It's actually an ingenious weapon designed to make your foe believe his metal armor will be enough to stop him from being cut, without ever realizing he's actually facing a mace.
@@midorithefestivegardevoir6727 I don’t know this show. Was he supposed to make a blade that was sharp without sharpening? I don’t know of a single hobbyist blade maker that wouldn’t spend hours sharpening the blade if it was supposed to cut anything. This show seems dumb.
@@MarcosElMalo2 its forged in fire, where people make specific blades out of limited materials in a small amount of time, yes they are given a sharpener and Howard did not use it
@@MarcosElMalo2 That's the thing, the show isn't about Hobbyist blade makers, it's about metalworkers who make a specific item. So it's reasonable that someone would completely forget you are supposed to sharpen the blade, because he probably isn't that interested in making swords, he could be an artist for all we know.
To be fair, Howard did pretty well for the previous test which his blade was tested against a helmet, which I noticed that his blade caused deeper dents as compared to the others. But again, this show is not about what your blade does to the armor, it's about what the armor does to your blade, farewell my friend.
Damage, the test is to see if you blade is tough enough to hit something hard and not break, some blades do break in that kind of test, snap right in half.
@@lucidnode you're meant to design blades for those specific tests in the first two rounds. that and you're given blade specifications. a katana is too long for those rounds. for the third: both contestants would be competing against each other's version of the same weapon.
You are told what tests will be done before you start making a blade, so you know what it needs to be able to do, if they say"we will hit a block of ice" then you know how tough your blade needs to be.
@@vitoremanuel5005 I'd use those instead of they, and the bigger a sword is, the more leverage you have on the handle, which is really bad since the sword will get unusable if the center of gravity is too far from the handle, the heavier the sword is, the heavier you should make the hilt and the handle to counteract the weight.
@@DrakyHRT That's a very good point, since with that factor, the swings, which already aren' the best on terms of accuracy, would just get worse, although even with the wheigh fix, those weapons could still use a relative mass and gravity itself for a grater destructive hit, I guess that's why I love greatswords, they have so much power just by beeing bigger and heavy lmao
I actually had a "sword" like this when I was a kid, the neighborhood bad influence made it for me out of a flattened section of pipe, and while it couldn't cut a damn thing, what it was incredible at was *breaking* stuff. Better than the machete that my grandfather inexplicably let me borrow
The reason for that phrase is cause when you're cooking a dull knife will slide off wrong and chop your fingers off whereas a sharp one will just go straight down
A dull knife can lead to a much messier, brutal swing, tearing and roughly gashing. Less effective for cutting, less efficient, but is incredibly painful and can prolong suffering. The pillow, however, feels no pain. It cannot suffer.
It's not backwards, it just has a tall back and he swings it side ways so it looks like he hitting it with the flat edge, he using the right side dw : )
@@marty7635 Yeah, if that's what they're going for, they need to be a bit thicker. I mean, it won't stop quality with solid strikes and proper technique, but it should offer some amount of resistance.
Aesthetically maybe. Gambeson is INCREDIBLY effective against blades. Heavy gambesons can stop longbow arrow shots, which are FAR more effective at piercing through padded armor than a cutting edge. This test is nothing like a layered gambeson.
*Howard's sword:* Dull but possibly can give *Concussion* or *Bonecrushed* status. Concussion: Inflict Confusion and lower defense by 75%. Bonecrushed: HP decrease by 1% for every turn.
The notification for this was "huge blade is weak and now my d" soo... Knowing Charles I was pretty surprised when I found out the rest wax "my day is ruined"
This blade is actually of the same type as Tenseiga in the InuYasha universe. Although it cannot cut physically, you’d see that the soul of the pillow was actually sliced in 4 if you look really closely.
If you actually look carefully enough you'll see that he just fuckin' hit the pillow not tried to slice it the fact it did any damage at all in that situation is impressive
Hey, real talk, that show was mad underrated. It was so cool seeing random douches forging weapons and seeing who made it better. They even put some style in it sometimes.
I'm not sure what's happening, but I've got the comments from 'forged in fire' on a video about Tsuyu Asui having a snake gf, and I have no idea where this will end up-
Thing looks like some handmade wasteland Legion machete, no a mantle piece, i think this guy had no idea what he was actually doing and tried to play it off like he makes art...which he doesn't...
