Some of The Spades from Bronxdale was using their martial arts moves while dancing.. and would re-enact everyday activities thru dance...Black Willie and Blackjack called this new aggressive competitive dance "Burnin"... This new Burnin style of dance became a big trend all around The Bronx and NYC with young boys AND GIRLS....Teenagers from the Soundview area would often travel around The Bronx going to various other parties dominating taking over the party.. The dance called "burnin" became known as "Breakin or going off".. Wallace D from Bronx River Houses and others from the Soundview area was taking over the dance floor at a Kool Herc party.. Burnin, Breakin, Going off...At that time, Trixie who (got his name from Coke LA Rock)...was the best dancer at Kool Herc/Coke LA Rock parties, decided to battle Wallace D...Trixie started "burnin" "Breakin" dancing on the floor battling Wallace D from Bronx River... When Kool Herc saw his friends like Trixie "burnin" on the floor.. Kool Herc decided to put the "break" parts of songs together elongating the beat..which gave the dancers more time to do their moves.. Kool Herc called the technique the "merry go round"...DJ Kool Herc called the dancers B.Boys... The Burnin style of dance evolved and is the Genesis/the Precursor of B.Boy Breakin (Breakdancing).. Kool Herc and Coke LA Rock (mostly at nightclubs on Jerome ave under the 4 train) became the "Mecca of Breakdance" where all the best B.Boys went... Years later after most of the original B.Boys retired... Latino Rockers added their "ROCK" moves into HIPHOP transforming B.Boy Breakin until what its known as today.. In this video..Blackjack's little brother teach about Burnin "to the beat" and how HIPHOP really started.

52 Block was Brooklyn All Day - Bed -Stuy Do or Die those was the good old Warrior days where if you didn't have hands you was out class and to say more all of this came out of our culture just like our Vernacular and the way we dress which proves the very essence of Hip Hop came from our people as natural as can be. We the only people that didn't have to change our ways as a people because it was all natural again to us. Peace!

American music forms: Spirituals, Blues, Ragtime, Jazz, Country, Gospel, Bluegrass, Folk, Rock n Roll, Doo-Wop, Soul, Funk, Disco, Punk, House and of course Rap and Hip Hop---all enjoy well documented African American roots coupled with undeniable Black American influence---whether directly or indirectly.. Latinos -- Puerto Ricans particularly -- please explain how you co-created or co-invented yet another installment in the legacy of Black Musical expression known as Rap and Hip Hop, yet didn't co-create or co-invent any of the elements of the 14 or so African American music forms that preceeded it? Or why you were nowhere to be found and absent during the creative and inventive foundation outlining the forms of African American musical expression, brilliance and greatness throughout, or even prior to the previous 14 or so African American music forms that are mentioned above. Yet then, all of a sudden--out of nowhere, you folks come along and falsely claim latinos and/or puerto ricans co-created and co-invented Rap and Hip Hop 50/50 half n half (which is the evidence-free and utter nonsense being peddled by Dr. Derrick Colon, radical latino, Fat Joe and numerous other un-informed and envious latinos---claims latinos never mentioned, verbalized or asserted during its inception in the early 1970's)---latinos claims of "50/50--half & half co-creation and co-invention just don't add up---it makes no sense and are increasingly coming under heavy scrutiny which is leading to these claims being easily debunked--widespread. Nice try though latinos and puerto ricans. Make it make sense Latinos.

I dont know if ANY of these pioneers ever went to Africa (Besides Bambatta), so to call them African American is a falsehood. Those young men were experiencing something that no African has experienced here in America, therefore besides the drum, which is a heartbeat pattern, Black Americans had no influence from Africa. Other than that, I agree with your synopsis.

Met some of these cats during my time in Stevenson High. I got sent to Morris High after too many fights in Stevenson.. I was at that school for only 6 months. Started hanging out in bronx park after joining Zulu Nation. Shout out to the adolescents chapter.. We been going to bronxdale for all their jams. Not sure why they claiming no one could come up in there? I'm sure if you was looking for trouble.. bronxdale was NOT having it. To correct Black.. It was "Up-Rock" before it was "Breakdancing. Which Bronx Park was creating in their jams. Those park jams were the biggest things to go to. I was raised around the Savage Skulls so, I was good all day.

KRS 1 is WRONG we were not trying to mimic anyone. We identified with the THEME'S of Martial Arts Movies and Bruce Lee Ideology. That was already in us and we were attracted to it when we saw it portrayed. Our lives were kind of like those movies.

@deeel5692

@@gardenstatebossTaking something back was not the point. We were kids. 99% of all TV was White. Blaxpoitation movies had just began. We embraced seeing people who were not White and we identified with the THEME'S of Order, Balance, Loyalty, Overcoming adversity, Discipline. We lived in dangerous neighborhoods and identified with the stories of Marital Arts movies for that reason. Gangs were prevalent and in the movies they had their schools and Masters. Their were many similarities. We were not "Mimicking" Shit, we were kinda living that and we had youthful imagination on top of that. The things we saw in Martial Arts movies and Eastern Philosophy was already who we were. We identified with it and were drawn to it. And it was not seen in America before. WE are the reason that the Asian Martial Arts Movie Industry thrives today because of the support of the young Black youth putting that on the map.

Burning was not "new" he even said he got it from the older guys....burning was all over nyc since the 60s...burning was the precursor that evolved into bboying which was a bronx thing...bboying starts around 74-75 with ground footwork...(btw what cris brown does is not breaking) lets keep the history the history and the facts the facts family

@Victorvixxjorge4095... maybe the phrase of "burnin" was used earlier... tho that still has to be proven/documented...however the style of "burnin" Black Willie and Blackjack was doing was not done all over nyc since the1960's.. that's a lie...the Spades putting the fight maneuvers into dance on the bronx nyc streets was totally new at that time..at that time in the 1960's. many African Americans was doing MAINSTREAM dances...the "bump" and regular mainstream type dances back then
