Jokes aside, this is a really creative way to talk about both movies. I’m jealous of this idea lol

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought *You Were Never Really Here* was a more sophisticated version of *Joker.*

Great, now you're gonna make me watch You Were Never Really Here in order for me to fully understand what you're even trying say with a video that I thought was simply about the we live in a society movie

Fam, I loved You Were Neve Really Here but I think you've given me an even larger appreciation for the Directorial choices made in that Film. This has to be one of the most creative critiques of ANTHING I've seen, and the joke isn't just a gimmick - it actually makes the comparison closer and pierces through a lot of potential filler that comes with a traditional side-by-side piece. Honestly I've been really enjoying your content, but this straight up impressed me. The bit where it all came together for me is how you framed Joe's thought of suicide with the "what do you get quote", that was a great choice. There was actual craft to the visuals pairing up with the writing and well.... that's good Filmmaking in general not just Video Essaying. I could go on all day so I'll just say - hats off to ya' brudda, you absolutely killed this one!

Those of us who suffer from depression or trauma can feel isolated, and that might feel like pressure, pressure to be happy or else you run the risk not belonging..

This is one of the best RU-vid videos I have ever seen. Every single time you said 'the Joker' instead of the movies actual title I was dumb-founded, even when I already understood what was going on from the beginning. This video deserves more views. I would show it in college classes.

The relationship with the young girl reminds me of the relationship in Leon: The professional, as well as the heaviness a person feels where young life can make it less hard.

I remember the first time I watched You Were Never Really Here. During the whole movie, I was enjoying it, but I also felt in a way, very disturbed. Then that night, when I slept, I dreamt I was in Joe’s place. But every time I tried rescuing someone, I failed, and they ended up dead. I felt horrible, defeated, useless, broken. I never dream about movies, but it happened this time, and this was one of my worst nightmares. If not, the worst.

You Were Never Really Here is one of my favorite films of all time and I need more people to start watching it.

Ahhh, yes, very clever! And of course another great essay. I remember having mixed feelings about YWNRH, really liking most of it, but something of it falling flat for me. But this essay has me wanting to revisit and I am sure appreciate it that much more. Thanks!

I didn't know what to make of You Were Never Really Here when I first saw it, but on my second viewing I appreciated it so much more. It's a very understated haunting film. And while I did really enjoy Joker, I feel like this movie should have gotten more love and recognition.

Had this tab open for days and postponed viewing it several times for no matter what reason. Now I was tidying up my tabs and about to close it unseen, but instead took the time. I'm glad I did, when it ended all I could say was how damn well put together this is. Thank you for creating content of this quality and thought!

I really genuinely liked Joker, but when I saw all those Oscar nominations it got, something didn't sit right with me. Then I remembered that You Were Never Really Here was released a year ago and didn't get nominated for a single Oscar. In a year where Black Panther was nominated for Best Picture.

Great video. You Were Never Really Here is a film that deserves more attention.

I liked YWNRH a lot. It does feel like a Joker movie after casting away all the comic book associations. And when I saw Joker something felt off. Like it couldn't make up it's mind rather it wanted to be realistic or more like a comic book. You've got these gritty scenes but then also the stylized elements. It's not a bad movie but I expected a lot more. If it weren't for Phoenix the movie woudn't be nearly as good I think. This is a great essay. Very well done!

I think in the "The Joker" 2019 wasn't just about the broken individual but also a broken society, how you can identify in some extend with his craziness, how the systematic/institutionalized violence and impunity can let us completely empty and hopeless, about how much is too much. When a society can only relate with a crazy no truly political stranger and make him a "symbol" of the emptiness of not knowing how to fix our world. Maybe.
