Something Denise (Earthtones Girl) said once in a sock tutorial has always stayed with me: "It's not hard, it's just new." When you talked about trying new things and improving our knitting, that immediately came to mind. I love that you didn't see how your shawl colors totally matched your room, the colors behind you (the plants, the pots, the wall hangings, the hat, the table) and are so you. Lovely color combo. It's more beautiful than Andrea's I think! (And I hope she watches your channel and sees this episode especially!) Your smile is infectious, Kaci. Thank you for being such a joyful presence and for sharing so many beautiful makes.
You are a breath of fresh air! Love the "Hippie" colors of the shawl! Hippie, because I was in that time era! AND those overalls! Can you share where you found them! Just a wonderful way to start my day!❤
I looove your Melt shawl! I just bought a kit for this, obsessed with this look! Question - you mentioned not needing a 4th skein -- one thing I'm confused about is that the pattern mentions 2 sizes, one requiring 3 skeins and one requiring 4. But in the tester photos it seems like everyone assumed there was only one size option. I'd like to make the largest version possible, but the kit I bought is only 3 skeins - do you think that would that allow me to make the regular or the large size?
There was only one size when we tested it and I’m assuming that is size 1. honestly can’t tell you for sure but I would assume you would dip into a 4 skein
You are just so lovely, Kaci. So much inspiration in this episode, as usual. I'm very tempted to copy you and knit the Winona dress also, always have wanted to try a knitted dress but just not sure if I can pull it off, and that's a lot of knitting for an uncertain outcome! :) But it looks like its going to be so good!
So sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. I hope you took time for yourself to grieve. The video of the storm was beautiful! I love the Wonder colors in your colorwork sweater.
I just love a good thunderstorm sky. So beautiful. Also, love that dress pattern that you are going to make. It will be perfect in that color. I need to learn how to sew asap! Kim
Oh Gosh!! The last segment of your podcast was just what I needed today. Its very soothing. Your podcasts are very special because your voice calms me a lot.
I love the time at the end of your podcasts when we just make together! I'm a new spinner, so I also learned while watching you ply your singles together! Beautiful, informative, fun, relaxing!
Beautiful video! And OMG your colours again on the DRK shawl! I am not into shawls, the pattern itself is way too busy for my style and the designer's sample wouldn't have caught my eye. Seeing your sample I almost want to make it! I wont because I know I will not wear it but I might have to copy those colours for some other yet to be determined colour work project.
Can't wait to see your step by step cardigan finished. I've been saving some Madara (Sake) and I think this might be the pattern! If you ever wanted to try the setup rows for a tubular bind off again, I found Suzanne Bryan's video to be extremely helpful. Her instruction to go down needle size for the last row before italian sewn, as well as for tubular setup rows has truly neatened up my bind offs 👍
I’ve been thinking about doing that since I always go down a needle size for the set up rows when casting on. But I’m happy with the couple of extra rows I don’t end up needing to do haha. Lazy knitter!
when you were saying your shawl was giving you 60s vibes i was like nooooo it's so 70s and cool, and then when you said you changed your mind that it was giving 70s vibes and you loved it i was like YES! love your denim jumpsuit btw.
Hi Kaci! Love your channel! Mother Knitter is actually my local yarn shop and they could not be friendlier! I was just there yesterday and I saw that new Sandnes Garn as I was checking out. I'm going to watch and see how you like it and maybe I'll buy some next time I'm there.
I’ve been obsessed with the Pohjola pullover since seeing yours - was already on my radar from Instagram - but I’ve now started mine using some long held stash as MC and some new CC’s. Have joined in on Sari’s forum and will post on Insta when I’ve made a bit more progress. Love your aesthetic and share the ‘loose knitter’ gene 👭🏻
Sitting here watching these storms and tornadoes go across Arkansas and wondering exactly where your are in the state. It went just north of us here in Hot Springs but hit Hot Springs Village. Hope your safe! Love that shawl!! Beautiful color selection as usual! I have no interest in spinning but found that segment very relaxing and enjoyable watching you and listening to the lovely music you selected. Be blessed!!
Hi I enjoy watching you, I am in New Zealand and we are currently heading into the colder months. I knit mostly baby and children items for charity. Which I love heaps, I am keen to knit a couple of items for myself for the winter.
On the subject of learning new skills, I would add to look at different methods people use. I tried to take a craftsy class to learn how to knit continental (for colorwork purposes) and the instructor was pretty set on you holding the yarn one way and my hands hated it no matter how much practice I gave it. I started watching different youtubers and finally found a method that seems to be working! I also got Knitting the National Parks hat pattern book and those are SUPER fun, short practice projects 😊
I didn’t like the Melt shawl until I saw yours. So beautiful. Dare I try it if I’ve not done Brioche. Well I tried a hat and don’t know how to fix my mistake but I do understand how to do it. What do you think?
When I tuck the end of a scarf or shawl, I secure them under the wrap with a banana hair clip ( appropriate size). Keeps the piece in place and doesn’t pierce the fabric in a damaging way.
Another great podcast, so I was a little on the edge about the melt shawl but seeing yours i might just have to try it. So nice job 😊 thank you for telling us about the extra skein of yarn that does make a difference in the price.
Fabulous shawl!! Ps Degen sells a notions tool for weaving in ends and it works so well on projects like these (just used it for the Stephen west mkal shawl, which also has a million ends to weave in)
I just got the melt shawl pattern you featured in this episode but I want to do it in one color since I’ve never done brioche and all the ends. Would the brioche technique be the same??
She has you do this in a where you knit the rows on the front twice and then the rows on the back twice because you are using different colors. If you are familiar with brioche and comfortable switching it to single color brioche you could do that. Or attach a second ball and just follow the instructions as if it were two colors
I loved this podcast episode as always! Thank you for spending your time and creativity to bring us joy. 💙 The last clip with the song was beautiful. Would you mind sharing the name of the song? :)
Loved this episode. Andrea really is amazing. I can’t wait to see the dress when it’s done! I hoped you guys faired well in the intense storms and tornado watches/warnings tonight (Thursday). 🌷🌸🌻🌹
@@YoungfolkKnits we live between Marshall and Yellville and had such intense winds we wonder if we got sideswiped by whatever hit Flippin in front of Ranger Boats. Ugh. Blessed beyond measure. Glad you guys are safe too. 🌻
I love your shawl! blue and orange is one of the color combos I only discovered after I started knitting, and I cant believe I spent most of my life thinking they don't work together! the spinning scene is just... perfec. is it sped up? or do wheels really spin this fast? I only have a drop spindle so it kinda fells like your wheel is going in Warp speed LOL
What a fantastic way to start out a Thursday morning by watching this video ☺️ you are selling me that shawl!! I absolutely love the colors and how you style it ❤
I used Tykk Line for my Montpellier Top. It was lovely to work with but I could not make my gauge work and I still find it too heavy to wear the tank in the Summer here.
I was hoping you’d say that. Normally, I’d go for the largest shawl; but, yours looked like a nice size. Not sure about all those ends though (I cry easily 😉). Is there a reason why the unused yarns can’t be carried along?
Love the colors of your DRK Melt Shawl. I also really like your lipstick color and jumpsuit. You make spinning look so easy. I need to get my spinning together!
My heart warms when I hear your lovely voice say "Hello, y'all." Thank you for such lovely podcasts! The knitting is wonderful and so are the gorgeous music and stunning photography. Thank you for serene moments...
Another lovely video Kaci! Your shawl is gorgeous. Does she advise cutting the yarn every time? I feel like you could just carry it up inside the icord and save all those ends to deal with! I am also doing the Pohjola and loving it so much. I do the colorwork exactly the same way you are. I remind myself that this doesn’t have to be a rush! Take your time and enjoy the process. You are also getting very good at saying “Pohjola” 😊. And one final thing…what is that song you play at the end of the video? I LOVE it. Thanks!
The colors in that melt shawl are definitely YOUR COLORS!😂 Love how that Noro yarn is working up. Can't wait to see your dress in that pretty blue!! Have a good week❤
Oké that shawl is beautiful 🤩 I just paused the video and had to grab the pattern 😂. What size did you make? Now I just have find the right yarn or dye my own colors. Oké play the video 😊 Beautiful music at the end❤
Hey Kaci, I'm knitting the pohjola as well, and I'm holding both the colours that require knitting in my left hand at the same time (laid over my finger with a bit of a space between them) and the colour that requires purling in my right. That way, I don't need to put any of the yarns down and I can stay speedy. It might not work for you, but perhaps worth a try? :) Your colours are so beautiful and I can't wait to see your finished sweater.
The first thing I thought seeing your shawl was that it’s very 70’s and it fits your style perfectly 🤩 what you said about unfamiliar things hit me hard because it is so true in every situation
🌴☀️I really love the colors of your shawl. I must admit the challenges with FOMO as a maker. I spend about $4k-6k on average a yr buying mainly hand dyed yarns & as a woman with curves I think I may be low balling that amount. But so far this year I’ve made significant progress & have purchased ZERO yarn. The cost is staggering & every video I watch of whom I’m subscribed to always has a beautiful yarn which, is almost always already sold out, especially made for “that maker”, is $40 a skein & I need 4 or 5 skeins or is no longer produced. I am so proud of myself for exercising restraint, that’s why I love love love Wool and the Forest podcast because she supports one’s efforts to not consume “as much” as we may tend to do at times. I love seeing all the wonderful things knitting podcasters have managed to add to their stash but sometimes, like today it’s so very tempting to not click the buy button, a sensation I’m trying to conquer. You mentioned dyers don’t really make significant profits, but alas, MAKERS these days get nothing but Thor’s hammer. Thanks for another stunning video. Thanks for taking the time to even feel like doing it, for thinking of a topic, for pressing record, for editing, the photography, music, time away from your family, the WiFi costs, waiting for the down/uploads…THANK YOU DEAR MAKER☀️🌴
This is such an important topic. I have so many thoughts on it - first and foremost that being financially responsible is most important! I’m so proud of you and I myself am trying to do better about not buying just because It’s something I want but don’t need. I do feel a bit of a difficult situation in the fact that I am often paid to review or discuss products therefore I am (by the nature of the job) going to be showing products often. I do want to be conscious of supporting goals of less spending and consumerism tho! Thank you for watching my podcast I do appreciate it so much
@@YoungfolkKnits 🌴☀️Oh WOW 🥹 thanks so much for acknowledging my challenge, I’m nearly crying but also smiling from ear to ear💗 you are so appreciated, thank you for responding I am quite touched. Wishing you & all things that matter to you peace, safety, abundance & tranquility xoxo☀️🌴
@@YoungfolkKnits Cool, I will check that out. It looks similar to one of my favorites - Italian Rose from Bobbi Brown in the Crushed Lip Color. You might like that one too.
I think it was in last year's Westknits MKAl that Stephen showed a method for carrying up a colour up the side of a shawl by concealing it in the i-cord edging... I wonder if that would work for this shawl, especially if the two CCs are single-row stripes, which would mean you could hide one colour in each edge.
