Bobby passed away in 2003 a few months after they were inducted into the ROCK and ROLL HALL OF FAME. I'M glad he got to live for that. BILL MELODY still sings and performs today.Amazing isn't it.
Love your reaction/commentary! You're smart AND emotional, so you give us an intelligent, insightful, and all around fabulous experience. I was 14 when the Righteous Brothers came on the scene, and I'm still crushing on them and their music! Way to go!
The best thing about them performing together is not only do they always capitalize on Bobby's amazing tenor and Bill's bass baritone voices...but they also overlap their vocal ranges beautifully when they harmonize in the vocal mid-ranges :-) Bill's 'raspiness' and Bobby's 'trill' whenever they did so was always incredible!
These two were genius when it came to arranging a song. They always made sure when they sang together that they each had strong parts. They didn't try to outdo each other. They connected like no other artists that I know of. In this song, in true Bobby Hatfield style, at the beginning of the song Bobby is so relaxed that he looks bored. I love it! He has his one leg up, his elbow resting on his knee, and his head resting on his hand. I have watched dozens of reactions to this song and no reactor has mentioned this. That's funny to me. I like your style of reacting; you notice things that other reactors miss. I'm happy that you mentioned how Bobby was sitting back. You're the only one so far.
To hear a man dissect a song like this gives me hope that a man can have emotions that women distinctively have. Not always the case in my experience. I enjoy your comments and content. Thank you.
That was great. I have the 1965 Unchained Melody album(now on dvd). I made the mistake of buying the 1975 version. I’m 76 years old and enjoyed them then and now! Your comments were right on. Thanks
I LOVE your reaction!! Kindred spirit. It frustrates me to listen to these masterpieces and have responses like .. " that's nice" argh. Their music leaves me speechless. I also agree about the backup music leading the movement of the song Soo well.
I wish everyone could react to a song as well as you do. I agree with every one of your comments. Rumor has it that this was the most requested song in the 20th Century!
You know, part of their thing is simply SKILL. No auto-tune. They nail the notes, keep the power, no slack. These days, too often people want insta-fame, and they rely on tech to overcome their lack of training. (I remember once someone asked Sting what he thought about auto-tune, and he said 'They should just fucking learn how to sing...' Interestingly, he went back and got some real vocal training a few years ago, so he could master the craft and extend his career. Props to him for that.)
Just love it when the guys are rocking out at the end with the back and forth. As to who do you like more, they are just two halves of the whole. No one could beg like Bill, but Bobby was just so adorable. Try some of their early stuff, Justine, and Little Latin Lupe Lu. Also that angelic choir behind them ... perfection. I love your way of dissecting their performances, btw.
Their ranges are enough apart that if you wanted to electronically separate the two vocals out of the stereo mix, you probably could nowadays. I don't know if this is true or not, but I was talking to one of Spector's former session guys last year and he said the instruments were not really multi-tracked, but multiple instruments all playing at the same time, say like maybe 3 basses each in their own isolation room, so Spector could get the special qualities of each instrument and blend them. Sounds like an expensive way to get a wall of sound when you consider that is an orchestra probably playing!! I also don't get the feeling these guys are sloppy in their trills like so many singers nowadays that have the attitude, "hey, as long as I start and end up on the right notes, who is gonna dis the in betweens!"
Another great review/analysis of the Righteous Brothers. Only just discovered your channel, and this is only the second video I've watched. Love your work already bro.
@@jerrybutler8917 Wow 😲!! But the Beatles had hits after hits. The only song I thought that beat any of their hits was Bohemian Rhapsody. Thank you for sharing this fact with me. I love this song the righteous Brothers sang but to me Unchained Melodies is their greatest hit.
At last someone old enough to know who they are (no offense Man 😂) and to realize they were 24 or so when they sang it. This song has been called the most erotic duet ever sung by two men. Lol.😎 Have you ever heard what Bobby asked Spector what he was supposed to do while Bill sang most of the song? Spector replied Go to the f**king bank. Your Reaction is on point.
Patricia, that little anecdote about Spector made me seriously LOL. That sounds exactly like something he would say, and it looked like Bobby was basically sitting down at the bank. Ha! Thx!
Well now, Patricia, you have successfully rendered me speechless, and that is a difficult thing to do. 😉 Thank you and I look forward to hearing a lot more from you in the months and years ahead.
You mentioned Bill having a delivery like the words being shot from a cannon, I just found this vid of a show they did, watch the second song in Soul and Inspiration. Oh my, I laughed so much! The guys had a great sense of humour. If you watch it you'll see what I mean. Sorry not able to paste the link
I have to check your back catalog, but you should totally do a Ronettes vid. Spector was an ass and a murderer, but he definitely had an ear. You could a Wall Of Sound series. Good work, man. I appreciate your insight and your take.
Another spot on analysis dXX.The live versions of this song. Unchained Melody and Soul And Inspiration (IMHO) are just flat out better versions than their studio releases. Whether it is their better familiarity of the material, or the freedom to break the controlled studio confines. Maybe it's the feeding off an audience. The song treatments receive brilliant performances from the backing bands musicians and singers . For the time, the recordings are pretty exceptional. All and all this may be pop musics high water mark. With the possible exception of Good Vibrations in 1966. RNB
FYI, if you haven't reviewed Soul And Inspiration. Best to choose the live black and white version. Visual clarity is a bit rough, but the vocal performance (particularly Mr Medley) is great. RNB
Hi DAX - love this song (raspy kick in) and video (a lot of reactions to this video)- it’s funny watching young reactors seeing this video and song for the first time. Now react to AC/DC Highway To Hell live at the River Plate- Thx from Downunder
It’s a live recording that’s been over-dubbed with the studio version. If you search for the version on ‘Shindig’ you can hear it ‘live’ with the girls screaming in the background. Also slight differences in the delivery. Great to listen to though🙂
