is a particular event Between Etruria and Rome. In Etruria there is a great family made by the relatives of Tarquinius, the last exiled King of Rome. If Rome lose it's capital province to Etruria and let it form "Tuscia" there is an event for Rome to put back a Tarquinius on the throne and became a monarchy again.

With tributaries, if you have high relations after a certain amount of time they will ask to become your client state, then you can diplo annex them. Though in Italia it's probably just easier to release and conquer them directly.

When the pops are starving they don't die off right away, they initially just migrate to your other provinces that do have food. It equalizes your population across your country instead of clumping them all in megacities.

Laith you can turn off the seasonal food mechanics in the settings. It's an annoying feature, which makes it so food storage has a proper purpose. However it's a pain in the ass to deal with early game without buildings. So if you don't want to deal with it you can turn it off. You'll still need to import quite a bit of grain to Latium but normally it wont take that much

It was pretty solid actually. The fanbase review bombed it. Especially by the time they stopped supporting it the game was in a really solid place, but nerds love killing something for it not being exactly what they wanted. Invictus has been so popular PDX actually did release a patch recently.
