Then came Bd3-Bb1-Qc2, and he must concede e4 to close that dangerous diagonal, but then the white darksquared bihop came to life, hitting e5-d6-c7-b8--Then Carlsen opened up the queen side for his heavyweight pieces, put pressure on d5, got passed pawn on d6 and an attack against the nacked black king. Reminds me of the best Karpov.

White will take the rook on d2 and after all exchanges, white will either be up a bishop or be equal in material, but with a nice passed b pawn with the queening square guarded by the bishop on g3. The best move is to move the king out of the light square bishop diagonal to avoid its checks, then Nb4 is more of a threat, but still, nothing will change too much, even if white allows it.

Vishy’s last capture where he takes the Bishop with his King, was a mistake at 13:10. It led to what would be a beautiful forced mate after two more moves so Vishy resigned (Kd5, Qd4#). I looked at this position in Stockfish and taking with the Rook leads to a bad line as well, and just extends the game further. The engine says he should play Qb7 or Qa7, taking the bishop back is bad either way. He could have extended the game further but would be lost unless Magnus made some huge mistake. Beautiful mate and great play by Magzy as usual.

I think both of them played beautifully but magnus really knew his evaluations, he knew which pawn movement would active his pieces the most, At 2:29 magnus played e3 which not only activates the bishop but also allows magnus for future castle and the other rook can join in for double up. This move suddenly makes magnus from no development to alot of development. And Anand was pretty good at start all developed. My favourite move of this game, e3. Magnus played like a magician breaking through Anand's line when he had a complete block of structure by his pawns and magnus had less mobility 7:50 but magnus played so good that after some moves it was opposite. There are alot of strong moves played by both.

He resigned because he either gets mated or is left in a losing position. Black could move Kd5, then white goes Qd4 for mate. If black does Rg7 to block the check, white moves Rg6 and is guaranteed to win blacks rook leaving black in a losing position.
