It's over... YOU'VE BEEN FRAMED has finally been CANCELLED after over 33 YEARS on the airwaves! The famous programme looking at funny videos has finally bitten the dust, but why now? Has it become too expensive? Are not enough people watching? Should this have happened 5, 10, even 15 years ago? We discuss all of that in today's video!

YBF was my childhood. I remember my dad used to film me and my family and any time we’d do anything silly he’d yell “WHERES MY 250 QUID?!” In reference to this show. I loved this show bcs it would sit at tea time and laughing at people made us forget we were broke :’)

I’m quite sad that YBF is cancelled, though it’s not too surprising considering that ITV weren’t very clear about when new episodes would air, as well as the rise in social media.

That is a trend for most shows, channels have been actively trying to blur the difference between new episodes and repeats so that viewers still watch the cheaper to broadcast repeats.

@@jonny5alive123 Yeah, my Mum gets irritated when episodes of The Chase & Tipping Point are just a repeat. Also, with YBF in particular, I do wish they would also repeat episodes from when Jeremy, Lisa & Jonathan presented. I don't know why it's only the more recent series. Is it because they're too old? I remember Art Attack repeats having the same problem.

@@BeefyWaltoon Are most of those 90s/early 00s shows going to look great on modern HD TVs? If all the recordings are in low definition (and if they even kept them) I doubt anyone is going to want to go through the expense of upping the resolution of old You've Been Framed episodes.

I do remember you`ve been framed being a massive show when i was kid. The wonky house was the best set. Also £250 in 1990 is about £545 in todays money adjusted for inflation.

Despite having his critics I think it was Harry Hill and his commentary that has helped YBF struggle on much longer than it should have. In our family (my grandparents adored HH) we would watch to hear what he'd come away with.

YBF was one of my childhood programmes growing up in the 90s along with others like Gladiators and Robot Wars. Hearing it getting cancelled is sad but it had a good run, and it’ll be leaving behind a legacy for being one of the tv shows that started the trend for funny home videos, even before social media itself became mainstream.

I’m in the “I’m surprised it’s taken up until now to be cancelled” group. Also, may be worth mentioning that in the Jeremy Beadle heyday each episode would finish with an audience vote on which video was the funniest, and that contributor would receive an additional £1,000. Then at the end of each season some of these would be put to another audience vote with the winner receiving £5,000.

I'm old enough to remember You've Been Framed from the very start, and it was a true innovation in British TV. Home video was barely even a thing, in 1990. They got absolutely the right person to front the show. Jeremy Beadle was THE name in putting Joe public in the spotlight for fun. You knew that when Beadle was about, laughs were to be had involving the public. So he was a natural lead into this otherwise new and unfamiliar format. The format stagnated after Beadle, but it was still the only thing of its kind. Once the internet became a thing in everyone's lives, it did make YBF a relic of the past. But the curious fact remains, it's still the leader of its kind on TV. Yes, its appeal has dwindled dramatically because of fail videos online. But you have to remember that every aspect of TV is now rivalled by online content. I think that the situation today is that YBF is not a big deal, and its cancellation won't really be mourned that greatly. But I do think it still has value in it, even if that value isn't as great as it was at its height. It's reliable passive TV, which will do just fine when flicking channels and stumbling upon it.

I used to love watching You've Been Framed. It was great Saturday night telly, but nowadays I would have to agree that it's a product of it's time. As you've said, people are now going to sites like RU-vid for similar content, and they can watch them whenever they want and not just on Saturday nights (plus: some people work on Satuday nights). And the same thing can be said about Tarrant on TV, which had been axed many years ago (I would guess about 2009-ish? I'm not sure). I can remember they featured the controversial German TV commercial for an energy drink that had a screamer. Now that commercial's gone viral all over RU-vid.

I'm sad that YBF has been axed. Having said that it was never quite the same after Jeremy Beadle was sacked from the show. Harry Hill started off great but his style wore a bit thin, there's even at least 2 standard episodes where he sounds very bored. But all in all a fun show and it had a great run.

Im a big fan of Harry Hill’s early work, especially his standup. Hes great because his style is very clean and appropriate for kids (alright some of Burp was a little riskay) but the premise of his stand up being a dig at observation comedy with hidden digs at deeper topics is post-modern and satirical enough to get an audience of adults too. I feel his style became watered down over time, I love silliness for the sake of silliness but that became sort of his whole thing as he chased solely the kids audience. Still, respect to him for getting the bag. YBF getting axed is strange, like its always been a relic of the pre-internet but i thought it wouldve been so cheap to produce itd go on indefinitely

You've Been Framed was great when it first began and Jeremy Beadle was hosting it because back then it was a new concept, but it has got a bit samey in recent years and now that we have things like RU-vid, Facebook and Tiktok which are full of those sort of video's anyway it does beg the question who needs You've Been Framed these days? So it sort of makes sense for me really.🙂

Yank here, and we have "America's Funniest Home Videos," and it is remarkably still on the air on ABC, despite the RU-vid era. It has been running just as long as "You've Been Framed," originally presented by the much missed comedian, the late Bob Saget. Both it and "You've Been Framed" were based on the 1986 Japanese TV show "Fun TV with Kato-chan and Ken-chan."

Even though You’ve Been Framed was such a great video clips show from ITV. But I’ve noticed that it’s now been removed from ITV 2’s Schedule alltogether. Turns out it’s on This Sunday on ITV at the time of this comment for a re-run. Shame it’s cancelled now, though I also realised that Harry Hill is the longest running host for the show as he’s hosted 16 Seasons of You’ve Been Framed from Season 16 in 2004 to the last season, which would’ve been Season 31 that ended in August 2022

I really do still love this show. Never would I think "oh, YBF's on, must watch that!", but .. any time I find myself accidentally watching it, it rarely gets switched off! It's odd how RU-vid/TikTok etc once were the replacement for this, but ... I dunno. They're all long form, now. Little funny 5 second clips on either platform rarely ever find an audience, now.

I had no idea this show was still on, either. I remember it from it's inception back in 1990 when Jeremy Beadle was the host. I even remember vaguely watching it on the odd occasion when Lisa Riley hosted it. I didn't know Harry Hill took over, or if I did, I probably got it mixed up with his, 'TV Burp', show. Nevertheless, it's not something I've watched for years. Certainly not like I would have done in it's early days, even going out of my way to record it on VHS! Yes, that long ago!

Do these bastards even know what they're doing anymore? You've Been Framed! is the sort of show we NEED on our screens the most! I have no hope for that Fawlty Towers reboot as I hear it won't have physical comedy! It is WAY past time the major broadcasters have a rethink of what they're all doing! The BBC need to keep CBBC on TV and pick up a new comedy series or two. Rebooting something like Robot Wars or Fawlty Towers is a sign of desperation. ITV are fools for axing You've Been Framed! and they've not done much with their kid's offerings in recent years, Citv is currently the ONLY ITV channel without an HD feed! Channel 4 seem mostly okay but with CBBC closing in 2025, Channel 4 should consider filling the void by getting back into the kids TV space! I'd be happy even with just reruns of Fourways Farm! If it'll make you feel any better, the Australian You've Been Framed! equivalent, Australia's Funniest Home Video Show, once had a one-off adult special, Australia's Naughtiest Home Videos!

I'm sad about this, used to love this show as a kid wetting myself at some of the stupid things people would do whether on purpose on accident. First memory i have of it is someone vomiting up red wine at a party. This was like 04, 05. Haven't watched it in years other than a few episodes a year, honestly it was probably timeas it had been on for so long and the formats kinda worn out but no less sad.😔

I think i must have watched every episode over the years, i love it and it's a shame they are axing it but i haven't seen a new episode for a long time and after watching the repeats you know what's coming, another iconic show killed by the internet!, i like Harry Hill, i've seen nearly everything he's done and he always makes me laugh but i like silly humour and he is great at doing it.

I have to say I am surprised the decision to cancel was in 2023, with social media leaving funny home videos available to watch any time, Hell, You've Been Framed even took some videos from RU-vid and so on to air (I bet they didn't get their £250 either) Is a shame, but the time is right.

I watched YBF from the time it first aired. It was at its best when Jeremy Beadle hosted. Lisa Riley and Jonathan Wilkes were forgettable as hosts. But Harry Hill was better as a host. But the clips in later years were looking more and more staged, and it wasn't as naturally funny as it was in its heyday. Was it surprising that YBF was cancelled? No, it had run it's course. Will it be missed? By a lot of people, I'm sure, but not by me so much

I preferd you've been framed with an onscreen presenter and a studio audience which is how it started and should've stayed rather than just a voice over it just didn't feel the Same with hearing just harry hill and not seeing him. But yeah this cancellation probably should've happened long ago.
