You can always turn the car on and let it idle with the heater on full blast for a while to heat up the interior as well. Obviously it leaks out, but it's nice to pre-heat your area...or re-heat it if it gets too cold during the night. Can't do that in a tent.

I had my fill of snow in the Air Force in the mid 1970’s, while stationed on a mountain top radar site. My mantra since then is I don’t go where it snows, when it snows.

J my recommendation would be a diesel heater guys. I go car camping all the time with the heater and it keeps you toasty all night. It’s efficient too.
@TheFraziers
@TheFraziers 2 года назад
I completely forgot to mention the diesel heater! We've wanted to try one out for a while now but haven't gotten around to it yet. They definitely seem to work well in most reviews I've seen of them.
@campinamerica2469

@@TheFraziers they’re the best for efficiency. Usually in low heat on a 5kw heater, you’re pulling about 7w off the power station and probably run through 1/4 gallon of fuel all night. And the most important thing is it gives you a piece of mind about carbon monoxide. Lol.

Great list. I love that get out gear blanket. Also funny I have a video on that exact heater dropping this Thursday. I'd like to see how it works for you guys inside the car if thats how y'all are doing it. My GFC is very breathable.

We’re headed to Zion this weekend and we intend to try it out. It should be in the high 20s at night so it should be a good test.

Some other things of note: While cars aren't 100% air tight, making sure the weather stripping and door seals are in good condition will help keep the warmth in and the cold out. This is especially true with old/high mileage cars where the seals are hard or torn and don't seal properly anymore. I bought some bath towels from a second-hand store and cut them to size to fit the windows. Then I bought a suction cup kit from Amazon and I now have custom window covers for all of the windows. They also contribute to keeping the heat in and prying eyes out!

Nice guys. Yeah, so I super-heat our cabin/greenhouse as we're settling in. Then sometimes fire it up at 0400 if I have to reduce my personal chassis fluid weight. This takes place inside and outside the vehicle at the same time. Gotta leannnnn in- errrr out.... lol

We bought that very same mini heater for our cold weather camp night with the in-laws over thanksgiving. We bought it off of Amazon because it was the lowest wattage draw we could find at 200 watts per hour. The down sides were very little heat retention in our uninsulated Sequoia and plugged into our 500w power station only gave us a maximum of two hours of operation. I ended up installing a 110v AC power port into the rear bumper so we could have shore power accessible inside and just plugged into the in-laws garage power with an extension cord. Now we use a larger 500wph heater and it cooks us out of our sleeping bags.

That tiny heater looks perfect for us. Do you suggest a small tire inflator? The Napa one is out of stock locally.

Should do a secondary battery setup, it’s not as portable as the power station but you can run all your accessories of it and not drain the main on and you can charge it of your alternator. Really good for overlanding

@TheFraziers
@TheFraziers 2 года назад
We still own it but are definitely not using it during the winter. The tent is just too cold compared to sleeping inside the car. We should definitely start using it again when the warmer months return.

Water 1 Gallon per person per day, a small Single Burner Backpack Stove will be your best friend. For power supplies, even my Jackery's have low temp cutoff protection built in so pay close attention to the recommended operating temp. If you can afford to pick up a gas powered generator and you don't live in CA it might come in handy as a back up power supply. Now I prefer to do my winter camping in a Hot Tent - Canvas tents with a Mr Buddy Heater or tent stove. A small shovel and recovery gear is a must, and a Garmin InReach to let your family and friends know that you are okay

I’m thinking of running the exhaust from my car into my tent to keep myself warm. Just run the car all night and let that sweet sweet smelling heat from the exhaust rock me to sleep.
