Elton had a beautiful, very clean voice as a young man. Now, however, he can no longer sing with the falsetto, due to an operation he has undergone on the vocal cords, but his voice is still unique, as a baritone, much darker than his young one.

Even though his voice has changed, he still gives 100% and really makes the effort to sing well. And his piano playing is magnificent!

We all know how much he misses his younger voice and wishes he could sing like he did back in the 70s. Love how he gives it 110% to be as good as he was back then now. ❤

I like Your Song with his current voice way more than the original version. His deep, smooth and powerful barritone he gained after his surgery is just perfect for his ballads

Vocally and musically i don't think he'll ever beat 1984 as he was at his peak then. I do like his older voice as it's got alot more power in it

He's always been great at working with the voice he had, young or old. Always pleasant to listen to. Only thing that slightly bothers me is that he just slurs he words the last 20 years, you can't make out what he's saying unless you know the lyrics by heart.

One has to remember that Sir Elton underwent surgery years ago to have some polyps removed, and that affected his voice. That, and he’s a recovered drug and alcohol addict- he’s been sober for over 30 years. That’s why he’s gone from a light tenor to a husky baritone more than anything else.

He's "okay"... sometimes. But overall is off key with many notes. The reality is that everyone gets old, and for sometime now he hasn't been able to sing most of his catalogue like when he was younger.

@@Johnnybomb1 ive listened to a lot of his stuff he is definitely on key in every song these days unlike the mid 70s but he does dodge notes but that comes with old age and performing most songs in original key as well.

I’m tired of people saying his surgery in 1987 removed falsetto! He used it a bit less in 1992 and got laryngitis in 1998. His voice sounds completely different which is probably due to age or just him singing in a deeper range. His voice changed in 1995 a bit but he still sounded pretty good till about late 2003. He got sick and performed a concert in Sundsvall. Thanks for the video. Just be sure to check your dates next time. Tiny Dancer came out in 1971, so that home concert could not have been in 1970. EDIT:It turns out I didn't check my facts. This was before the song officially came out😜

You make sure to check ur facts, that clip is from a tv program where he discusses song writing and gives an example by playing the early version of tiny dancer that he said he just wrote the other day. and it was then later released in 71 :)

His best time was in the 70's, the voice was amazing and the songs the best he had written, it was a slow decline from the 1980's. I find it hard to listen to his latest performances, they sound ugly compared to when he was a much younger man!

I do prefer his younger voice but I think you can attribute his later performances sounding different to how he delivers the lines not really how he sounds. Artists tend to alter their songs when performed live because they just get bored of how it’s normally sang but usually the audience is more used to the version they hear on the radio so they prefer that version. You can tell that he shortens how long he holds out each note when he’s older which makes it sound choppier and not as smooth as it sounded when he was younger. I think his older voice has a sort of power and soul behind it that his younger voice doesn’t have but sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t.

Yes but I watched Gilbert O'Sullivan someone who sold just as many records as Elton John maybe even more, his voice stayed the same but aged slightly obviously.

This is a very unfair contrast. Every musician use special effects in their voices and Elton was isolated during the pandemic with very limited resources.

Purtroppo ha iniziato ad avere problemi vocali a causa di alcool e droghe, verso la fine degli anni 80. Dopo un'operazione alle corde vocali per noduli dovuti agli abusi, ha cambiato timbro. Da tenore leggero e con un buon falsetto, è diventato baritono e senza falsetto. In ogni caso ha ancora una bella voce.

The real Reggie Dwight was replaced in 1977 in order to keep the franchise going. There have been at least 2 or 3 lookalikes and sounda likes since. The skull shape of the present " Elton John " is clearly different to that of the 23 year old " Elton John".. Do some deep research. The truth is out there.

I love Queen very much. But Elton was and is a great composer, singer and pianist. He is perhaps the most talented solo singer ever. Freddie was a great friend of Elton's... I'm loyal to Queen, but I don't have to love them alone for that. Yes, I love them above all, but I also like Elton a lot... everyone has his own tastes!

@@danyfilmusic I don't mind some of eltons songs some of them I'm not keen on if I'm honest great piano player no doubt he just seems very serious to often and lacks personality. I don't think he's the greatest solo singer no way Freddie himself had some very strong solo material also David Bowie and George Michael were stronger singers than Elton. Not many musicians play piano better than Elton I don't dislike Elton John I'm just not a fan that's all like I said I don't mind some of his songs.
