Have you ever questioned if your big adventure bike really makes any difference? Are you looking for the most powerful adventure bike? Or the best middleweight adventure bike?
Well, I took my 150cc Lambretta scooter on an adventure to show that its not the bike, it's the moment. Have you ever taken a scooter off road? it's a lot of fun!

Thank you for this. As I have commented before, I did this 48 years ago with a neighbors lambretta in the Mojave Desert, just because. It worked surprisingly well. That shield in front of your legs will protect you, if it doesn't explode. Flop over at moderate speed, just step off. That ultra-low center of gravity makes picking it up a piece of cake. More fun than should be allowed. A true adventure. life is great.

Haha.... "if it doesn't explode" 😂. They're surprising effective off road, aren't they?! Apart from the lack of ground clearance of course. Hope you're well Mate 👍🏻

I stuck a tent & sleeping bag and various bits and bobs on a Honda XL175 with knobblies and did 12,000 trouble free miles around the US and Canada. Got laughed at fewer times than I was treated to free meals and accommodation, and had a hoot! Best thing was it was easy to pick up when I fell off! Small is good!

Tis true. Met a bunch of folks on big BMW's at Grand Canyon, their monsters parked up beside my teeny trail bike. By that time I'd done 6k miles and they were astonished so invited me for dinner in their luxury hotel and paid for all my food and drink! Another day sitting on the bike in a gas station poring over a map after being chased off the freeway bi Calif Highway Patrol (for going too slow!) a group of Hells Angels rumbled in, filled up and walked about. One strode straight for me and couldn't believe that I was touring on the Honda, hooted with laughter then called his pals over who all slapped me on the back and then invited me to join them on a ride and go to a party! That was the sort of thing that happened all the time, with passing drivers, ranchers, road crews, bikers and all sorts. :-) @@lightweightadv

@@lightweightadv I was working on a caravan park in Pitlochry, Scotland for 6 months last summer cleaning toilets. Living in my camper van with the cub on the back. We went on lots of trips into the Cairngorms. Its not as cool as a Vespa or a C90 but actually pretty capable. I am in the process of doing a more modern fuel injected version - ULEZ compliant. Put the wheels with nobbly tyres, screen, usb charging, copilot, carrier for two fuel cans (400mile range?) tool carriers. I’m using stuff I had taken off adventure bikes. Should have it done next week or so and aiming to get to wales and North Yorkshire before Easter. Off road where I can find it. TET?? I lived and worked in India had a few bikes. But my favourite trip was buying two TVS Heavy Duty 100cc 4 stroke (£900 total cost) and touring south India with my then 18 year old son……his choice as he thought they were cool. That converted me. In India you get passed on big bikes on back roads by local families (4 people) on 125s…..hilarious

Huge thumbs up from me latley I've noticed a real push towards elitism in Adventure Motorcycling from some of the bigger channels n figures in Adventure motorcycling if its not the most insane enduro trip it doesn't count or if its not the lightest bike or the most tech laden bike etc. Even something as daft as people having a go because someone's using panniers n quipping they are not on an adventure that's just some of the utter rubbish I've seen latley. Trying to gatekeep in adventure riding and what it means through a narrow definition through one person's perspective. I think adventure is many different things to many different people and what we all need to remember if you are having fun that's all that matters. I've had memories and adventures on everything from a 1927 Norton to a 84' reg 250lc that I used to do 2k Miles a week on a 67 Norton 650ss that I daily rode for 4 years n 4 winters. Every bike just adds a different flavour a different experience that's all :) an the same for trips. I think there's enough gate keeping in the world as it is an we don't need it creeping into the world of Adventure Motorcycling. Let's encourage each other no matter the bike or the trip let's celebrate the sheer joy and fun of riding motorcycles. Be it a trip to Starbucks or somewhere else. I think alot of the time everyone views the world through there own lenses or own capabilities. N what we have to remember is that one person's easy is anothers everest n rather than putting them down let's celebrate each others achievements. Just getting out the door can be the biggest challenge to overcome to some an thats speaking from someone who struggled deeply with that in the past. An when famous figures come out with comments rubbishing certain things or certain trips as a holiday n not an adventure all it does is discourage not encourage especially when that adventure might be the achievement of a lifetime to someone we all start at different points we are all at different places in life nothing is for sure or guaranteed. At one point every single one of us couldn't ride a motorcycle or use a clutch. People forget that an it's a shame. Ride what you have have fun go on the adventure you want n don't let anyone else define that. That's my biggest lesson I've learnt in life. Find adventure going to Starbucks that's OK 👍 find it in the furthest corner of the earth down a track that's OK 👍 a 50cc or a 1200cc it all counts an just remember fun is the key not what anyone else thinks :) an I think this video is absolutely brilliant. The more we all talk about this the better. With the brands pushing more tech, more expensive 28k fully specc'd GS's i think more n more will look at other alternatives for alot of us 7k is a hekkin lot of money let along 28k. I personally went from a 2018 1200gs te Rallye which i had to sell to help my dad with bills, to a 300 Rally (with a himmy inbetween that got rejected) to a 20 year old 1150gsa when i realised i didnt enioy green laning an it wasnt my idea of adventures at that time. Im having more fun with the 1150gsa an theres not a single thing i cant repair on it myself an it was less than the depreciation on a new GS by year 2 even with the repairs. I think though theres a place for all aproaches but i do wish companies would focus on the easy to fix afforable stuff. Looking back at the older bikes they had that for them from 1927 up to the early 2000's. If one person gets inspired to just have fun on a motorcycle n find there own definition of adventure riding that's all that matters :)

Hey man, really well put. I'm not sure people really belive all that they say when speaking about others and their adventures. I wonder if sometimes they're just repeating the marketing that they have been fed 🤷🏻‍♂️. Regardless, you're right, we should just enjoy what we have, because it's the adventure and the moment, not the bike 👊🏻😎

@lightweightadv Strange isn't it. When we were kids we called an off road bike and "Scrambler" and my bike literally has that written on the side. Though adventure isn't only off road is it. I think "let's see where that road goes" is the start of a bit of an adventure isn't it?

Now, wonder how I can put soft luggage on it and fit it out. Want to do Europe first. Cheers from Sweden

I have a '73 CT90 trail. Top speed on the level - 45mph. Crusing speed - 35 to 40. It will take you a while to get there on the road, just enjoy it. When you hit the trail that low dual range trany will take you anywhere and I mean ANYWHERE. The monster machines will hate your guts. If it was possible, I would let you borrow mine for the UK TET. Was lucky to do various cross-country adventures in India a few years ago, and bike-wise it was taking what you could get as a means to an end. Thoroughly enjoyed off roading on multiple scooters, 9 hour days on a 220cc cruiser on highways, tearing across the Rann of Kutch on a Himalayan, Classic 350 in the Himalayas and Kerala...the limits of the bike were just part of the adventure for sure.
