If I could, I'd be your little spoon And kiss your fingers forevermore But, big spoon, you have so much to do And I have nothing ahead of me You're the sun, you've never seen the night But you hear its song from the morning birds Well, I'm not the moon, I'm not even a star But awake at night I'll be singing to the birds Don't wait for me, I can't come Your mother wouldn't approve of how my mother raised me But I do, I think I do And you're an all-American boy I guess I couldn't help trying to be your best American girl You're the one You're all I ever wanted I think I'll regret this Your mother wouldn't approve of how my mother raised me But I do, I finally do And you're an all-American boy I guess I couldn't help trying to be the best American girl Your mother wouldn't approve of how my mother raised me But I do, I think I do
I'm apart of the POC community and this songs describes almost everything that I've been feeling lately, i can't express in words abt how i truly appreciate this song
As someone who’s mixed, im so sorry about everyone whose apart of the poc/woc. You are loved, and i’ll love you no matter what your skin color is. Don’t let anyone tell you that you are not valid.
I'm not part of the poc community but i love this song and wish it was better recognized. And to poc - I love you, you're beautiful and amazing and deserve to be treated as such.
I'm not POC, and I never will claim to understand your guys struggles, this is just my interpretation of this song (not denying what the original meaning is): I grew up in an abusive home (still am in it), this song reminds me of the suffering I've went through. Specifically the line: "Your mother wouldn't approve of the way my mother raised me", my mom is physically, emotionally and psychologically abusive, many mothers wouldn't approve of her parenting. Again, I'm not trying to change what the song is meant to be about, I'm just sharing my view of the lyrics.
@@calamariseven4088 um yes it does matter who can relate to it… white people can’t relate to this song this is literally a song for poc? if you listen to this lyrics or have watched the official music video then you would know that this song is about wanting to be white, etc.
@@lluvviv3780 its not about wanting to be white, its a love song. mitski is singing about someone she's in love with who is american and white and she's lamenting the fact that they can never truly understand each other and how their culture keeps them apart, ie. "your mother wouldnt approve of how my mother raised me" and how she's going to regret this relationship even though she's truly in love. It's definitely still about race but it's not so much about wanting to be white. Sorry this was long, I just really like this song!!!
@@sunny-qk3uk this was what i meant to say, i just couldn’t explain it that well, sorry abt that🙁 my point was that white ppl cannot relate to the song bc it was specifically made for poc
