It’s probably coccidiosis from the chicks previous environment or now in your soil. TSC may give your money back. Switch to unmedicated feed and buy a bottle of Corid. Get more chicks. Mix a couple of capsules of human probiotic in a gallon of warm water and moisten the chick crumble before you feed each day. Watch for bloody diarrhea or failure to thrive and add the spoonful of Corid to the gallon of water and moisten their feed with it each day. Works best if your prepared and act quickly.

What are your tips for sneezing chickens? What do you use to prevent it and is there anything you can do when they sneeze? When it’s too bad antibiotics are the only way of course, but what if they’re not badly sick but the sneezing also doesn’t go away?

Hi Dalia, I’m April. I bought the arsenicum and the rock rose to have on hand but I’m not even sure how much to give them. Is the arsenicum safe to give the chickens when they have diarrhea? And how do I use these if my chicken is dying and I want to help her along? I really need help and more details

I have 2 large 8x8 cages linked together with 2 coops inside of them. In the winter my chickens will not go into the coops and just perch up on the branches I put in the cages, and I'm concerned about their health staying out in the cold. I tried taking the branches out, hoping they would go into the coops but they just get on top of the coops and roost on the roof. I keep the coops clean and dry but they just will not go in unless they are laying eggs. How do I get them to stay in the coop where its warmer?

I just recently got my first chickens (Buff Orpington 15) and I just moved them into the Coop/Run. I got 15 because I was am expecting some predation or death, as I understand the reality of it. They all survived there first 6 weeks and yesterday I moved them to their Coop/Run. They don't seem to want to go into the coop at night and just want to sleep out in the run. I have physically put them in the coop last night and tonight. Is there some trick to teaching them that the coop is bedding/sleeping area?

It's been several days since I watched this video, and I had to come back to leave a comment. A little backstory (I'll try to keep it short) is that I discovered you 3ish years ago when I was beginning to plan for my first flock. I devoured your videos, took your online course, bought your book, and just simply love your humor and approach to keeping chickens. Not only have you helped me learn so much, but I feel that the success of my flock is largely in part to everything I have learned from you, here in Chickenlandia. Including something you always say, which is to trust my gut, because I know my flock best. Fast Forward to 5 days ago, I watched this video, and absorbed what you were saying about helping a dying chicken. Later that same day, out of the blue and with seemingly no warning or symptoms, my sweet Buff (Tammy) passed away on my lap - She had been "off" all day, and though I observed nothing wrong with her, my gut told me she was headed out. I told her it was ok to go, and thanks to what you shared about chicken death in this video, I knew what to expect. As sad as it was, I felt your encouragement and energy with me, like that video was posted that specific day just for me to see. It was my first loss in 3 years with these birds, I guess I just needed to thank you for (unknowingly) helping me through it with your compassion, your content, and your willingness to share. It matters. ♥

In a flock of around 15 birds, would you say that losing 5 birds over the course of 4 yrs to wasting would be considered normal loses, or indicative of visceral Mareks? Also, I have some birds in my flock that have strange voices - they don't make the usual chicken noises and instead squeak and croak. Do you know of anything that may affect their voices? (4 birds are 18wk old chicks, and 2 birds are 3yr old adults - all have had the weird voices since they lost their chick chirps).

What a great video! I'm so grateful that I found your channel a few months back when we started our flock 🥰 My daughter got 20 chickens about a month before we got our 8 sweet ladies that we love to spoil rotten, and we both absolutely love having them 😁 We both just finished building their custom coops (we went a bit overboard on ours 😂) and are in the home stretch on finishing the runs. My daughter's are already laying and ours are just about to start. We can't wait to be gifted with some fresh eggs for all our hard work & love 🐔 Also, thank you so much for the 15% off on their feed! What a blessing 💖 We care a great deal about the quality of their feed and after researching many products & companies, Scratch & Peck organic topped my trust meter for ensuring optimal health & enjoyment for the girls as well as delivering high nutrition & quality in their eggs for us... Which is why it's the only brand we'll give them. Thank you again 🤗 Have a beautiful, happy, blessed day Dalia ☺️🙏🏼 Btw: I just ordered two copies of your book 📖 One for me and one for my daughter. I think this video hit the spot in what we're looking for, my heart is in my throat, and I love the way you explain these things clearly and with compassion. While a lot of creators love to talk about the birth of their animals, talking about their death is also equally important and I admire that you've gone in that direction. Do I have chickens? No, but I think about having them much later in life (like thirty-plus years) it's always good to research and you've touched on points in this video and the other videos you've made that I can't find anywhere online it's so important to keep talking about the importance of chicken keeping and the long run of it.

I would put her in an area where she can still see the flock and the flock can see her but she doesn't have to walk far at all for food and water. She needs to be off that leg as much as possible so it can heal. You can a couple of pellets of Arnica 30c in her water until it improves. I’m just over a month into chicken keeping and this channel has been an amazing resource. Picking up your book for a stocking stuffer this year! My mixed flock of 5 is very appreciative, they run to me every morning for their fermented food😂 it’s been the best way to gain their trust and bond with them. I just finished the framing on their run extension with your chicken salad bar inside as well. All that to say thank you!

Ive had two silkies just die in the night, (three weeks apart), no apparent reason. I watched back on my chicken cam and they just stop breathing. No sign of illness. My silkies are sooooo spoiled. Clean, well cared for. I’m at a loss. Why could this have happened?

Aww I'm so sorry. It's likely some kind of genetic thing and nothing you're doing/not doing. Make sure there's nothing they might be getting into that could be hurting them. If you lose another, you might consider getting a necropsy done. Sounds like you're taking very good care of them!

Hi there, not sure if you’re aware that there are radio frequencies in the environment, even at night that sometimes directly harm particular animals. It can cause them to stop breathing if hit with a frequency.

@@WelcometoChickenlandia thank you. Definitely nothing getting in, they are triple protected. Electric fence included. With chicken cams to watch. I think it might be the heat. But I also have a fan in there. I just didn’t know if there might be some sort of silent disease I was unaware of. Thank you for all your chicken education! You’re the best!

How do chickens get an whole nest of eggs to sit on? My girls only lay one egg at a time, but I see broody girls sitting on a bunch! Does 'breeding' cause them to lay a bunch at once? I'm so confused.. 🤔

They lay one a day in the same nest and then when they have a "clutch," they begin to sit on and incubate them. ❤️

… and other birds do this too. I have juncos that make nests on my porch each year. They come and add one egg to it each day until they have about 4, then they begin to sit on them. Once the eggs get warm enough they’ll begin development, that way they are all the same age and hatch around the same time.

Thank you, D! I always wondered, and could not find that referenced specifically! I don't have a rooster, and I pick the eggs daily. Now, I know- if one gets with a rooster, don't pick them up, and when she sits on them, then candle them.. 😁👍

The Egg came first! Laid by something not exactly a chicken. Only figured this out at 44yrs...

Actually, the chicken came first. God didn’t create eggs and embryos, he created animals and humans….
