Amprius is also producing it but only for the space industry. At the end of the day quality will win. And its going to be interesting which company is going to do so.
In the world of Batteries, scale and price matters. In regards to quality, given CATL's track record and experience, Amprius will also be at a disadvantage too.
Catl said they can do the same thing and have it available later this year.... amazing as soon as one company announces it... all these others say they can do the same.... either they could do it for awhile.... or they just all came up with the same breakthrough at the same time.... which is highly unlikely
500Wh in 1 kg is not enough for airplanes !! people are completely stupid ? 500Wh /1kg energy capacity can be used for max 1 hour flight of small 2 person airplane but not for airlines. For real professional flight we need energy density at 1000Wh in 1kg
Thats true. But Aviation is not only limited to airplanes and airliners. This battery will finally empower short haul EVTOL‘s and will lead to Urban Air Mobility. Several companies are working on such concepts for years. The batteries to power those vehicles wasn’t ready yet.
The energy contained in 1 KG of jet fuel or gasoline is well over 100,000 times that of any battery, including what this video proposes. To have batteries powering airplanes is a huge pipe dream, howbeit, it does have a plus side of driving battery technology to vastly improve
Best drones with a good camera can fly up to 45 minutes , if you use cheap and light camera you can fly up to 55minutes . All of this with energy density about 250Wh in 1kg , then with new battery 500Wh you can fly a best drone for maximum 90-95 minutes , it is so easy to understand that it is still not enough energy density for any passenger
There are many places where a total refresh of rechargeable batteries tech is desperately needed. From everyday cellphones, tablets, laptops, regular car batteries, Radios, UPS for computers/networks etc, and small electric devices (shavers, massagers, GPS devices, etc) the world desperately needs a battery upgrade The Military is a huge consumer of rechargeable batteries for the countless devices they use
Thats a really great conclusion! thank you 🙏🏽 And I think we are moving forward to this Reality. Battery Breakthroughs everywhere almost every month. Of course not all of these will make it to market maturity, but still all of those discoveries will lead to an overall advancement of the the battery technology. So stay tuned
I DO NOT see the point. "Jet A fuel, the standard fuel for aviation, has an energy density of about 12,000 watt-hours per kilogram. By comparison, Amprius' batteries currently deliver 450 watt-hours per kilogram for each cell".
Jet fuel has disadvantages for planes as does gasoline for cars. With these new batteries, electric airplanes are competitive for VTOL and short-distance flights and the pollute much less.
Elon Musk for the time being does not get along with his 4680 batteries which he stated back in 2019 or 2020. In practice he uses the cheapest batteries on the world market LFP weight ratio and worst power. In order to sweeten the evil they will use a new concept that is more safety. Clearly something is going slow in his plans.
Not possible for passengerplanes... How many energy has 100000 kilo kerosin ?! How many Batteries you need for same Energy... How many wight have that batteries then ? Its easy to calculate... ^^ Good for cars and bikes but planes... nope...
True, there is a big difference but I guess that as for cars also electric planes use the available energy much more efficient so part of the problem is already solved.
True. for airliners maybe not. But aviation is not only limited to airplanes and airliners. EVTOLs are waiting on the sidelines to enter the market. Whats missing was this kind of battery!
Imagine how much faster the world could develop green energy and climate change fighting solutions if it wasn't for intellectual property rights, patents and limitless capitalist greed in general...
