Hello friends!
I hope you're all doing very well and reading some wonderful books!
Recently, I talked about how I've been in a very long reading slump. Thanks to your advice and some strategies of my own, I can happily say that my reading slump is over!!! YAY :)
I thought that, for those of you who may also be struggling with a reading slump now or in the future, I'd make a video to try and help!
Here is a compilation of different things we can all do if we ever find ourselves in the deadly grasp of a reading slump!
I'd love to know if you have any other advice or suggestions, so feel free to share that in a comment!
Thank you to everyone who participated in this video! I appreciate your help and advice immensely :)
Best wishes,
Carolyn (& Willow) Marie :)

Great ideas to cure a slump. Another is to volunteer to read to children for story time at your local library. Children are so happy and enthusiastic and and make it a wonderful experience. I would love you to make more videos like this! 😀

Related to smelling books advice I also just open random books in my shelves! I just look at them and see the words, It doesn't really instantly help, but it surely comforting for me that I still adore books and literature even if its just the sight of it :DD

The prove that I've been in a reading slump is the fact that I'm just watching this video now when I usually don't miss one of your videos 😭 I've been almost completely away from bookish content. The thing is, I'm in a book club and I read the books we choose to read there but I can't pick one for myself to read. I've been so busy and worried about a lot of things and when I'm at home I grab my phone and spend my evening like that. But I will try some of these advices because I truly miss the feeling of reading and the happiness that that gives me. Thank you as always and thanks to all that wonderful people that wrote those tips ❤

I think talking about your favorite book makes you excited about reading other books so you can be more familiar with them and talk about them as well!

For me it's finding something to read that I am passionate bout rather than just feeling like I should want to read it...Sounds are no good. Listening to books also helps when too tired to read. But I feel you, writing drains one's brain, for me it's working on a better schedule and making me do it, whatever it is, if I want to or not. Bellatrix L

Love this type of videos and your final reflections. It’s not so easy these days to just enjoy things with all the book social media community of people showing off their 200 reads a year. That’s not attainable for everyone even book lovers and that’s okay 🥰

I recently discovered this video, and with that your wonderful channel! Everything you said was beautifully put, and it has truly motivated me to not only pick up a book and read but rather also enjoy reading. It truly is a privilege that is meant to be enjoyed. Thank you for reminding me of that

Yay! My suggestion made it! The reading in nature suggestion is so good! I always read so much more in the summer because I can be outside (and probably because I'm not in school lol). I just finished a hundred page excerpt of On Revolution by Hannah Arendt for class and finally feel like I have the headspace to go back to the Dickens and Tolstoy I'm in the middle of!

I try a lot of these different "medicines" when I'm on a reading slump! I re-read a favourite book or a children's book (Actually, a lot of my favourite books are children's books!), I watch reading vlogs and book reviews, or just try a shorter book or short stories and poems! All of these strategies work wonders with me!

Thank Dr Carolyne, your prescription worked perfectly for me. The great debate " Dickens against Tolstoy" cured my reading slump perfectly, I am now in the process to read all the Dickens novels. For Tolstoy, I will wait a little longer, but your enthusiasm is making me consider giving him another chance. Congratulation on all your work.

I read 2 books at a time. I spend around an hour a day reading. I read a chapter of each book. I can't read for more than an hour a day. I'm reading a victorian book and a more slice of life modern book from the 1950s. I recommend reading more than one genre.

Honestly ,the most effective tip is to take a break. Reading is supposed to be a pleasure, but if its becoming tedious, then give yourself some time. The feeling passes in some days then youll pick up another book. Forcing ourselves when we dont want to read, can also make the slump much worse.

This is a bit like the extended version of what is already told in this video. I put in bookmarks in my book. Right now I have a library book I need to return in 8 days. The book is 360 pages. I put in bookmarks every 45 pages give or take with chapters and all. Then I feel like it's more manageable. And if I really like it I won't let the bookmarks stop me :)

I'm writing a novel too so sometime I analyse too much the book. And I try read my favorite mangas after that I feel less in book analysis mode. And I'll wait. Sometime I draw and I want to read a story that could correspond.

Thx, tho I think that sometimes I need a few days to process. Of course, usually I'm in the midst of an enormous project, so most of the time I just power thru the slump. However, balance in life is important and that can mean skating or going to the ballgame, or dare I say it? Just watch a movie on the tv.

When something huge goes down (death, divorce, suicide) your best bet for getting out of your reading slump or even your mind set is to think of topics you loved as a child and see movies about this topic until you find the one which might be a great book. As a kid, I loved vampires and so what got me out of an 8 year reading slump was "Let the Right One In" which is Swedish and so actually "Let Den Ratte, Komma In."
@escapedscienceexperiement9824
@escapedscienceexperiement9824 2 года назад
Let is låt which means more, "allow"! so technically the translated title is "allow the right one through" which doesnt really roll off the tongue ha 😀
@ReligionOfSacrifice
@ReligionOfSacrifice 2 года назад
@@escapedscienceexperiement9824, the exact translation would be "Let the Right, Come In" but it wasn't translated that way. Let and allow being similar.

Hey :) Dostoevsky opus has 6600 pages. If you read one minute per page that is 6600 minutes or 110 hours. Two minutes per page is 220 hours. How fast do you read? :)

@CarolynMarieReads
@CarolynMarieReads 2 года назад
Yes! I think the best advice I can give is to have a normal work schedule like you're not home but at an office. Have that be your "work hours" to try and separate work time and home time. Also it helps me a lot to have my own office/studio space. If you're able to, finding a space to make your work area is very beneficial. I hope this helps :)

Try reading short stories or poems. When I've been through a slump and I have for a long time ....picking up something short and easy opens me up to reading again. Picking up a 300 page or more book even though it's something I know I will love just feels overwhelming sometimes.
