I lived through the winter of 1962/63 in the UK. One of the coldest in this country, no central heating. Coal fire and parrafin stove in the bathroom. Ice on the inside of the windows, my brother's drink froze by his bed! I survived, we played in the snow and came home happy and rather wet! I am now 70 years old and survived!

I live in Canada and this will be my 4th winter living in an unheated and uninsulated garage due to the horrible housing crisis. It’s not the coldest part of Canada but it gets pretty cold. I also grew up in cold houses and we’d huddle around a heater or in one room where the wood stove was. This used to be the way it was, and my mother and grandmother tell me of how they used to stay warm. My grandmother says that they would sometimes stay in bed on really cold days during the war when there was no coal. I know it’s not the best situation but you can do it. Dress warm, get big candles and pile on the blankets. I have 9 blankets on my bed. It doesn’t bother me now. Take care everyone.

The title of our textbook was "The Mountains Don't Care" . We alone are who must care to survive extreme conditions! I learned that cold air runs down hill like water! When camping in the cold, don't sleep down in the draw, sleep on the high ground like a ridge. Build a wind block if it's windy. You can dig a shallow trench as long as you are tall. Then build a fire in it early in afternoon, once it's down to a bed of coals, throw the dirt over the coals to bury them. Put your sleeping bag over it, it will be warm by bed time. You're right about the calories and layered clothing. You don't want to sweat while sleeping, just stay warm. Thanks Bjorn for what you're doing for so many people you'll likely never meet! For instance across the Hudson Bay Polar bears can be seen hunting again with snow and ice levels back to where they were during the 1980's. Also Artic sea ice has made a significant come back, summer ice at the end of September covered 4.92 million sqm which was 1.35 million sq kms higher than the 2012 low. One thing that I learned when I spent a couple of winters traveling in an RV is to ration your propane and heat yourself, not your poorly-insulated quasi-house. If you have power, the best way to get yourself (and however many other people can fit around your table) as toasty as possible, using as little of it as possible, is to make a kotatsu. You get a small electric space heater. You put the heater (with enough space not to be dangerous or catch anything on fire) under a low table or RV dinette, cover the table with a thick blanket/quilt that is big enough to drape down to the floor and then some, maybe stick an extra board on top if you still want to use a hard surface for food/drinks, and nestle with your family/friends/cat in the warmth sealed underneath by tucking the edges of the blanket gently around yourselves. The rest of your RV/house can have frost on the windows, but you and your loved ones will be cozy (and have not-frozen drinks on your table) with as little energy consumed as possible. In even more dire circumstances, you can also forgo the space heater and just hoard body heat under the table, too.

May I suggest fingerless mittens, or even mittens with short finger tubes? They are sometimes called "farmer's market mittens". When they are made from 100% natural fibre (sheep wool, merino, alpaka, yak) and fit the hands snuggly they help to keep your fingers warm. If you can spare a pair of woolen socks, you can fashion wrist warmers from them - if it's a knee-long pair, they can even cover your underarms. - Also, if you're sitting down somewhere for an extended period of time, put a warm hot water bottle in your lap between the folds of your blanket.

I learned how to deal with pretty extreme cold when I lived in far northern New Mexico earlier this century. I've taken the trash to the other end of the property in a tee shirt when it was -20 F. It was no big deal. But I'm back in mild, damp SE Virginia, and 40 F. feels freezing to me now. I'm nearly 75. I can't handle cold any more. We are not able to afford to heat the place beyond the mid-sixties, and to me it feels like a Scottish castle in January all the time. I will make it to spring -but at what cost to my well-being? Hang in there, people! We've got the fight of our lives on our hands, and we can't afford to lose!

It was -8c a few nights ago here in the Cairngorms of Scotland. -18 was last year's low, with four feet of snow at my door. I've got a burner AND an oil fired boiler, which are both able to heat the radiators and hot water. Logs are cheap, and I only use the oil sparingly. I have a hot water bottle, and hand warmers for outside. For power cuts, a whistling kettle goes on the burner, there's a camping stove in the kitchen, an emergency generator in the shed, plenty of torches, candles and emergency supplies. Like you, I grew up with this, snowed in for up to a month, and if we weren't prepared we'd be in a sorry state every winter. I say a prayer for those who may be about to find out what it's like to be cold for the first time in their lives.

Excellent advice in this video! I currently live in California. Despite what some may think, our winters can get chilly, but I've lived in other parts of the US that routinely got extremely cold during the winter (frequently 20 to 40 below zero). If you live in Europe, please know that MANY of us in the US are praying for your safety and well being throughout this coming winter. The US isn't in nearly as precarious a situation with our energy supplies as you are. Please do not think others don't care about you. Network with your neighbors if you don't already, help those you can, and don't be afraid to ask for help if & when you truly need it. Again, prayers from the USA! 🙏

Mrs F. here. We are in northern Sweden. Nightly, temps reach the minus twenties. It's cold. Our last heating bill for ONE month was almost five thousand kronor. (for non Swedes, that's horrendous) so we don't use the central heating any more, we're careful even about heating water, and we at least have one open fireplace. I am Scottish born and was raised without indoor plumbing and central heating. We made it just fine. Yes, you'll be cold. At times it's miserable. But humans survived since the beginning without central heating. They herded us into dependence...upon authority, upon governance, upon technology. We forgot how to look after ourselves, relying instead upon the nanny State to inform us what to do. Look to the past. Look to how our ancestors survived. Look to the past to learn how to navigate the future. And always, stand strong, never bow the knee to anyone. And stay human.

Go to the store and get some wool thread and needles, and you can make yourself some warm clothes without electricity. Print out instructions from the internet in advance or get a manual from the store, if your phone is out of charge often or you're worried the internet will also be down. Or ask some neighbours to teach you if they know how to knit and you don't. Slightly repetitive labour with your hands is a great way to keep yourself occupied, while also offering a good opportunity for self reflection.

They said warm beverage and avoid alcohol. Once one said that if you have two sleeping bags one has a colder rating, use the two of them and I wnt to say the lower cold rating on the outside but do check. Many use some type of the silver lining, space blanket type of tarps bivvy bags and of course the plain space blankets. The space blankets must not touch your skin in order to work.

Bjorn, thanks for the tips to stay warm. Although I live in Canada, I was surprised by some of your suggestions, such as wool blankets. I have many sleeping bags and have been pressured into parting with them. But no, I am not a minimalist when it comes to cold weather! Two winters ago I went in to an obsessive frenzy to make warm curtains for my huge window. That room is much warmer now. I felt the parasites would cut off the heat. I hope I was wrong, but it just looks like early intuition. I’ll be looking for wool blankets now, even though I am allergic to anything but merino wool (very expensive!). One big overlooked problem in a no-heating situation is dampness. If a room gets cold, the water your body dissipates will probably stay in the room, e.g. condensate on the walls or your bed stays damp when you get up in the morning. In the long run that probably will lead to mold growing to where you are most and could cause very serious health issues.

Bubble wrap over the window glass keeps heat in and gaffer tape around the window shuts prevents draughts. If you are using a gas central heating system with convection radiators it is a good idea to clear them of the dust that gathers in the convection fins between the main rad panels. This can be done with a damp strip of an old sheet or towel, a bit like flossing your teeth. It can get messy and dusty so lay down something covering the floor beneath the rad while you work. This greatly improves system efficiency and will warm up the room faster. Ensure the system is topped up to working pressure, with no air pockets (radiators are hot at the bottom and cooler at the top) and bleed the rads accordingly. They often have a sludge build up if the system hasn't been flushed for a few years. Rads will be cooler at the bottom and hotter at the top. This requires the radiators to be emptied, blown through with clean water from a hose pipe, and replaced and refilled. There are many videos to find on yt and the job should be within the capabilities of the average diy person. These maintenance tips can save you a substantial amount of money in the long term.

Great tips - I’m always nagging my family to get their central heating systems serviced once a year as none of them are DIYers. Also it is essential to get a limescale remover for the system which should also be replaced annually. A plumber once told me that the biggest cause of boiler failure was the build up of limescale scale in hard water areas (which is most of Europe).

Staying inside out of the wind is the most basic thing to remember. My kids and I moved a huge bed into the kitchen one Winter in our old farm house to survive a faulty furnace , in an old farm house. We felt fortunate to be out of the wind. Drank hot tea and made soup. Made Us tougher human beings. tms poet Ohio USA 12/16/22

A cheap (under $10.00 U.S.) way to keep the radiant cold from coming in through a closed window is to create a dead airspace with common painters plastic and duct tape. If you're exceptionally clever, you can make a double dead airspace in the window frame for even greater efficiency. This allows ambient light to come in, and you can still see through the window. Another cheap fast way to create a warm living space is to hang blankets from the ceiling around your bed with another blanket suspended over the bed from the ceiling. This will create a small insulated space that can be heated with 'everybody's favorite' flower pot and candle heater.

Hi from Christchurch NZ Bjorn, I am happy to catch one of your videos today. I love where you are filming and your voice is soft and subdued as if you are respecting the environment round you. You are so right, most people do ascribe the most saintly motives to authorities, institutions and Governments!!! Even when the corruption is staring them in the face. I follow The Aussie Cossack in NSW and he has a motto ( stickers as well) Film The Police. F the police. he was totally and relentlessly harrassed during covid by the cops and he is in hospital and last night at 2.30am, three cops visited with some paperwork for some nebulous offence. Its disgraceful. Have a very good day dear man.

I own an 80+ year old house, all block constructed. It has old world charm, but it's not the most efficient to heat. I use the fireplace quite a bit. There is nothing like the crackling of a fire on a crisp morning or a cold night to add the extra warmth. Not just physical heat, but the environment of well being. Hyggelig, I think it is how it's said. Come January in Northern Wisconsin, we can hover around-23⁰c for days on end. We too have been raised to know how to deal with the cold. Of course, that just makes the cross country skiing better. Lol.

Agreed! I've been saying though for years and I keep getting banned on FB for sharing YT videos of TOP SCIENTISTS STATING THERE'S NO CLIMATE CHANGE! WELL NOT THAT WE CAN EFFECT OR CHANGE CYCLICAL AND WERE HEADING FOR A RAPID COOLING AMD PROLONGED ICE AGE JUST AFTER A (TEMPORARY) SHORT INCREASE IM TEMPERATURE NOW! AND the Co2 GOES UP FIRST, (THEN) THE TEMPERATURE RISES! - Then it's FALLS (RAPIDLY) AND THERES AN ICE AGE! VIRTUALLY OVERNIGHT for a few thousand years! ...THATs HISTORICAL FACTS, going back 400,000 years from the Antarctic ice cores they have been studying gathered from the 1970s! THEY KNOW THIS! -Carl Sagan stated the same! As did MANY top scientist and they STILL ARE! BUT THEY'RE "SILENCED" permanently!! Luckily I just about remember these things Bjorn has mentioned from when I as a kid being taught certain things by my grandparents who grew up in poverty in London and had nothing had to literally survive even my mother didn't have running hit water until she was 14 and had a tin bath on the wall that had to be filled with kettles and that was up until the early 1960s! They lived in a shared townhouse that had 3 families and all shared one bathroom. Hard times and her parents had it tougher when they were young. When I was young spent weekends and holidays in a caravan but old style one bit like now no modern conveniences and used to use it from March until early December in England back in the 70s and 80s, as you can imagine no insulation to speak of single pane Windows and used to wake up with ice inside the windows at the start and nearing the end of every season we just used to layer up wear pyjamas football socks hot water bottles in our sleeping bags and they weren't cold weather ones they were regular cheap single layer ones lol.. and that was it. I guess it was akin to how people lived 100 years ago and we even had to walk over to the toilet and shower block with a towel and shorts whether be cold snow rain all weathers every morning and use an outside porta loo type thing BASICALLY a bucket with chemicals! The oven and a calor gas fire was all that was used to heat the caravan and cook and we loved being down there from March right up until early December having fireworks! Was great! Kids now don't know hardships but they also don't know the joys of a hard but free childhood! Playing out riding our bikes and playing football, rounders, run outs, going swimming in the sea and for walks along the beach flying cheap kites. Making go carts and things out of wood and bits of old prams and bikes, climbing trees,(falling out) lol 😂 ... just Simple things, but kept us busy we amused ourselves and it kept fit and generally healthy. Built up our immune systems and I'll didn't realise how tough we were until you look at kids today and think back, I hope that experience has prepared us to survive the HELL that's coming I'm sure if the WEF GLOBAL Elites get their way!(as they are now!) Unless we fight back now!? LIKE ITALY!! The WEF PUPPETS need to be OVERTHROWN OUSTED BY FORCE NOW! IN UK AND GLOBALLY! ITALY is the ONLY Country NOT WEF CONTROLLED NOW!! FACT! And IT'S HORRENDOUS here in England when it's Cold! MANY People come over from Canada, America, and Other ICY,,FRIGID, SNOWY PARTS of the world, BUT THEY CANNOT BELIEVE HOW MUCH COLDER that it is(FEELS) in UK! It's SOUL DESTROYING and DEADLY! ...Even though on a thermometer it may be the same or look warmer, the "REAL" Temperature how it "FEELS"/"AFFECTS" people is MUCH MUCH HARSHER and UNLIKELY to SURVIVE the cold DUE to the "HIGH MOISTURE CONTENT OF THE AIR THE COLD, DAMP, RAIN, WINDCHILL and other Factors mentioned below by another post. UNTIL someone has experienced a (COLD) UK Winter, they CANNOT understand it.. BUT once they have, they tend NOT TO WANT TO DO IT EVER AGAIN!! (Its what made Brits such a Tough Nation over the Eons!) Great comment below and information from someone who had been in Scandinavia and England. I'm in a dia situation myself last 3 years this year HORRENDOUS! ...I haven't had a hot dinner in 3 years! And can't afford my heating am about to get repossessed could be on the street and I'm disabled with a chronic back injury asthmatic and suffering from Chronic acute anxiety and Suicidal Depression because of it! I Paid in ALL MY LIFE and now CANT GET what people jumping off the boats LITERALLY are getting handed on a plate for free! ILLEGALS! ITS A TRAVESTY! DISGRACE AND NEEDS STOPPING BY OUR PEOPLE! COS OUR WEF PUPPETS I'm the House of Common WILL NEVER STOP THIS MADNESS UNTIL OUR RACE DOESN'T EXIST! FACT! 🤬 England Great Britain is becoming the MIDDLE EAST by force and by heinous WEF PLAN! As is SCANDINAVIA and Northern Europe, and other Native or Predominantly Caucasian/Arian countries like Canada, Australia, New Zealand and US. Etc (THE ONES AFFECTED BY LOCKDOWNS BRUTALITY AND LEFTIST WEF lockdowns, shot and TOTALITARIANISM! Flooding out counties with people who are ILLEGALLY claiming ASYLUM from SAFE COUNTRIES LIKE FRANCE! Who being WEF PUPPETS CONTROLLED ARE PROMOTING AND ENABLING it! When Italy sent them back they WHOLE OF The WEF/ EU GANGED UP AND THREATENING AUSTERITY measures PURELY for enforcing the agreement France Made regards illegal Musl1m Migration from Middle East and ALBANIA so sent them back and had paid France to keep an agreement just as UK have and France have NO INTENTIONS OF STOPPING THEM! WE ALL NEED TO WAKE UP STAND UP PROTEST AND FIGHT! £7M A DAY ON FREE 4 AND 5 STAR HOTELS for illegal ALBANIANS! 2% of ALBANIA came to England LAST YEAR ALONE ALL CRIMINAL MEN! EE NOW HAVE OVER 10% OF THE ALBANIAN POPULATION IN THE UK ILLEGALLY! THEIR WHOLE COUNTRY will be here within 10 years!! Or LESS!! This has to be STOPPED! We have HOMELESS ENGLISHMEN AND WOMEN KIDS AND EX SERVICEMEN SLEEPING ROUGH ON THE STREETS OUTSIDE HOTELS HOUSING THESE ALBANIAN ILLEGALS! ITS DISGUSTING!! WE HAVE TO STOP THIS! IF THEY (WEF/GOVERNMENTS) CAN PUT UP THESE ILLEGAL MIDDLE EASTERN Terrorist CRIMINAL FOREIGNERS FOR FREE! WHY NOT OUR OWN!!?? THAT'S the whole point! Its MASS GENOCIDE planned Extinction of the Caucasian/Arian Race across our native Countries Of Great Britain Ireland Scandinavia Northern Europe, and GLOBALLY!! THAT £7M A DAY would pay EVERYONES ENERGY BILLS! THINK ON THAT! AMD THE HOTELS would RID BRITAIN of our OWN HOMELESS POOR SOULS IMMEDIATELY! THIS IS PLANNED! LOOK WHOSE RUNNING (OUR) COUNTRIES! ** WAKE UP ** *** STAND UP *** ** AND FIGHT ** COME ON PEOPLE !! WE ARE Being ERADICATED ON A GLOBAL LEVEL and at a PLANNED ACCELERATED RATE!! THEY ALSO have NO respect for our country our people our race our heritage our culture! And THEYRE ALL DRIVING £100,000-£200,000 SPORTS CARS! Within 6 months of being here from Crime! As was demonstrated when they SHUT LONDON DOWN ON ALBANIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY!! FCKING DISGRACE! 🤬🤬🤬 Cheers from London 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧🙏

We've done a lot of canning lately because of this mess. Anything non-perishable that can be stored without power is a must in my book these days, because I absolutely expect these psychopaths to find any stupid excuse to cut power. Fortunately, I've never been someone used to luxury or excess comfort. Keeps you on your toes, you know? I never really made much of it and simply thought as basic pragmatism, but I'm thankful for being able to run on the basics instead of desperately adhering to excess comfort to the point where one can't just stand to push a damn switch. Those who do, however, I fear will be the most affected from all this. But hey, we aren't human if not adaptable, yes? It will take some courage to face the upcoming storm, but I'm wishing everyone out there the best.

Here in northern Alberta Canada, we have had -30°C a few times this year already. All the tips that you have shared are absolutely true and essential. Here, -30° several times over the winter is normal. At -40°C, we begin to complain a little bit.
