One Dance UK is delighted to welcome you to Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) for the Young Creatives 2022 showcase, supported by The Place. Like many other activities, the Young Creatives programme was forced to change and evolve over the last two years, with many workshops taking place online and the creation of work for screen rather than stage.
As we returned to face-to-face events earlier this year, each young choreographer began the process of planning and developing their own independent work, leading on every phase of the process - from initial ideas to lighting and costume!
The creation of each work has been supported by a Choreographic Mentor - Kate Flatt OBE, Liam Francis or Vidya Patel - as well as benefitting from the Creative Leadership of Sarah Dowling. What these young people have achieved is nothing short of outstanding and demonstrates that the future of choreography is not only in safe hands, but is set to push boundaries and expand the horizon of what dance can be!
We are also delighted to have partnered with the Xzibit Young Creatives programme this year, an artist-led hip hop dance theatre project that focuses on developing the young dance creatives of the future through an intensive choreographic mentoring programme.
This showcase includes works created by two Xzibit choreographers, as well as a performance piece featuring several of the Xzibit East Midlands choreographers.
