George told Principal that he is resigning as he got a job in College Principal told George that the School is getting more funds just becasue of Sheldon
I know the series is designed as a comedy, but the subtext around George Sr. Is really a terrible tragedy. He gives up multiple chances for advancement due to his wife’s fears of change, lets the depression get to him and then gets fired.
This is why you must choose a partner in life that supports your ideals. The moment you start sinking as a man and taking compromises, the attraction fades from your partner. Which is why later in the series Mary starts developing a crush on pastor Rob as George Sr. losses his job and in essence the manhood figure of the household.
The main reason they valued him was because of Sheldon... if he moved up sooner and helped Sheldon graduate sooner, then they'd have had more money. Though, in this case, the issue wasn't moving up, but if Sheldon was ready for that or not... Though, if he started sooner, he'd have graduated sooner and they'd have had less trouble....
You generally do not want to stay if your former company gives you a better $$$ offer. The most often outcome is them replacing you or you leaving them within a year.
the fact that sheldon, told his principle, he was watching star trek, when the actor who plays the principle was IN STAR TREK as the grand negas, amuses me to no end
To be honest, with everything I've seen of this show, Mary is truly one of the most frustrating characters. She doesn't really seem to care about what's best for others and only what will make her comfortable at the end of the day. The number of opportunities that the family turned down due to Mary not being able to accept even the slightest bit of change is painful. Not to mention that she's incredibly hypocritical and obnoxious, to levels that sometimes are even worse then Sheldon. It doesn't help either when a large majority of her decisions are influenced purely by religion and her attempts to push her believes and morals down everyone's throat.
Totally, she is, she has a deep unresolved abandonment issue, and it Is also shown how her mother Is constantly taking advantage of her, but she refuses to Let her go, cuz It Is painful
"She doesn't really seem to care about what's best for others and only what will make her comfortable at the end of the day." That pretty much sums up the way most overally religious people live their lives.
On the religion thing, their entire community are pieces of shit in that area. And that was proven when Georgie and…I forget her name but it happened, had a kid without meaning to. Frankly it was NONE of their business. Only the business of the relevant parties. But no, they chose to make a big stink about it. And this ties in also to Mary’s stupidity. Rather than be there for her son, she was more concerned about being kicked out of the church. One piece of advice people: RELIGION NEVER. EVER takes precedence when it comes to stuff like this. It’s literally just a mentality. Nothing more.
but expects george to support her in her hard times, forgets easily about jesus when she wants to smoke (with pastor rob) can spend whole days with pastor rob but gets burned with jealousy if her husband talked to another woman for 0.0001 secs
The way Mary described George on BBT is nothing like this, George was humble kind and put his family first . Georgie said Mary had a hard time after George died, but it sure didn’t seem like it on BBT .
@@jokerofmorocco Mary’s character is portrayed as selfish. I imagine it can all be explained as because he cheated on her, she remembers him differently.
If I was Sheldon's father I wouldn't have hesitated to take that coaching job more money, making sure that my child is OK in college surrounded by adults.
Yeah, but Sheldon would probably get bullied endlessly in college due to how obnoxious and rude he is, doubt his dad'd gonna be able to protect him for the entire day
@@RandomVideos-yz5qfno body really get bullied in college it’s not high school everyone forms there own social groups and that’s it no bickering etc everyone just does whatever they want
One of the best things this show ever did was change how George Cooper senior acted in Sheldon’s childhood. He showed that he was truly a good guy who cared about his family.
until he wasnt. this is a descent for George. He definitely made himself a piece of shite when he cheated on Mary but up until that point the man clearly needed to divorce her and move on to greater heights. Instead he chose to stay with her "for the family" only to end up depressed, a drunkard, a cheater, and eventually deceased.
He should've ignored his wife and taken the job. He heard that the high school is making money off his son. If he went to the University and ignored his wife. He would've been happy and his son would've gone to college for free. Mary is the reason that family never got far. She held everyone back.
Best missed part of this scene. "Are you my family?" "I like to think of myself as your work wife." and George Sr just kind of does the "know what? I guess so" shrug.
Nobody called themselves "work wife" or "work husband" in the 90s. I cringed when I heard that line. How old is the writing team? 12? What he would have said was, "I like to think I was your brother from another mother".
2:15 “there are more important things than money.” Yeah maybe if you have more than enough of it but if you’re a family who are living paycheck to paycheck then money is kind of important than most things.
Sheldon’s dad deserves so much better. They would have never ended up married if it wasn’t for getting pregnant - they’re honestly not right for eachother
Bit trippy listening to Young Sheldon telling the Grand Nagus about things that haven’t happened yet for Sheldon but are recorded history for the Grand Nagus 😏
This is actually VERY common in coaching, a lot of top athletes not surprisingly are coaches kids and colleges that want those kids on their teams will offer the dads coaching jobs to get them, if I remember correctly Kansas Basketball got a national title over one such deal.
I am moving to a better job also. This new job has morning muffins and 2-ply toilet paper. The downside is it has an escalator in the building that gives shocks if you do not hold only the rubber.
It's kinda sad to see how that happened. If Sheldon's dad was more in charge of Sheldon's welfare, he wouldn't have grown up to be so spoiled and probably would have been more independent. The family also would probably have more stability and means even after George's passing because of the income differential. Sheldon might have had a better relationship also with his siblings. And his siblings would probably be more stable and educated (college is usually free for all of the children of faculty...Georgie could've been in school and wouldn't have knocked up Mandy, Missy wouldn't be rebelling all the time because her family would've been stable, she would've been educated and maybe not ended up with a jailbird deadbeat husband... would've cut down on the family divorce rate)
I'm going to be perfectly honest. Even if George took the college offering, I doubt much would change. If Georgie isn't interested in getting a degree, his dad changing jobs wouldn't of changed that. Could he have avoided the Mandy thing probably but whose to say he wouldn't of gotten another girl pregnant? Safe to say Georgie is not the brightest bulb in the batch and only grew up because of his dad's death. As for Missy: I'm not sure her rebellion faze would be avoided either. As long as Sheldon was getting all the attention Missy was going to get validation somewhere. And it's very possible Mary and George would of divorced a lot sooner if George took the job because Mary refuses to let George have anything he wants. If she's dead set on staying where she is and George decided to take the job, then their marriage is dead.
The mom always pressures everyone to give up their dreams because A) Church B) dont leave the meemaw behind Honestly worst mom to exist. A good mom would let her son do what he wants to and clearly Sheldon has a mature enough mindset to make his decision ...
@Joseph Taub their "creator"? Tf is that supposed to mean? I mean I get that a lot of people are religious but especially sheldon in this show cares for science and not god. He does go along with it for the sake of his family but doesn't actually believe like millions of others in real life. If ya'll want to make people believe in god we're gonna need some definitive, undeniable proof.
The job would of been good for George and the Family plus they would be better financially but Mary didn't want to move away from her mother or her church and always shot down George's ambition unfortunately.
The scary part is how many schools this was likely true about. There comes a time when you simply can't get parts of the system any longer and the whole system has to be replaced. Even in the 90s that cost would have equaled one to two teaching jobs. The schools didn't simply have the funding for that level of upkeep.
Did I just hear correctly that George Sr declined a coaching job in college football to stay at this small high school? Man! Mary really holds this family back from success.
I just started watching this. From wht I can tell Sheldon was spoiled rotten by his mother n his big bro n lil sis hated him for it. His mom made everything about her happiness and his and basically said fuck those others kids they not as smart. The dad is a type of dad everyone wants in life. He tries. He’s there. He puts up with shit others wouldn’t
Mary is too overprotective a good mother would do what's best for her child and she knows that's college and geroge was willing to go with sheldon he is the better parent.
Meraz Khan when you become a parent your whole is trying to protect your child for as long as you can. Sheldon is only 10, he still has a lot of growing up to do lol.
@@coffeeaddictexpress5038 no actually his mental age is more advanced then most adults, and growing up physically doesnt matter in this context, so no he doesnt have a lot of growing up to do
GamePlayGod he is still a little kid tho, his mom is just trying to teach him the world will not be as kind to him as she is. I’m just saying I understand her is all.
@@josephhodges9819 Even Wesley Crusher hates Wesley Crusher. It works when you consider Wil Wheaton is Wesley Crusher and Wil Wheaton hates Wesley Crusher.
Lol, Sheldon would probably help the football team with stats if his dad worked there and he would get "protection" from the team because they would be winning.
I think it's hilarious his mom says "he isn't ready for college" but is perfectly willing to expose Sheldon to the hellspawn nightmare that is public school...
Mary loses her job, George loses his job soon after. Wishing he threw that line in her face when they were broke and Georgie with Meemaw were keeping the family afloat with an illegal gambling operation.
This show has revealed some serious Flaws with Mary I feel. She’s TOO religious in my opinion. She obviously plays favorites with Sheldon, and then this. About religion thing, it Really gets messed up with the whole Georgie’s baby debacle. Really, that’s the problem with religion. People can turn into little pieces of shit.
I'm just going to say it she's keeping him down no wonder they get divorced in the end granted I'm fairly certain they're divorce has more with him being a man w**** than her trying to keep him down but still
If Mary was a good wife, she'd be happy to let George Sr. Do what was best for the family but no, she is too stubborn and selfish with her obsessive behavior.
Sheldon is too smart for home schooling. And unfortunately that's the reality of things: the smarter the students the more funding the schools get. Because to the donors, having high test scores shows that the school cares for the students education. Meanwhile those who don't get high scores tells donors the schools aren't doing a good job and thus aren't worth it.
I prefer watching young Sheldon the the BBT. I dont know what happened but the older version of Sheldon is acting childish then the young Sheldon. I am also disliking Mary's character who always have to make the decision for her family, so it's partly her fault their family shuttered.
Why do Americans say you all when talking about just 2 people.. I've never got my head around that.. Do two people qualify to be referred to as you all?
