This is a good video that can explain how dynamic breaking on a locomotive works Because when the middle and top motor were Hooked up they were acting as generators And were adding resistance to the rotation, which is how a locomotive actually slows down down by turning the traction motors into generators

Many EV's have regenerative braking to charge their batteries. But in a locomotive theres no batteries to charge so that energy gets converted into heat in a giant resistance strip, much like your toaster oven.

The middle and top motors are working as a generator but these motors are not slowing down the turning motor until there is no load connected to the middle and top motor because according to Faraday's law it will oppose the motion when there is a current flowing in the armature winding and you can clearly see that terminals are open for middle and top motor

Yeah. that's what I was thinking. The gearing down would cause the motors, which want to be turning at the same speeds, to drag down the output. They would need to be geared in a 1:1 ratio to maintain RPM and increase HP.

Not quite, because the motors from the middle are working under stress due to the fact that the first line are rotating the middle line with a different ratio (reduce ratio) BUT the middle line are power the same as the first and they are trying to output the same as first. Therefore the middle line are trying to rotate as the first because the voltage but they are push down because the ratio of the first.

What happen if you just remove the 3 front motor and replace it only with the gears? The magnetic friction from the 3 unused motor will be gone. Your RPM will increase.

This configuration is made for torque, not rpm. In free running mode, no load on the output shaft, the slower motor ( they are all a little bit different ) becomes a resistance for the faster moving motors. Once a load is applied, they even out the load over all 6 electric motors.

They would be better off just ringing a great reduction. And boot through a magnetic field that is eating away at the power. It would have been more rise to run a positive ratio into another then taking power into another motor

yes that's why he doesn't show the rpm result for the single motor with no load on other shaft at 6:04, I guess it's might close or even better rpm to all motor joined but the benefit for joining motor as you said it got more torque for sure.

since all the motors are parallelly connected, the motors that spin faster would have a back-emf greater than the ones that spin slower. the faster motor then tries to feed power into the slower motor, this is the majority of where the power is lost. the motors must be geared in a 1:1 ratio so all the back-emf of the motors are equal and no motor is trying to power the other motor. its also the main reason why the single motor is slower, but when the three faster spinning motor is disconnected it spins faster. because the three slower spinning motor is gearing up towards the faster one, and because the faster motors are now disconnected no back-emf is stealing power.

@@pabloleonardocaffa1972 torque es necesario por ejemplo para hacer una batidora, vehículo terrestre o un submarino, si tienes poco torque el empuje es pobre, tiene poca fuerza contra la resistencia. Igualmente el experimento que muestra el vídeo es una tontería porque el torque que consigue es gracias al engranaje y no a los motores extra que añade, con un único motor y engranajes puedes conseguir más torque de la misma forma que funciona un caja de transmisión y además consigues una aceleración más suave.

Motors need to spin at a certain speed to generate back emf and limit the input current. By slowing some motors down it will cause those to draw more current than they should

All six motors are being fed the same voltage, but they're not all pulling the same current or doing the same work. In fact, when they're all hooked up, the frontmost motor is doing nearly all of the work. When all motors are connected, the three in the rear turn the fastest, because the other three motors are working to drive them faster than their no-load speed via the gear trains. So the rear motors pull very little (or perhaps no) current, due to increased counter-emf. The front motors are being slowed down by having to overdrive the rear motors, and so they are pulling more current and doing more work, with the frontmost motor being the most heavily-loaded. Disconnect the frontmost motor and now it becomes a light magnetic load for the other motors, but the entire assembly speeds up because now most of the work is being shared by the two motors in the middle, rather than a single motor doing all the heavy lifting. Disconnect the middle motors as well, and now the work is shared by the three back motors, and the speed increases again. EDIT: I have been shown to be incorrect about one thing: The single motor at the front is wired incorrectly, so it is actually fighting the other motors. Thanks to @Marek Sýkora for pointing this out to me.

You're wrong. Although each motor is different and uses a different current, the momentum of the force that forces the rotor in the motor to move faster is the same as if the motor were operating independently. And it helps the whole group with the workload. You can see them as six rotors on one axis. Each of them adds its momentum to a common axis. Thus, the six motors provide six times more momentum, allowing them to turn much faster with the same load.

@@mareksykora779 you can’t think of it that way because of the gearing involved. imagine trying to help someone push up something with a first class lever. You are on the same side as someone else, and you can both push at the same strength (let’s say 100 N) trying to lift something up (both of your person’s hands are handcuffed to the lever, comparison sake since that is how gears work). If you try pushing up a meter from the fulcrum, meanwhile someone else is pushing up 3 meters away from the fulcrum at the same force as you, you are relatively exerting much less force and essentially become a weight because relativisticly your force is much less and so you are adding to what the one with a better mechanical advantage has to lift.

​@@snaeshaads8203 No. You see it wrong. At the moment somebody else with much bigger force pushes, then you have immediatelly less load and can run faster to "catch up". You see it wrong because you think that the speed of all is constant. But it is not. Everbody who at some moment got less load (because somebody else was faster), immediatelly speeds up because of no load. It is like a sledge pulled by a horse and a dog at the same time. They both can run very fast under no load. At first you let only the dog to pull the sledge. It will be very slow. Then you add a horse, which immediatelly takes all the load because of its speed and power. But the dog doesn't stay in back. Under zero load it immediatelly increases its spped and is faster then the horse pulling sledge so it also pushes his part and the sledge speeds up, because both horse and dog work with their power. A nice ballance regulation works there. Whenever somebody is slightly faster then he takes more load, which reduces his speed, and others get less load which helps them to "catch up the edge" and push more. And so on and so on. Autocontroling system. But what is important. The power unit in this case is not the whole electric motor. It si just the coils pushed by magnetic fields on the rotor which push to one common shaft made by all individual shafts of all motors connected by constant gearings. Also here the coil can "run" very fast without the load and "catch up" slower running motor shaft. But because of solid connection of the coil and the rotor the actual ballancig of speed and load can only be meassurred by meassuring a tension in the piece of metal connecting the coil with the shaft.

@@mareksykora779 I don't have the time to read so much, but if you try to push a motor faster than its maximum RPM while it is operating, the motor will start working as a generator and actually begin to resist the force you are exerting on it's system. Try pedaling faster when you are on an electric bicycle, it will show you intuitively what some of the people here are talking about.

реальный мартышкин труд. пособие как делать не надо. цель ролика, 90% времени занять внимание постройкой неизвестной хреномути а потом выдать за эффективный привод корабельного винта. один движок большей мощности при заданном токе и напряжении КПД имел гораздо больший.

The gear ratio makes it so that the first 5 motors are just slowing down the last motor.

I agree...in addition from 5:55 to 6:20, assuming he used the same voltage on both cases...wouldn't his so called engine produce more power (since 3 dc motors are connected in parallel with each other) compared to a single dc motor?...which made it turn the prop faster, considering the prop's weight and air resistance, compared to the single dc motor...am i right?...'cause, him, adding the 3 other dc motors doesn't really make sense to me

@@FlameKaiser_1 Not shure what you mean but my thinking is that the first 3 motors when they run at say 1000rpm the last motor would run at only about 250rpm. So if the last motor was to run at about 1000rpm the first 3 would have to run at about 4000rpm and that would cause more drag and just slow it down so it would be better to just run the first motor alone.

@@oliverknowles3229 what i mean was, assuming he used similar voltage, and each dc motor produced let's assume 10watts...wouldn't his engine produce 30watts since the motors are connected in parallel...and lets say the 10watts produced by a single dc motor wasn't enough to turn the prop fast considering it's weight and air resistance(basing on his setup)...haven't done an actual experiment so i'm just using my imagination, and i'm not sure if my analysis is correct

This is really a waste of resources. You could have have used multiple gears, instead. And any ways the motors you are using are just for connecting the 3 motors to the last one.

I'd love to see a dozen gears in conjunction varying from large 12 in decreasing 1 inch at a time finally turning against the very small gear and see what the rpm is.

Try putting power diodes between the layers of motors so the current generated can flow from the 1 motor and 2 motors to the 3 motors, be interesting to see what happens

As they are paralelly connected.. If the motors are more.. There will be more Back emf generated.. So the motors are slowing down.. So less speed and high torque.. When removing the motors one by one.. You will get less back emf so more speed and less torque.. That is y the rpm is increasing gradually when removing the motors. 😪

Nice gadget, caution for the mid two motors as they are not designed for this RPM and pre-mature wearing up may occur if exceeding the specifications. Do oil them on regular bases.

@@user-gp2ng3yy6k моторы не крутятся быстрее. Увеличивается только крутящий момент. Меня позабавила толщина шестерёнок и грёбаный термоклей с позиционированием на глаз. хотя к концу видео вроде проглядывалась адекватность.

@@amego2458 но каждый последующий ряд моторов тормозит предыдущий из-за того что передаточное число уменьшается. КПД крч падает. Шестерни в этом конкретном случае должны быть одного размера (одно количество зубов)
