I don't comment much on video's but I HAD to on this one! I am also over here in southern Alabama laughing at you two and your good ole boy's accent!! We SHORE DON'T HEAR OUR SOUTHERN SLANG but others SHORE do! My husband is Canadian and you should have seen the folks gathering around me when I am up there wanting me to TALK SOME MORE...I JUST LOVE YOUR ACCENT!! I would respond, "ACCENT?? WHAT ACCENT? You folks are the ones with ACCENTS! I don't have an accent, I have good ole SOUTHERN SLANG! EVERYWHERE I went and even uttered a PEEP folks would ALWAYS respond, "You aren't from around here are you, I can tell by your accent you are from somewhere down south in the US! Glad I am DIFFERENT ENOUGH to get a response from folks that often led to some good conversations...NOT ALWAYS, but most of the time! Travis, I saw your beautiful cabbage and I'm very proud of you and your success growing it...even tho the lights went out the moment you went to present it. I'm proud of the ones I've grown even tho they are still small, it is my first attempt to grow cabbage and I DID IT...also with carrots. I GREW CARROTS here when no one else can due to our heat/humidity! I also LOVE your HONESTY in your taste-testing of produce and by-products! That look on BOTH your faces and lack of words told me all I needed to hear about the sauerkraut...IT AIN'T FITTIN' TO EAT was written on BOTH your faces! Thanks for all you both do for us homesteaders in helping us get good seeds & equipment to grow successfully. Keep the video's coming and SOMEDAY, I'm gonna make my way over your way to see you when I visit my relatives in southern Georgia. I am an official GEORGIA PEACH transplant to LA (Lower Alabama) as I was born in Quitman GA. Don't fret what petty things people say about the way you talk or what you do to get attention and viewers on here. At least you got THEIR ATTENTION enough for them to make fools of themselves and for once have something GOOD to talk about...YOU TWO AT HOSS TOOLS!! 'Nuff said! Blessings to you & yours and BLESS YOUR HEARTS from a TRUE SOUTHERN BELLE with an accent!

About those ‘accents’…..you remind me of my Aunts, Uncles, cousins from so many years ago. Those were wonderful days growing up (well, maybe not the time my cousin and I were sent out to pick strawberries for the dessert and we ate so many, got so sick I didn’t eat strawberries again for several years). But listening to you it brings back so many blessings I hadn’t thought of in a long time! I thoroughly enjoy your accent…I can understand what you’re saying, I don’t have to rewind because you talked so fast I couldn’t catch everything the first time you said it. I’m excited to try my hand at container gardening and it won’t be a big garden, just my husband and myself. Trying to determine which plants I can successfully grow in my backyard. In zone 8a and I’m watching as many of your videos as I can to get a better idea on how to get this going. Gosh, you guys make it seem so easy. Thanks for the great videos! And there is nothing wrong with your accent!

Before cooking it, just run it through a quick rinse! Towards the Spring, when the barrel is almost used it, the Kraut is often very salty/sour, we always give it a quick rinse to lessen the salt! It works just fine. Add a small onion, chopped, half or whole chopped/peeled apple and some caraway seed with whole pepper corns, and cook for 1/2 to 45 minutes. In Germany we also add about 3 Juniper berries (but take those out before serving), but they are hard to come by here in the US. And that my dear folks at Hoss, is the traditional German Sauerkraut. I will mostly put smoked pork chops on top or smoked pork hocks and cover it with kraft while cooking...45 minutes!

I have to grow 3 to 4 plants a year, due to my grandmother and son have a battle if I don't. I also grow the Cherokee Purple as well. One year when you get a chance try the Kentucky Beefsteak as well as the Hillbilly Beefsteak. Yellow pear is one of my favorites because it produces all summer long, even in TX heat. Most other tomatoes give up the ghost in the dead of summer, but not the yellow pear. I can't begin to thank you both for sharing the immensely important and valuable information; I am a better gardener because of it! Thank you so very much; keep up the great videos....I'm now inspired to attempt growing different varieties of vegetables in my greenhouse and gardens that I would never have attempted before watching. We reap what we sow...stay safe during this very difficult time!

Great show guy's watching you folks show really gives me that itch to start my indoor plant starts. Being in 5B I have to put the brakes on. I have been growing tomato plants about 45 years and have grown a whole lot of different verities but the one I personally like the best is Beef Master it is a hybrid indeterminate that keepson producing till frost kills it. Very good disease resistant plant. If you are looking for a excellent yellow summer squash check out butter stick. You don't need to add butter to this baby. Keep up the Great Work.

I can't do the SourCrap! My aunt was from Illinois and used to make it, SHE WAS THE BEST COOK IN THE WORLD, that's the only thing that she made I could not eat. Well that and something she called Yankee Dimes, made with carrots I believe. Have a good one and May God bless y'all

Love your show! Entertaining and full of info. You sure have great conversation and great chemistry together. Regarding accent: that's unique to you and no one should ask you to alter it or criticize you for it. God bless you both. I subscribed. Re 'Click bait', it's sometimes annoying if the content is not good, but I discovered your channel due to the title of "you won't find these tomato varieties anywhere..". I love tomatoes! So, I'm glad of your title & glad that I found your channel.

For winter squash, if you get the chance- get some Sweet Meat squash! They are an heirloom variety from Oregon. They have great flavor, sweetness and will keep for months.In Oregon, they are typically harvested about October 1 and they will keep till the end of march. Yum!

I look forward to watching you guys every week!!! I am looking at planting a warm weather cover crop on a garden plot this spring/summer for a fall garden. What would you recommend planting and when? Is there one specific thing or a mix? Thanks and keep up the great shows.
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 4 года назад
Kind of depends on what your time frame is. Buckwheat is a short-term warm season crop that will mature in 4-5 weeks. Sorghum Sudangrass, Millet, and Sunn Hemp are more long term ones that can go 8 weeks or so before going to seed. The sorghum is great because you can keep mowing it and increasing organic matter in the soil.

Hoss Tools, Thanks for the reply! I’m in zone 7A in the higher elevations of northeast Alabama. I am planning on letting the spot “rest” from normal garden activity this spring and just have something it from May/June to about September before fall planting. I would like for it to add nutrients back to the soil as well as organic matter. I could possibly even do 2 plantings with that time frame?

I love you channel is all about giving back to the community. I am a juvenile corrections officer in Ohio. I have a love of gardening and teaching young men and women about growing food. It can be hard to teach youth about food when they might only be at our facility for three to four weeks. Any advice or recommendations I can use to take back and incorporate into our program?
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 4 года назад
That would be tough when you only get a few weeks with them. Even though they wouldn't get see the entire process to fruition, they can be a part of it in some aspect.

I was given some indeterminate tomato seedlings last year, they grew vine like crazy but hardly produced tomatoes and I trimmed regularly. This show gave me a few ideas about what could have been the problem. Thanks.
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 4 года назад
Indeterminates don't do as well down here for us because the heat will get them eventually. The determinates produce more in a smaller window, which is all we have.

Ok guys my potatoes are cut and will be ready in a few days. I will be planting in a clay loam soil. Question: With all the rain we are getting here in southwest GA, should I let the dirt dry out a bit before planting? Im worried that the potatoes will rot.
@gardeningwithhoss

Yes, better to plant in dry soil than wet.
