Hey I just recently got obsessed with this game and your videos really helped me understand the meta. Here are 3 of the teams I won with this week. (Pets are listed right-to-left) - Elephant, blowfish, snake, triceratops, leech - Rhino, snake, blowfish, fly, trex - Ant, triceratops, trex, stegosaurus, husky (this looks familiar...) It seems counter-intuitive, but pairing blowfish (get hurt deal damage) and snake (friend ahead attacks deal damage) really helped me tank through 10 wins. Your videos are really funny and helpful. Thank you for showing me how to play this silly game and not lose.

Your discussion about meta vs fun is a common problem. This is a "Cursed problem" there is no perfect solution because there always has to be a "best" build and once you know about it you will feel bad not playing it on some level. To me the best a developer can do is keep making changes so the meta isn't stale for too long, and if its a rogue-like, maybe make the "meta" components rarer.

It really depends on what I'm playing whether or not I tierwhore, but usually I do. Playing a game well is why I play games, I don't care if I get called a no-life sweatlord for doing the best I can. For PvP games I just play whoever I like (usually ends up mid-tier). For PvE co-op games like Monster Hunter World or Deep Rock Galactic I *have* to minmax because I'm extremely lucky if my teammates use even a single point of Weakness Exploit in the former or aren't using two dysfunctional and anti-synergistic Overclocks for the latter. Party games I minmax the absolute hardest to demolish my friends and leave nothing but death and destruction in my wake.
