I’ve flown over 100 Young Eagles. If a YE is particularly keen I let them “steer” the airplane for a bit. One kid was particularly good. He had never been in a small plane but used MS Flight Simulator. He went on to become a pilot. An airline gave us a case of sick-sacks but I never had a kid need one. Flying YEs is one of the most gratifying things I ever did in aviation.
Funny, I took the controls on my flight back in the early 90's. And I flew a little extra because the pilot got us lost and had to figure out where the airport was to land. At least, that's what I thought. 30 years later I am now working on getting my license at that same airport, and I can't imagine getting lost now, unless he really wasn't local 😂
Back in the early 90s, my dad took me to a Young Eagles gathering at Nervino Airport north of the Tahoe area.... ... Sat in the right seat of a Piper Apache and i dont think i ever came down from that flight!...... fast forward 30 years and im now a 737 CA for a major US carrier...... Thanks Dad for taking me .... still remember it as one of the greatest experiences as a young teen...
@@rward883 Juan has mentioned this before. He was a teenager with a 65hp T Cart. On a hot sunny day at 5000' with a passenger, couldn't get it flying on take off. Everybody should learn to fly in a 65hp airplane in the mountains!
Thanks to all of those pilots that participate in YE program. I've kept those memories from 9 years old and have been a part of the fuel for my love of aviation.
That is fantastic. My mother took me to Buchanan Field in Concord, where they had a program for a penny a pound. You got to fly in a light plane. This was in the 1960s.
Did my first flight in the early 90's with EAA1. Sadly, I didn't think it was any more than just a fun ride, I didn't ever give it any more thought. 30 years later, I'm working on my license.
Hey Juan, Been subscribed to your channel for a while. As a former Civil Air Patrol cadet, who had the privilege to fly why the Young Eagles as well, I want to extend a THANK YOU to you and all the other pilots who make those flights possible. My days in CAP and my interest in aviation are some of the most cherished memories I have of my childhood. I also had the privilege of volunteering for several years at the Watsonville and Salinas airshows. Some of the best times of my life! Keep on keepin on brother. God Bless 🙏 @blancolirio
My first flight in a small plane was at EAA Chapter 32, Smartt Field. KSET, Young Eagles. I got to ride in a Piper Warrior. I didn't realize airplanes turn using bank and I got scared when we banked for the first time. That was 25 years ago. I ended up joining the chapter and volunteering on the ground at the chapters Young Eagle events until I left the area. Great memories!!
Love Young Eagles! My son had his first flight at 9 years old in a Navion with Young Eagles, and another at around 16. He's now 24 and a line check captain with a regional airline flying Embraer jets.
Ahh! That looks like a smooth operation they got down there. 👍🏻 I gave a couple kids rides this morning and it’s quite rewarding to see the joy and excitement on their faces when they see their home town from the air!
An EAA Young Eagles event nearly 30 years ago is how I got my first taste of general aviation and my love for flying. I was the oldest at 12, and got the fly with a CAF pilot and his T34B. I will never forget that, I still have the Polaroid!
Thank you very much for presenting this meritorious Action!👍 Btw.: Very nice to see the beautiful Spring Weather! Here in Germany we´ve a late winter now with frost and very ugly wind and rain.
My love for aviation goes back to when I was maybe 3. Two of my three kids have been on Young Eagles flights. My son will be graduating two weeks from today with his degree in aviation. I can't thank this prgrasm enough. I truly hope some day he will pay his experiences forward.
Great program, I took my kids to a flight, my daughter flew in a nice 172, and my son had a chance to fly in a beautiful v-tail bonanza but he didn’t want to! I guess it wasn’t his thing, but I wished I was 10 years old so I could have flown!
We were flying YE in Auburn today too. Perfect weather. One of my favorite things to do in aviation. We pilots have the easy part. All the wonderful volunteers and organizers make it happen. 😃☀️✈️
This sounds like a wonderful program. I grew up on the other side of the hill from a small field in northern NJ, and we had small planes directly overhead all the time--I suspect they used something right by us as a signpost. I would have loved something like Young Eagles.
Flew in one of these exact meets out of Stockton, Ca airport back in 99’. The guy took me and my dad up in a Cessna 172. At the time I was really into flight simulators, I was talking instruments(ILS, VOR, NDB, glideslopes, flight paths, etc.) with the pilot, so the guy let me take the plane from about 800ft, climbed to 1500. And then handled the descent to Lodi airport. We did a touch and go, and back to Stockton. Was amazing. I still to this day couldn’t believe it was totally free. They asked for not one dime. Great experience.
That's Fantastic, I would say the Future of Pilots, Both Military and Commercial Aviation Wise is hopefully looking good. These Children are the Future, Getting a Mind Set Now could be Life Altering for So Many Young People to Aim for something in College And not End Up in Anywhere Land and in Possible Trouble or other like Problem Situations Etc. Great Concept and Great Idea to Put it on Your Posts. Regards.
Memories from late 70s . Used to fly my Cessna 140 from Lancaster Fox Field to visit the old state park ghost town of Columbia. I see the area hasn’t changed much.
Hey Juan. Welcome again to Columbia. I live in Jamestown and this is my home airport which I love. From my location I am able to the see incoming and outgoing aircraft in the pattern. I also have Flightradar24 so I keep close track of everyone. Amazing how many private jets are in and out of this airport which i think is 4800’. I keep missing you at these functions. Didn’t know this was going on this weekend. I hope I’ll have a chance to meet you one day. Hopefully I’ll see you at Columbia Fly in. Thanks for all the good coverage.
I'm presuming any food served is provided post flight. A university friend and I went for a flight (his first ever) with another friend, a fairly new pilot building his hours, (this many years ago - 80's) in a club airplane I think he had just joined - I volunteered to do the initial post flight cleanup and [essential] detailing while the pilot and our friend recovered from the inflight abruptly curtailed and in plane precipitation event.
Adding this - relative [to] a comments mentioning 'sick sacks', I had brought a few bags in a coat pocket but all three of us were looking through windows at the ground. horizon and sky - when perhaps I should have been watching my passenger friend to catch the early moments when his face started changing color, I got a bag out but to no good use.
This might seem off topic, but I assure you it is not. Juan, do you happen to hold an amature radio license? I am not a pilot, but l do run several nets a week and I have always been fascinated with airplanes. Listening to aircraft and ATC I can tell who has a radio license. The cadence is discernible. Anyway, love your channel. Kirk KB7QOD. 73.

I see that the kids in this video, and in other Young Eagles videos, are predominately girls. Boys naturally gravitate towards aviation and it is odd to see boys as the minority in these videos about Young Eagles.
Our Young Eagles event yesterday at Columbia was about 70% boys and 30% girls. We are thrilled to have as many kids of either variety to introduce them to General Aviation.
@@johnwilliams2768 - I'm sure there are Young Eagles events that are not mostly girls. I would attribute that to the organizers of each event. I am favor of getting as many kids involved as possible regardless of their gender. I am not in favor of filling most every seat with a girl just because an event organizer wants to see more girls.
Actually the Pine Mountain Lake chapter has members from both PML and Columbia. We do Young Eagles events at both fields. Both fields by the way are owned by Tuolumne County.
@thomfult7956 “Factually” that poster was making the point that our EAA chapter achieved the milestone of 1,000 flights provided October 2022 at Pine Mt Lake. Sorry you missed that.
I've been uncomfortable with Young Eagles since a convicted child molester who cannot have contact with children was organizing YE events and EAA and the chapter seemed OK with it. Some of the local chapter folks attacked people like me who said they needed to pause and figure things out. No judgement. Safety really should be #1. I lost alot of respect for EAA because of that.
@@markbanks3319I can assure you that is not the case at every Young Eagles event. I attended an EAA BBQ last fall that was preceded by a YE event. The organizer didn't know who several of the pilots were who had just shown up from out of the area. The flights didn't follow a set route. There was no ground organization or safety protocol. I'll take credit for advocating for risk management (CYA) being implemented by EAA even though it's not followed by local chapters. And I saw (and saved) Juan's attack on me for speaking up before he deleted it. I am a member of EAA and I did get off the sidelines and do something. Apologies are accepted. 🤝
Juan, I am still angry with you. Your comments towards Rebuild Rescue and Sam's death were uncalled for. Constructive criticism is one thing, but your comments were over the top abusive and uncalled for. This is not how to build enthusiasm and a love for aviation.
