There’s a couple ways the E F# A could be interpreted. The most likely explanation, though, is that it is an F# minor 7 chord. The 5th of the chord, C#, is left out due to the fact that 5ths hold no real harmonic function. They simply give more meat to a chord, but do not change the quality, which is why they are often left out. The chord is also not in root position, with the E in the lowest voice rather than the F#.
