You Will Go to Jail - Big Lick Animal Abusers Protected by Sheriff Deputy! 

Wow! Just shows that info need to continue spread about this practice! This has been going on for years and organisations have tiredly worked to shut down Big lick and its horrible treatment of horses. Just goes to show they need to continue spread awareness

They do it because all they really care about is money, ribbons, trophies, and accolades.

It’s the good old boy state…or one of them. Plus it’s a huge horses community there and bred there. To fight these losers, you’re on an uphill climb. I’ve been screaming about this for years in Tennessee and Kentucky… no almost no avail.

Have had several discussion with theae owners they honestly belueve this is a natural way for horse to act. They obvioualy dont know the signs of a highly steessed animal or they dont care.

@@colsho6795 They know because they have to cause pain for the horse in order to create the gait. There’s no way they don’t know that their horses can’t go out in a pasture and must stay in a stall 24/7. There’s no way they don’t know that the horses tail tendons are cut and their tail put into a “tail set device”. The owners are the ones doing it to the horses so they do know. They just choose not to admit it.

Shame on the sheriff deputies. They ought to be held accountable just like the people who are abusing these horses. 9:27

Not to mention when they are done with a lot of these horses the lucky ones were gotten rid of before their bodies truly broke likely because scarring started to become visible on their legs, but the unlucky and likely more common ones are dumped once their back end has given up due to this unnatural gait. And even though I sadly will never be able to get into rescuing this beautiful breed, I LOVE watching videos of people working with them they're just so beautiful, especially when properly cared for.

We've spent decades trying to do it. I was involved in ending soring for over a decade. The sore horse people will STILL sore. They truly don't care, and they make money off of abuse.

I owned a former big lick horse when I was a kid. We had purchased my very first horse from a TWH breeder in central Minnesota. My family and I were newbies and trusted them and did not immediately get a PPE. We were told she was 9 years old and her SSH papers were pending and that she looked so malnourished because she had just had a foal in Texas and was shipped up here from their “partner” for sale. At this time the SSH registry was pretty new. And we eventually did get those papers. Unfortunately Angel came down with a case of heaves and our vet came out and said, well she’s in pretty good shape for her age. She turned out to be in her mid 20s. Even her papers stated she was 9. In an effort to avoid us sueing them, they gave us a pick of any horse for sale on the farm. We took Sunny. A big, beautiful bay gelding with the most incredible mane and tail. We were told he was a former “big lick” horse and didn’t live up to his hype so he was gelded and sold. He did his very best for me. He took very good care of me. And by the grace of god, after a few years, we ended up selling him to an old farmer who just wanted a big horse with a smooth gait to ride around his fields on. But he never would know how to run like a horse should. His muscles in his tail were cut to make it sit up, so he’d always have less control than necessary. He escaped a far worse fate than most. And I know it goes way beyond just strapping stacks to these horses feet. I don’t know why this practice won’t die.

Whenever I hear of anything in Tennessee this is what I think of. The entire state should be ashamed. No matter how beautiful the state is or the music that comes from it, the shame of this overrides everything else.

@@k.leimomicasstevens8469 and just their hideous laws with auction horses. Like here in the UK, laws in some areas are improving, including the conditions required for a horse to be sold especially in auction. If I remember right, Tennessee either has laws or no laws that do not filter what horses can and cannot be sold in auction, it is why feedlots and flippers thrive, they can give horses little to no care and just keep passing them from auction to auction to flip them like a piece of damn furniture.

You are 100% correct. How to affect the money flow? By spreading the word about the abuse, by turning people off from attending shows, by educating horse owners and potential horse owners so they turn away from the Big Lick cult. That's really all that can be done, aside from laws being passed making the Big Lick illegal.

@@darebear2438 on the evidence of what you can see in the shows (no matter what discipline), knowledge of how you have to get the horses to do what you want, and worst of all, most horses in competition are kept in stalls, even if outside a little, they are alone, never in a herd, to "avoid injury". But keeping a solitary animal alone is abuse in itself.

Because some rich people think they should be entitled to carry on their ridiculous "traditions" and they've got rich friends in high places who keep them protected. It's going to take a lot more awareness-raising and outrage for there to be any real change. Those poor horses... the sweetest breed too 💔

I support your message and the protests, and it was a great idea to enter a horse in the show so you could have access to the back. However, instead of immediately being confrontational with that sheriff by saying, “That sign is irrelevant,” and waiting to then say, “Would you like to tell him why it’s irrelevant?” you could simply have said, “We’re showing a horse and we’re on the way back to start getting him ready.” If you had simply done that and showed him the entry paperwork, he would have then let you go on your way with no more delay. There are times when being confrontational is appropriate and necessary. This wasn’t one of them.

They don't. The inspections are a matter of public record, and as such the public is allowed to witness and document them. The inspector was intentionally misleading members of the public while on duty and needs to be investigated and probably disciplined.

I agree. A lot of people involved with Big Lick are brainwashed and blinded and don't even know it. Many grew up in this cult and were raised to see it as "normal". I think more and more are "seeing the light".
