I love her reaction to our greatest hits that I grew up with. Cause to me, it's like , I don't know, but it the best you can't get this in this time. I love it.
This whole album was written and recorded by Tom Scholz (The guy in the silver jump suit with the gold guitar) in the basement of his Boston apartment building in 1974/75 which was unheard of back then. He also built a lot of his own recording equipment (He was an engineer at Polaroid) and helped to make home recording what it is today with some of the gear he designed. The fact that he got these kinds of sounds in a basement with home-made gear in the mid 70s is incredible. And he wrote great songs on top of it (He played all the guitar and bass parts along with the organ, the guy is crazy talented). Your reaction to Brad's high notes was awesome, great job as always!
I’ll go ahead and blow some very deserved smoke up Tom Scholz a bit more, by pointing out that he wasn’t just any engineer for Polaroid (which is already impressive enough); by age 27, he was one of the senior design engineers there.
Brad Delp's voice is just so easy to listen to. Some people can hit high notes but it may not sound the greatest. Yet, Brad Delp can hit those high notes and it is so pleasing to hear. RIP Brad. You are missed.
Oh wow I didn't know he had passed, so young? Such a big part of the Boston sound, and visuals. 'Only' the drummer for one of the greatest rock acts in history!
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Yes, to those who prefer a mindless monotonous dance beat to complex musical craftsmanship and lyrics that are actually RELEVANT to real life and intellectual thinking, rather than a desire to get down and boogie. So deep, isn't it?
@@jeanclaude7018 Why what you like is terrific, a classic - while what someone else likes "sucks"... Is an old old OLD argument - as old as when Cain complained that Abel was gettin' favored treatment from Adam.
The look on your face when Brad Delp started hitting the high notes - I started to cry. A child of the '80s, I've been a lifelong Boston fan, and I've always appreciated his vocal talents. I was saddened when that voice was silenced so young in the 2000s... To see how you react to Brad Delp's gift makes me so happy, thank you!
In many ways Boston was the Tom Scholz show but he was extremely fortunate to have Brad Delp as a vocalist. I couldn't imagine anyone else singing those songs. He hit those high notes with effortless ease. That is truly talent.
He worked with Delp for a while, so he knew what he had with him, and wrote accordingly. Hard to know what to expect had he paired with a different singer.
The band Boston was one MIT student.who had an idea of what a rock band should sound like, set up a studio in his home, and began recording all the parts, then one day he stumbles on a man with this voice, and the rest is history. What amazes me about his upper register, is when he taps into it, the electric guitar comes in for the pre-chorus, and I genuinely have a difficult time telling his voice apart from the guitar.
Tom had been playing in bands for a few years before setting up the studio. Brad was pretty well established on the local club scene when he joined forces with Tom to form Mother's Milk.
If you haven't already, check out Pat Benatar. She was a classically trained singer who was accepted into the Juilliard School of Music but chose a different path and married her high school sweetheart. Her mother was an opera singer who gave it up to raise her kids. Fortunately, Pat found her way back to music. Fun fact: Pat & her guitarist Neil Giraldo have been working together since 1979 and married since 1982. Pretty remarkable.
I think you had a totally fitting reaction to Brad Delp’s singing- you clearly grasped the significance of his astonishing high notes. It’s been said he had a genuine four octave vocal range. I wouldn’t quite know myself, but I do know one thing. These still have to be some of the greatest high notes ever hit in rock.
Not underrated, everyone knows the was great. There was a music change in the 80's (MTV would not play rock), lots of new wave, new bands. Very few rock bands from the 70's were able to keep up and stay relevant.Just listen to David Bowie sound from the 70's and then the 80's.
@Spo-Dee-O-Dee True enough. I like what I like and dislike what I dislike. I trust my ears and mind to provide me with my enjoyment response to music. I don't need music journalists telling me that. That's all I meant. There are hugely popular acts that I despise and obscure bands that I love.
Boston was your quintessential in your face, American rock band. Such memorable tunes that will never grow old. Brad was definitely one of the greatest rock vocalists that has ever been. " Don't be sad that he's gone. Be happy that he was here." 😊
Congratulations young lady, youre the only reactionist ive seen for this song that picked up that super high note that matched the guitar towards the end👏
There's something ethereal about the song... especially the last super extended note with the harmony... if you close ur eyes and listen , it has an angelic choral sound ❤
So happy that the young generations get in touch with the incredible 70's, so many talented musicians and groups... It was joy, real freedom and music...
My whole life listening to this song I'll never understand how he hits those high notes. It just seems so natural for him. By the way, the Les Paul electric guitar has a distinctive sound and I just love the way it sounds on this song. Flawless.🎸 Good reaction! 🙏😎😎😎😎😎
Look up Brad's isolated vocals on YT for this song... Beautiful ! The 1st 3 Boston albums will change your life . Every song ! Always love your classic rock reactions Aaliyah, Enjoying your discovery ... ; )
Fun fact Tom Shultz the founder of the band and plays lead guitar he wrote this song about when he was a little kid and he had a crush on his older cousin (Marieanne)
Every song on that album is pure gold, perfection personified! It is probably the greatest debut album by any band, of all time. I would love to see you react to other songs from this album!
It was the #3 debut of 1976, behind The Ramones and The Modern Lovers (who have two more members in the RRHOF than Boston, albeit as members of The Cars and Talking Heads.)
REST WELL BRAD!!!! One of the greatest voices in rock history who ended his life WAY too early! This album is one of the greatest ever(and this is the first album) and this song IMO is top 3 all time!!!!!! Oh, and it brings a tear to my eyes when i see you enjoy this like I have for way too long!!!
The 70's. Best music decade in the history of the world! I grew up in it, and I just want to say to the USA and UK rockers that are still alive today,, Thank you!! Thank you!!
I'm so glad his voice gives you so much joy! It will forever! I've seen him sing this song live over a dozen times (yep, that old, LOL)! The amazing thing, that I actually timed in 1997, he held that last "awayyyyyyy" for 45 seconds LIVE. Because I saw them 2 days before at Jones Beach, NY. and had to know. He was just amazing. And the Best!
He has one of those voices that makes me say, "I wish I could sing like that. Him and Klaus from Scorpions. Hope to listen to them soon. Always enjoy listening to this song and, as always, great reaction. 😊❤
Thank you for taking the time to review this iconic song. Delp's vocal abilities literally shocked the music world and is one of the many reasons why Boston has stood the test of time. Once you hear them, you can never forget them. They were that good. I look forward to seeing more of your reactions to this group. Cheers from Texas!!
I love seeing a person your age listening to, and appreciating the vocal talents of a singer that passed when you were only 3 years old ! The first pause was golden ! Your surprise at his range and how he quickly transitioned to the upper registers was awesome ! I can't wait to watch the rest of the video, because it only gets better !!!
All the harmonies and vocals on this and all the songs on this album were Brad Delp. This album was essentially the genius Tom Scholtz writing, producing, engineering, and playing every instrument except the drums, and Brad singing. Amazing.
Yes, even though they are showing the band “playing” in the video, it is the studio version for the music. So it is Tom playing all the instruments, except drums, and Brad harmonizing with himself.
Brad was not aware there was no band. He did not know for 10 years that all the instruments, except the drums, were played by Tom. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-da7IyPKUOwg.html
What you surely hasn’t noted is that , before the first guitar preparation to the chorus , when he sings “ I close my eyes and I slipped away” he sings the same notes that the guitar plays” . Rick Beato channel puts the voice track only and it’s incredible how Brad sings . This part it’s not notice by many , like me that has been listen to Boston since 1976.
RIP Bradley Delp. Word has it God was putting together Heaven's house band and they needed a lead singer, so he was called home. This entire debut album was amazing, for my money Hitch a Ride is a mesmerizing can't miss song You have to check out
It makes me so sad that someone who was so loved, and so respected, and brought so much joy to people, was so depressed he took his own life........RIP Brad, you may not have known it, but you were so very loved.....
I'm 60ish but I can't wait to see how you sing when you're in your late 20s. You have such a good grass on it. But I can tell man there's a whole lot more to go man you're going to love it if you stick with it. I appreciate your analysis of all the singing in that so much. Brad Dill died far too soon and I was lucky enough to see them in junior high meeting I was probably around 9th grade when I saw them in a fairly small arena in like 1977 on this album tour. The band at that point had become incredibly tight and it just sounded so good and it felt so good. Brad was in his prime and just going nuts. Everybody in that band was really good. It started off as like the studio recordings and stuff but ended up with a really good band. Thank you for your reaction.
Like so very many others (Kansas, Styx, America, Blue Öyster Cult, Ronnie James Dio, Slade, Ted Nugent, Triumph, Waterboys, and many more artists that turnstiles & record sales along with radio play have been legendary with fans) Boston remains completely snubbed by the elitist music industry scum at The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. 🫨 This album and tour were groundbreaking beyond words, yet because Sholz did things his own way and against the grain are banished to the R&RHoF “Island of Misfit Artists.” Another great reaction, maraming salamat po. 🙏 Remember, there is no Boston without the late, great Brad Delp. I say this with immense respect for the unmeasurable genius of Tom Sholz!
I was 14 when this song came out loved it straight away Seeing young people today enjoying it for the first time brings back memories Love your reaction
My favorite band, my favorite album, my favorite song! Brad Delp's voice was truly one of a kind! Yes, Tom was the mastermind, but he NEEDED Brad's voice!!! And with Barry, Fran, & Sib backing up, there's nothing better!!!
LMAO!!! She was talking about his range in the beginning. I was thinking "Boy I hope she put all wine glasses in the other room" this is about to get interesting.
An iconic cornerstone of classic rock. My favorite band since introduced by my brothers in the late 70s. Hope you do the entire album, every song is fantastic.
