Young women describe Oranga Tamariki care 

Whenever I see cases of abuse like this it’s always a group of brave woman organising and doing something. And in this case OT also getting blamed. In the majority of cases of abuse it’s us men who inflict the abuse. And we as men should be the ones trying to do something about it, not the victims. Next time you and one of your mates say or do something disrespectful to a woman or a girl, call them out and make them aware that it’s not okay to perpetuate this culture where woman fear for there safety. We know better now guys, and don’t have to be like generations before us.

Nothing has changed since state care back in the 60s 70s the stories remain the same.

I've been dealing with OT for some 7 years now as a parent and as an advocate. They are grossly incompetent, arrogant and ignorant which leads to worse outcomes for most children and families than would have been the case were they not involved. There is absolutely an overarching intent to make themselves (OT) the central focus point and to subversively undermine families. If you haven't personally walked this path it is likely you wouldn't understand. These young woman get it. OT must be disestablished and other options should be explored and developed but not via a government agency. The government is at the core of the corruption of society, across the board.

When a plunket nurse first came to our house, she asks if we drink. I say i do and my wife said she doesn't. Then the nurse went on saying that if we both were drinkers she would take the kid away. I was like 'are u kidding me'? Dont they find it even condescending.?

💯 behind the dissolving of OT horrendously abused so many young I’ve been in the system thrived beyond it spent 24 years fighting for justice for 10 women and got it for them with the abuser hiding under OT cover ups for it’s the child’s fault … not ! He was discovered still working with kids God help us, gvt apologies without change meaningless words…. Fostered many teens independently and through the system and I know first hand they still don’t care they haven’t changed their core since the eighties when I was at the hand of their abuse in Dunedin. Working tirelessly I will never give up on children and will be independently establishing an alternative care for these precious children lost in the depths of a filthy system. The children never had a safe person to go to? Are they not taught whom to go to? Child abuse in care, or home environ, unacceptable.

Again, no mention that the abuse was perpetrated by other kids in the housing.

I know a young man who said he was abused in state care as a young child and he's only in his late 20s now.

Public employees abuse their positions with adults, so how do you think they treat children. Child care is a magnet for certain unsavioury people, not qualified and not fit for purpose, at all levels. Not just a NZ problem, it's a worldwide problem. Lack of independent overview, low requirements for employment, no stringent vetting..

isn't just females, my brother who was 3 at the time was touched, I tried to run away, I was taken back, this was also the 5th house they had put me in, each one felt like a prison, the only difference was that they had finally reunited me with my little brother in this one. I wont even get started on what I experienced in the other foster homes

Unfortunately i understand... it like these beautiful girls were talking my childhood... from 91 till 95.... i think i was in approx 15 different homes... i always had a emergency bag packed... makes me sad remembering... But girls youll get thru it and be stronger for it... One love...😊

I agree my niece and nephew getting move from there home town to move with family members who they only meet all up for a month my nephew 12 and niece is 9. Orange tamariki know that this family members has had mental health problems and her own kids have been investigated. Just because they are family they shouldn't have full rights to go. We know a great forst mum in are town, the town the kids live in so they won't have to move school or leave there close family members if any one can help me how can I stop this

The level of maturity and emotional development for empathy and compassion is highly lacking. There is no one size fits all to how survivors of abuse in state care recover or the burden of stigmas. I say any one here who makes a negative comment is frighted and insecure person and lacks backbone, no grit and wouldnt last the first minute let alone years of abuse, isolation, public stigma. In the past few years many young children have past at the hands of family / family friends so in contrast its die at the hands of a family member or suffer years of abuse in and of the system lashing out at the general public for not beholding a good standard of care.

Such a horrific carry on bad enough it happened back in time shame on this system for ignoring this continuing on it has to stop sadly our tamariki are not looked after and kept safe Kia Kaha wahine toa keep striving forward you are beautiful young woman ❤️

OT is filled with righteous egos and don't forget there are few that make a difference because the sector is not about making a difference, it's about placing children into mediocre care at best to blatant abuse from the ones OT place them with until they're old enough to fend for themselves. Some go into the job to make a difference, to make change for kids in care, but left hopeless and powerless for seeking change, for doing their job properly, cause you wouldn't want 'good' to happen in the sector now would you??!! Sarcasm. Most who have a dream of beating at the doors for change are not being heard. But for most, it's about sitting on the fence and hope consequences for it don't come their way!!? From the horror stories I've been told or read about, it's akin to child trafficking, children being used for money, with absolute power and no consequences for the torment and mistakes they make on a daily for vunerable children who just want to be somewhere safe and sound.

I think Parent education is important also. Like WHY were they needed Oranga Tamariki in the first place. Maybe instead of all this bullsht sex education at schools, maybe more PARENTING education at schools should be implemented, to try and avoid these situations in the future so parents UNDERSTAND what having a child is going to take , before they have them. If its gone back to 1999 etc and before you are talking about both National AND Labour....so if you are going to blame a SPECIFIC side you are in the wrong. The system just NEEDS improving on both sides and severe actions taken when abuse victims accuse people and investigations done and consequences carried out if shown to be true accusations. As a sexual abuse victim myself and i didnt tell anyone for over 30 years mainly because my parents allowed me to walk home from school at 5-7yrs old and its PARTLY my fault for going off with a stranger i shouldnt have done, young trusting dumb naivity, i wsa luckily it wasnt worse and it was pretty bad. Government agencies have to make sure kids have access constantly to ONE on ONE private interviews and assessments with government agency officials so they can voice any wrong doings at home. An assessment should happen every few months with EVERY child under care and given the support if they accuse the people they are with. However unfortauntely sexual abuse many times has no evidence, so you cant just arrest every person accused of sexual assault either, some people do lie if they have mental health issues.Its a complicated issue for sure.

well instead of taking kids from family they should be working with the family as a whole oh but that's far too hard isn't it . especially newborns being uplifted and brainwashed to call caregivers mum and dad its disgusting you strip them of their identity and culture and wonder why you get criminals from it. needless to say caregivers receive more financial assistance than the parents do. no one is a saint , everyone makes mistakes.
