Paul McCartney is the OG man! He wrote this song!! Guns & Roses covered the song. So many people have been influenced by The Beatles and by him as a solo artist. I absolutely love him!
I got to see his June 12th concert, at Camden Yards, in Baltimore, with some of my family. He and his wonderful band performed 37 songs! It was absolutely fantastic 👏! And this was six days before he turned 80!!
Once upon a time, there were these mythical beings that wrote their own songs, played their own instruments, sang their own material, and pushed their limits and creatively challenged themselves... then came increased corporate centralization of studios and radio stations. For the last 20-ish years, "musicians" have become a brand, not artists. It's just depressing.
It's kind of mad because if anyone heard any classical music you can have like several different phases of different styles. and people nowadays are shocked by Paul McCartney lol. And "did they use actual bands", like a whole orchestra.. It's kind of sad and cute at the same time. Like I love a lot of modern music don't get me wrong. It's just kind of sad that people don't know the history of music really.
...and those other mythical beings who actually knew what music was and listened to every detail and understood art... Good that this reaction fad is so popular because the new breed is learning. Well, maybe.
It would be easy to make fun of someone who doesnt know who Paul McCartney is but I think its awesome that you are getting to know him. Paul is by far the most famous artist living today and will be forever. One of the greatest song writers of all time and part of the greatest band to ever do it, The Beatles. You must discover The Beatles if you havent already...greatest band by far of all time
But you got to understand that most of us younger people that grew up on hip hop, we've heard of The Beatles but we might not know that McCartney did something Solo or the wings band. We're a work in process so come on give us a break haha
fair enough! I'd still challenge you on Hip Hop, or some other genre ;)...and still envy you a lot! for listening first time. Just open up to the idea that there's SO MUCH MORE
Probably the biggest living legend who’s still, well, living. He’s been writing and recording hit songs since 1962. That’s 60 years!! He was 20 then, 80 now, and still going strong. New albums of new music, huge tours, selling out stadiums for his nearly 3 hour shows, etc.
McCartney wrote the song and performed it originally. He wrote it for the James Bond movie if the same title. GNR covered it years later. Paul is one of the greatest Winfrey m songwriters of all time.
McCartney was the first star/celebrity to write a Bond opening, the Producer heard the final cut of it and said it's great now all we need to do is get someone to sing it for the film, thinking of a female jazz singer for it. McCartney under the assumption he'd be performing for the film said either I sing it or I'm pulling the song and you can get someone else to write the opening.
He knows. 95% of reaction channels play songs that they already know but pretend they don't. Then more importantly pretend to make incorrect statements mistakes or ask questions to get more traffic in their comment sections.
It's a very great and original track from what I hear. Was he doing this Solo or was he doing it with the wings? I turned 21 in October so I'm pretty much growing up a hip hop head but since the virus started, I started watching a lot of reaction videos about rock and all kinds of music. Honestly I feel like guns n' roses took it to another level but it's really not fair since music or Rock had evolved or some people might not agree. But McCartney gets the head back for writing the music and the lyrics. G&r has become a favorite rock band since the lockdown from Corona. It's like the track Knocking on heaven's door by GNR. It's completely different but guns and roses are showing homage to these guys IMO. I would be telling a lot if I said I like the originals better than the guns n' roses. But I have to give the people that wrote the lyrics and the music the most respect for the tracks. Guns and roses just took it up a few notches. Didn't GNR copy or cover another track from the 70s by either rock solo artist or band? Feels like it was a track by them but IDK. Can you guys let me know if guns and roses covered any other tracks that these artists before them had written lyrics and music for and the first place? Last thing I want to tap on would be guns and roses have a trilogy on one of the use your illusion, or maybe both. Guns and roses junkies maybe noticed what I'm about to say. On that trilogy or the three tracks that are supposed to be connected as a story, can you hear the inspiration from those late '60s and early seventies tracks like live and let die and blowing in the wind or even Knocking on heaven's door? Can you hear the influence on Don't You cry? November rain? If we just take slashes extraordinary guitar solo out and mellow it down a bit, it could easily sound like something out of the '70s to me. Did you guys catch any of this. I just want to make sure I'm not some crazy 21-year-old. Sorry so long but I'm on a break from my job and I had to use speech to text. You guys help me out here if you're true Long Time Rock fans on some of the questions I got please. I can't offer you anything other than a thank you ahead of time
YES, Jo Jo you SHOULD!! SO many other reactors who are also your age and were not familiar with the Beatles, their solo stuff after they broke up and other music from the '60s and even the late '50s have gone down those rabbit holes and they LOVE LOVE the BEATLES , their solo works and other singers, groups and bands from the '60s. TRY IT!!
Including all the stuff that's been sampled and copied from the Beatles in rap music. I'm a lot older than Jojo, so I know the Beatles since I was a kid, and I have loved rap music from it's beginning. Still I've discovered a lot more cool riffs, beats and samples that are originally from the Beatles through rap. It's always great to see people open themselves to (old) new things.
Young Man, you have a lot to learn. Enjoy the journey! Paul McCartney is the most successful songwriter of all time. Start with that. This particular song was made for the James Bond film, which dictated the different tempos and quick cuts to match the opening credits. Produced by the great George Martin, who produced the Beatles.
This was written for the opening of a James Bond film called "Live And Let Die" - and it's structure is much like an overture. With varied themes and emotional tones.
ABSOLUTELY!!! These days you don't even HAVE to HAVE a good voice, autotune will fix anything, and I find all these electronic beats and voices totally soulless, it's TOO artificial for me. I LOVE REAL instruments and people who can really sing. It's ok to alter their voices to a certain point for a certain song, but to do it ALL the time? No.
Paul McCartney is currently the richest musician in the world and of all time so it’s safe to say he’s a legend lol. I recommend you checking out other songs by him like “band on the run” and “Maybe I’m amazed”
"OH, DARLING" and "HELTER SKELTER" and then check out Paul singing "HERE THERE AND EVERYWHERE," "AND I LOVE HER" and hear how DIFFERENT his voice can sound. Paul has an incredible vocal range.
This was probably the best James Bond theme song ever. Paul McCartney was asked to write this song for the James Bond movie "Live And Let Die". And this was the brilliant result. Guns N Roses did a *cover* of this Paul McCartney song Jo Jo. And yes, Paul was a member of The Beatles. The most successful, the most influential and most popular rock group of all time. They have these titles in The Guinness Book of World Records. Forget what the Guinness book says, just ask about *anybody* and they'll tell you the same, *exact* thing. And absolutely better than rap. You need to learn about The Beatles Jo Jo. Have to say though, your reaction was really lousy. You didn't seem to take it very seriously and made a joke and a mockery out of the song.
Sorry not sorry, but if you expect kids today to fall all over themselves to kneel humbly at the altar of a band that broke up over half a century ago, you're making a joke of yourself. His reaction was fine. He even gave it 9 of 10. Your reaction, otoh, was total shit. Go yell at a cloud instead of a kid broadening his horizons, ffs.
Such a great film with no weird racial themes whatsoever, no sense that white people are writing black characters and cultures from a weird outsider point of view. Just totally wholesome fun.
Sir James Paul McCartney CH MBE is an English singer, songwriter and musician who gained worldwide fame as co-lead vocalist, co-songwriter and bassist for the Beatles
"Is he a legend?" Yes. Yes he is. The co-frontman of the most legendary band that has ever been. They broke up a few years before this came out. This song was written for a James Bond movie.
Hey Jojo, Weird Al Yankovic actually approached Paul Mccartney about doing a parody of this song, which he'd planned to title it "Chicken Pot Pie", but after hearing the title, Paul Mccartney objected to it informing Al about his Vegetarian lifestyle, which prompted Al to Scrap the idea out of respect for Mccartney
Al did say, Paul was very open to the idea of a parody & said "make it about anything else, fine" (just not about killing animals), but Al couldn't come up with another idea that he (Al) thought would work.
@@wnsafford1854 That is sad, cos I love Weird Al's parodies! I find it strange though, that of ALL the hundreds of songs that Paul wrote, that he couldn't find ONE song to do a parody of?
Check out the Beatles. McCartney along with George Harrison, Ringo Starr, and John Lennon. Greatesr band ever. Wrote and played most everything themselves.
The Guns n Roses version's a cover. Paul McCartney wrote it for the Bond film, Live and Let Die (though before the film was made, he read the book to write the song). He wrote it in an afternoon. The film people wanted somebody else to sing it for the film, he said he'd only let them use it if his band, Wings, could perform it. He won. And yes, Paul McCartney (aka Macca) is one of the Beatles. Also Stella McCartney's dad (the designer).
I was there, too. T'was "loove-ly", in British vernacular! What a show!! Absolutely fantastic!!Thanks, Paul and company. Blew my mind, how many semi trucks there were, just for the equipment, stage, etc.
I remember reading a interview where a DJ was dissing this song as crap so Axl Rose wanted to cover it so that DJ would be forced to play it. I would love if that story were true.
This is the score from the James Bond movie “live and let die“. Paul McCartney wrote all the music and lyrics. There is a full orchestra behind him. Those drums are amazing. Youngblood, just sit back and listen. Music shouldn’t have to make you think.
That's funny. My dad was a musician, and he HATED the Beatles. He was old school and did not like the music trend because he could see the beginning of change to our nation. He made me dress like Father Knows Best when other kids were Brady Bunching it with the clothes. Had a terrible time in school over that. But all that aside as an adult I can see where he was coming from to a point.
@@candicelitrenta8890 LOL, my dad was a musician too, he played 4 instruments and was in several "Big Bands" back in the late 40's and early '50s. He still played gigs until he was 98, he passed away at 102 in 2020. He didn't like the Beatles either, but he DID like their music when it was played by an orchestra. He mellowed on them when my eldest son became the drummer in a Beatles cover band for a 10 year period, He would actually go with me to see my son''s band play nothing but Beatles songs!
@@patticrichton1135 My dad passed away in 1972 at the age of 46. I was almost 14 years old. Now I look at all music with the wondering if he would have warmed up to it. Bands like Yes, Kansas, Styx, Rush, the list goes on.
McCartney played guitar and wrote some of the lyrics for Rihanna and Kanye's FourFiveSeconds. He co-wrote the music and plays keyboard on Kanye's Only One and wrote the main riff used in All Day with Kanye and wrote and sings the last verse.
Yes, Paul McCartney was one of The Beatles, and he wrote this in 10 minutes, he was asked to do a theme song for the upcoming latest 'Bond' film called 'Live and Let Die', Guns and Roses did a cover of it.
Paul McCartney wrote this song with his wife Linda in the 1970s; Guns n' Roses did a cover of this song, as well as Mama Kin (originally from Aerosmith) and Knocking on Heaven's Door (Bob Dylan). Some people believe these songs are GNR original and don't even know who the artists are. I mean, I know people who don't know who Bob Dylan is...is that possible in 2022? Anyway, I like your way of reacting to songs/artists and the discovery of new sounds. You're such a positive, keep going!
When you have talent and creative genius this is the kind of music you get. When you have corporate execs telling you what music to make you get predictive crap.
"This Is Guns'N'Roses" Guns'N'Roses version of this song was a cover Paul Mccartney originally wrote this as the theme song for the James Bond movie of the Same title
Paul's creative input and Musical output in albums Revolver, Sgt Peppers, Magical Mystery Tour, Abbey Road, Ram, Band on the Run is astonishing. All such different albums and concepts. And so many more.
It’s called musicianship. No computer. No drum machine. No loops. And this for a James Bond Movie theme song. A major hit movie and record. You might like Beethoven, also. You just want a steady beat? Get a wind-up clock. Tic tic tic rapper.
This! This was one of the most entertaining reactions I’ve seen! You GO, young man! You just stumbled across one one of the greatest compositions of the modern day! 😎
Much encouragement to you, as you find the places that the old music can take you. BTW, Paul just finished his latest tour. He is 80 years old now, with a legacy that will last. The other living Beatle, drummer Ringo Starr, teams up with other famous musicians, and has a grand old time touring with his All Starr Band. Have fun on your path!
"Is he a legend?" Yes, Paul is the ultimate legend. He was a Beatle. The producer was George Martin, the legendary producer of The Beatles; he did the arrangement for the orchestra. But that is a real band with orchestra on this track. There is a reggae section in the middle, b/c Paul loves reggae and the James Bond movie he wrote it for, Live and Let Die, was set in Jamaica.
Axl Rose was maybe 11 years old when this song by Paul McCartney came out as title track of the James Bond movie Live and Let Die, first one with Roger Moore as James Bond.
Glad you keyed into the producer, George Martin, who also produced The Beatles. To hear the band and particularly the production at its heights, anything from the album, Abbey Road (try Come Together).
Yes George Martin he was a very very important part of Beatles in fact he was the fifth Beatle without George Martin the Beatles would’ve been the Beatles George Martin goes way back to the beginning of way back to the 50s to the beginning of the BBC he produced all kinds of bands such as legitimate bands that played orchestral music and horns and everything and he produced the gun shows and George Martin did everything and the Beatles came upon George Martin and George Martin introduced the Beatles onto a whole new different era and they started in their psychedelic. And they went on and when they broke up Paul McCartney George Harrison John Lennon Ringo start with their separate paths and they all kept their professional musician ship together
@@stevensprunger3422 "gun shows" ?? WHAT is THAT? I know a lot about the Beatles and George Martin....WHY would George have anything to do with guns?? The Beatles didn't come upon George Martin. George Martin came upon them when Brian Epstein, their manager was trying to get them a recording contract. After so many rejections from many record labels, he went to EMI and they weren't too interested and sent him to their "minor" subsidiary label Parlophone....which George Martin was a producer for. Keep in mind that the Beatles themselves has a LOT of IDEAS about how to do their songs, ones that George Martin often didn't come up with himself. BUT he would help them bring some of these ideas to fruition if they couldn't do it totally on their own. He truly IS the ONE and ONLY person that DESERVES the title of "the FIFTH BEATLE."
@@patticrichton1135 Sorry GOON sows Took place on radio over in England with Peter Sellers Spike Milligan and Harry Secomb Classic surreal comedy All the Beatles all love them they inspired Monty Python the Firesign theater etc. Ringo Starr Peter Sellers George Harrison used to hang around together in fact Rango Starr bought Peter Sellers mansion Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr starred in a movie called “the magic Christian” Sours used to hang around with Ravi Shankar and George Harrison The GOON SHOW Aired about once a week on the radio in England…..
Paul McCartney and Wings. Try the album Band on the Run. Has a lot of good ones. Suggestion- group:Emerson, Lake and Palmer- album: Brain Salad Surgery. All of the songs are good.
Artists did each have their own sound to differentiate themselves from other artists and bands. Why would you want to sound like anyone else? Sounding different means the people that listened to you on the radio immediately knew who you were. You don't have that anymore.
Good for you to realize great artistry !! Today music is not even close to the days of old. Sir Paul is indeed special as his former band the amazing Beatles a band that can never be rivaled !!
YES, with flashpots, fire, flares, lasers , AND if it's an outside venue, they add FIREWORKS. The "bomb" flashpots that go off at the front of the stage after he sings "say LIVE AND LET DIE" and the orchestra goes "BOM BOM" that's when they set them off. If you are in the front row it will scare the hell out of you if you aren't expecting it. PAUL had DONE LIVE AN LET DIE in EVERY CONCERT tour he has played since 1976 til the GLASTONBURY festival in England, which was on June 25th this year (2022) and he just turned 80 years old on June 18th. The crowd there started singing "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" to him. Bruce Springsteen and Dave Grohl (from the FOO FIGHTERS) joined Paul onstage for 2 songs each with him. I just received that entire concert on DVD yesterday and watched it today. It was FANTASTIC!!
Check out "Yesterday" that McCartney wrote when the Beatles were together and it is in the Beatles discography. At one point, "Yesterday" was the most covered song by anyone, and it still may be.
#1 Songwriter of ALL TIME. No dispute. Most successful music artist in history. Release 50 albums since going solo from the Beatles in 1970. Had a #1 hit every year from 1963-1987
This was the first Bond movie theme for Roger Moore - it needed to be strong. And McCartney was in his peak - after the Beatles split, he formed his own band 'Wings' with his wife Linda and didn't have anything left to prove, just enjoy himself.
Todays music has no originality and they can’t play instruments, it’s electronic crap, it all sounds the same and follows the same predictable pattern, that’s why you it sounds so good when you hear real singers and real instruments. In the old days everything sounded different.
You should see a video of Live and Let Die performed live. McCartney loves his light shows. If you really want to hear the Beatles play with instrumentals, you should check out A Day in the Life from the Sgt Pepper album.
You don't know who Paul McCartney is? Wow. He and John Lennon, Geroge Harrison and Ringo Starr changed music back in the 60s. In 1970 they went solo and changed the music scene again.
Yes, this was a song by former Beatle Paul McCartney. He was asked to write and record the theme song for the James Bond film of the same name in 1973. Guns N' Roses' version of McCartney's song was actually released 18 years later in 1991. I'm not a fan of GnR, but that's the one track of theirs that I can listen to and enjoy, and that says a lot about this song itself.
The Beatles were a British band who came here in the early 60's and changed American music forever. There was nothing like it here in the USA, and all the girls went absolutely crazy over them. You should check out the history of them. They broke up in I think 71 and went on to solo artists. Paul married his wife; Linda and she became part of Paul McCartney and the Wings. They had the most hits I would say
Theme song to the James Bond movie LIVE AND LET DIE; arguably the best James Bond theme song too (and there's about 50 of them by now). Super thematic; it should sound like a movie song. McCartney was the most successful of all the Beatles in terms of chart #1s and longevity. He's had probably 100 hits just as a solo artist after the Beatles broke up...
once upon a time there was a great band called The Beetles. They roamed the world singing and making young girl faint. Then they broke up went their seperate ways. Paul was the leader. He had a nice career. One day the James Bond people came to him and asked him to write a song for their movie called Live and Let Die.
