Thank you for sharing this with us! It's fascinating how people abandon homes, country schools, country churches and even trains! I love this sort of "stuff":)
This line up is sitting quietly deep in the Cumberland Hollars lost in time: Reading Railroad ALCO RS-3 now in the faded Southern Green, and White, and two passenger cars that was once owned by the New River Scenic Railway, that ran on the now abandon New River Railway Branch. You are at the south-end of the branch sitting behind the idle (now closed) Premium Coal Companies (TCMC) Mine in Briceville,TN. This line is still owned by Norfolk Southern, but could you only imagine that 4 plus years ago this was a bee hive of action where 4,000 tons of Cumberland Plateau Coal was pulled from the deep mines and surface pits delivered by truck, and rails. As time went on and coal was slowly beginning to make a decline a small organization known as the New River Scenic Railway formed, lease the line, and ran tourist operation til about 2008-2009 and went under due to a fire at the New River Scenic Railway home office, and depot which killed the organization, and eventually led to the state absorbing the organization, and assets. Years after RJ Corman leased the line til 2013 when the Premium Coal Companies (TCMC) Mine went under, and the lease wasn't renewed by RJ Corman from NS. Today the Branch, the mines, and its history is fading away by the years, and the only example of this line that was being used at one point are these pieces of abandoned equipment that once belong to an organization that doesn't exist. Thanx to KD rail photography for some of my lost info... nice video gentleman
The locomotive is an Alco RS-2 road switcher, a first generation diesel. Unlike modern diesels, it was run with the long hood forward. It was never steam and never coal. The train was obviously last used in tourist service, the first clue being the baggage car set up as a snack bar. The other clue being a locomotive normally used in freight service painted in Southern’s elegant passenger color scheme. You didn’t show the back end of the train, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a caboose, yet another clue of tourist service. Cabooses were never used on regular passenger trains.
I love the old trains. This was a great explore, but even armed sometimes the smartest thing to do is to leave. It's much easier to prevent something than to try to stop it after it's started. I think you all made the wisest choice. It was great you got the video you did before you had to go. You covered a lot of ground in a short time.
The FAM is this amazing my grandad just watched on the TV so I watched it on my phone, the spider is the second scary thing on that train. I SUBSCRIBED
Trains like that are diesel-electric. It is not converted. The engine drives a generator and the generator drives electric motors on the wheels, or 'trucks'. nice video.
Right. (I recently bought a couple of DVD sets including the old Buster Crabbe "Flash Gordon" serials, re-cut for feature film release. In one of them---I kid you not---Flash and other prisoners are *shoveling* radium into *atomic furnaces!* Reminds me of this.)
60 years ago my senior class took a train like this from Ft. Wayne to Washington D.C. Then to New York City. It looked like this one. Even the toilets. Memories.
It would be so awesome if there was some background information in this sort of video researches. I mean like: who, when and why abandoned it ? Like it is much more fascinating to know when that train was left to rot when it's glory days of travel ended.
I'm a conductor. That wheel on the outside is the hand brakes, when you pulled that lever you released them. Good thing for you it's been sitting awhile so it's in emergency. Won't go anywhere. That space that goes down into the nose that you thought was storage is the bathroom. Looks like a SD40. We still use them in the yard. It's not abandoned it's in storage, I've seen older in service. Keep an eye out, RR police are Federally licenced LEO's meaning you get caught you're done. 👍 Cool video.
You guys were not alone that is for sure. I saw the shadow too as well as heard someone moving around. Very spooky at night. Had me on edge the whole time Awesome.........
Used to work rot the Rail Road. The green wheel you were turning is called a hand break. Kind of like a parking break on an automobile. Train breaks work off compressed air , no air , no breaks. We always set the hand break if the car or engine was going to sit there with no air. Thanks for the video , nice !
I didn't read all the comments but i did see and hear this: at 10:14 as you turn the camera 10:22 look into the metal plate on the wall to the left i did see a shadow there moving right to left; at 13:13 when you say "what's that?!" there is a womans voice? saying "right here" or "come here" something like that; 15:10 yep that "hiss" sounded like when a diver is taking breath from the oxygen tank. All of you are awesome and I do enjoy all the vid's. Just as nutty as we all are, in different ways, there are just as many out there..so please be careful with all these endeavors. Love and Light to all.
OK...did u notice everytime u tried to continue thru to the last car something happened that stopped u?? first time someting was thrown and the second time you heard a squeeling pig noise....someone didnt want u to see what was in that last car....it is where the cables lead too.
I love trains! It is a shame of the condition that the locomotive and cars are in. They still look like they are in semi-good condition; for the most part.
Where were you exploring the train? My husband is an avid railroad buff. He was describing everything on the train and trying to figure out what the name of the engine was. The engine is an ALCO.
At about 11. Minuets and 40 secounds when you were looking down the carriage someone threw what looked like a rock at you you all heard it and looked back woods but it was in front of you it sounded like rocks hitting metal because it hit the door frame a few centimetres in front of you.
Believe it or not people that run child pornography website try to locate places they can run their business and store their material out of the way places. There was a story just recently about a giant shipping contain out in the middle of no where that had computers and boxes and shelves of kiddy prom. Be very careful as people maybe trying to use that train for unknown, illegible and dangerous business
It's like when you find these old homes or trains or cars, your going back to another life time all but forgotten, it gives you a different feeling all togeather!! You think of people who rode this train on their way to many different destinations, some happiness at the end of line some a lot of sadness at the end of the line!! Woundn't the people that rode this train an the ones that keep it going be surprised to see this old train again!!!
I love this type of thing! Anything abandoned draws my attention for exploring. How do you find stuff like this? I'd like to explore some stuff around my area. Don't see too many blatently abandoned places though.
At 11:37 you can hear something bang up against something and it's caught on your camera. It happens really quickly but you can see it for that brief second
I love how every single time he tells you if you see or hear anything let me know and something happens 10 seconds later and also when he says smash the likes and something happens lol
Poor old girl, just sitting there slowly rusting away just seeming to be forgotten in time. Unlike her glory days just right out the factory with a fresh coat of paint, ready to be a iron working horse of her time. SUO 520, know that even though you're time seemed to be short coming you will never be forgotten.
Great video. That’s scary coming across what you did. Thank goodness he only messed around with you a little instead of being hopped up on something serious. ❤️
What an awesome and creepy video guys.. I saw the shadow on the door, going to right to left. WOW that was so creepy. At the end I heard like a hissing sound?. Good job fellas
I think it could have been vagabond. It was a fast shadow for sure. It freaked me out just by watching your video. I wouldn't want to be there in person.
I don't know what is going on but I heard stuff right in the train with them. Near the end of the video when you're at the bang. Put your earbuds in you will hear the sound of air escaping or steam. I have played that part over five times now. I keep on hearing the same thing air or steam escaping like when the train stops. There's something paranormal going on just like with whistling the sound was there in with them
May last point Sasquatch throw rock, whistle and knock on trees to communicate in the night. And I'm not just pulling your leg. And they are communicating about you in their territory.
Tracy; I used to live in Reno; and I was there 2 weeks ago. Between Reno, Sparks, Carson City and Virginia City, there is a ton of things to explore. The hotel in Virginia City is an excellant choice. The Virginia & Truckee Railroad is a good choice. Sparks has a couple of abandoned casino's; and downtown Reno, some of the shops (one a pawn shop) are former casino's and have history. The rock climb across from Harrah's is the former Fitzgearld's Casino; and it has history. The sunken train tracks (dig) used to run at street level until they spent $1 Billion digging the trench. There's a locomotive and railcars on display in Sparks. There used to be af Coney Island amusement park between Reno & Sparks. I-80 now covers most of the site; but there's a small restaurant that is the lone survivor of that amusement park. Where the event center for Harrah's is, used to be where Harold's Club was; which Howard Hughes owned and stayed awhile. They have the air show, hot air balloon races, bowling championship, and that Mapes Home, tha tthe city keeps moving to a new location. I can name a whole lot more - mines, Lake Tahoe, abandoned railroads, etc.
This train is in Tennessee it broke down years ago and from what the video that I saw it was in it was an excellent condition over the years the kids have just destroyed it
I carry a gun every day so I totally agree that you need to carry one. but, tell your friends that are with you to NEVER yell out"we have a gun" that is the dumbest thing you could do. I have been in situations like that before and if someone that in with yelled out we have a gun. after I dealt with the situation I would go the hell off on the person or people that yelled that out. Don't ever do that!!
When I was in 2nd grade I lived by our town's "train depot". Was a little bitty building that was just the "office" but the depot nonetheless lol. They would always park the engine right next to it all the time as they went inside. Well.... kid does what kids do and "this kid" had a empty train engine to explore lol..... Used to play on it all the time.... The part where said "I like flippin' all the switches" ..... he likes it, but a "kid" just cant RESIST lol. The scary thing looking back now is..... they did not shut the engine down when it was parked so it was idling as it was "parked".... One day I was messin around on it, and I managed to find the HORN lever........ I didn't know I could RUN that fast!!!!!!! lol. Bout a week later train was rolling by and as I was playing on the gravel piles that was next to the "depot", the engine didn't stop at the depot, it stopped in front of the gravel pit and instead of getting off and going inside, he got off and straight to ME!! lol Of coarse after the horn on the "empty" train went off he saw me hauling ass as he looked out the window lol. I got a "speech" (of coarse) but after he got done getting on to me, he gave a ride on the engine... wasn't a 'long" ride but still gave me a ride after "yelling" at me....... If that happened now days..... it would probably involve cops, judges, and legal system with my name in it. But..... I never sneak onto the "empty engine" again after that lol.
THAT IS WHERE THEY PUT IT!!..It is an old "SOUTHERN" passenger train that was used for excursions.. It is in excellent shape.. The locomotive looks like it needs a little help but is not far from being able to run down the line.. SAD that people are starting to damage the train though. I wonder if Norfolk Southern has any info on it?
oh this train, now i know were its from carpetbagger and a friend of his did a vid on this train, it was a moutane side ride that would go from one part to another then back again, it broke down and they just left it there,
Why would they just leave it? It's hazardous for rail service to leave a locomotive sitting on the tracks. Making it dangerous. If a train ever went down those tracks by accident, it would end badly. Whether by the poor rail maintenance, or the old rusty train, it's game over. They seriously need to remove that thing off the tracks.
@@USAFreewayROTF I am pretty sure someone said the original railroad owner abandoned the track. The site seeing company rented the track to use for sight seeing. That all went away when the site seeing company office burnt down and the business was lost. No trains travel these tracks. The train was most likely parked because it had a problem but it was never fixed and it was not worth fixing for the collectors. I don't know but it sounds good. lol
What was thrown came from in front of you in the other car. You can see it going threw the air. Left to right. About 3/4 the way up the seats. You cought it. Look like it had no body throwing it. Its just in the air by its self. Hoped it help.
lmao. if there was someone pissing about outside, they would be findin it hard not laughing, having the 3 in the train yelpingto each other.......thats if it is all true
MOst likely the wires going to the lights are so somebody with a small generator can get electricity running to the compartments. But yah, somebody was outside watching yall, and that makes this eerie and fun. ONTO TIMS Vid to see what yall found.
1:10 The wheel sets brakes manually on the locomotive. 3:30 The "short nose" on diesels would typically be a place for tools, toilet, etc. No coal guys LOL this is not a steam engine (although Alcos smoke like the devil!) :) Good find. This is a Southern Railway Alco RS3 diesel, originally built in 1951 for the Reading RR (Monopoly fans may recognize that name!). Here's a great shot with more history. Sad that it's rusting away. www.railpictures.net/photoexif/609608/
a strip leg orb weaver...very common...they love to build webs near my porch light in the summer...they mop up on some good grub near porch lights..they are non-poisonious docile spiders..please dont kill them...im not an entomologist but i did stay in a van down by the river last night : - )
I haven't watched this for a long time. It's funny you say night with a tripple long i, Niiite. Sounds like kids jacking around with you. Good thing you brought your plumber.
That hand-wheel you turned is to manually engage/release the brakes. I hope you turned it back where it was. That may be all that was keeping it from rolling.
If you was and play the video at 11:30 to 11:40 you see a piece of glass being thrown but the direction it came looks like it was right in front of you and it was just a shadow
