Here's another tip for you guys: get yourself a nice coffee table with a drawer element! It's a life saver. I have one, it's very stylish, elegant, and it has a deep drawer for all the junk because life is messy and we need storage! Especially us who live in small spaces.

Another very important consideration...especially when you have friends over for drinks...make sure the coffee table is within reach so if they want to set their drinks down they can without having to really reach (avoids people spilling things too)

My coffee table is a thrift ed oval table with my eccentric thrifted finds. A jar of farmer's market sunflowers. Love fresh cut over fake. Large ceramic bull terrior I named Spuds. Green glass bowl, a candle and some coasters. Occasionally there might be a Siamese or calico cat hanging out there, depends on the mood. They like hanging out with Spuds.

I have a very small square living room. I also a have large scale rectangle (hung vertically) framed print on one wall and a round artisan crafted copper and glass piece of art above the fireplace, square side table and a rectangle area rug. So I wanted to break up the straight lines of the sofa, print, rug, side table and fireplace and chose a two tier, rod iron and wood ROUND coffee table. I absolutely love the effect and how the iron ties in with my fireplace art piece . I love the design and shape of the table, it looks like art in my eyes. And I am somewhat of a minimalist and don't like my decor to look too contrived. So I have one candle on my table. I love decorative candles because not only do they serve a function, they work as a decorative accessory too.

I think what she is talking about Squidge is that if you look at the table from the top, The items should not form an equilateral triangle, meaning that the triangle formed should not have any equal sides, in plan view. That way it is more interesting, and from all sides it looks a little different. Try it and you will see.

Hey Lisa, I was thinking baskets are your buddies, but I guess they aren't for a coffee tables. jeje. TBH I'm at a loss my future Mexican Contemporary home's combined Kitchen-dining-living space (which I'll probably also have a hammock to sleep in or sofa-bed in) will only be 13x4 meters and 1/3 of the space will be the kitchen with an awesome peninsula which will be a great eating/prep/work space. I just don't see how I can fit a coffee table in the space before the TV at the other end since I still need some space to walk through to the bathroom and stairs to the roof garden space. wow long description. Help!

Just an amateur chiming in here, but not everyone needs a coffee table. My main living/entertaining space doesn’t have one. What you need is some place to rest a beverage or a book. If that’s a coffee table, great, but it could also be a side table, a cart, or even an extended shelf. It’s all about what will work in your specific space!

I have a glass table( loved deco it) nothing at the bottom cause it would take away from my beautiful print rug); but the top is filled with three trays: middle tray is beautiful flower and four candles. Tray on end left is small gift from granddaughter, and tray on right is small vase in middle and coasters surrounding it, I love to design and decorate, but never pursued it as a career. When I decorate, I make sure things go together and sometimes set apart like a special color that’s a wow factor. I also change thins around that works better from another room to give each section class! (Like my dining area, sofa area, TV area, kitchen area, and especially the entryway. My entryway has 2 lamps on each side, flat mirror in middle surrounded by small circular glass candles, a medium picture of my only granddaughter poses, and a wedding photo on left and another wedding photo of my sons wedding. Under the table is 2 medium nature photos and last but not least I have 2 large nature plants on each side of entryway table. Every time I pass by, the only thing missing is 2 small chairs on each side of table(and this section will be complete). Love your visuals. Thank you,

I used to love having the old Andy Warhol's Interview Magazines on the coffee table. They were such vivid and artistic covers. Made you look very sophisticated too (I really bought them for the cover...rarely read them...lol) Question...what do people think about stacks of coasters on a coffee table? I put them there because I want people to use them, and found some really nice vivid hand painted ones that I think add to whats on the table. Some people think its rude to have coasters out (I'm not in that camp)
@LisaHoltDesign
@LisaHoltDesign 3 года назад
Scott!! Great question - as long as they look intentional with the decor I think it is fine.. Lots of the example photos I showed had ashtrays on them so if you're going to be using the coaster as both a decorative piece and it's functional, that's amazing!! 👍🏼

Great video! But I was hoping you'd mention a table with glass, chrome and mirror😂. Yup, mine is a chrome framed, glass tip and mirror bottom shelf. Anything I put on the top reflects on the mirror below😢. No idea what to do. I've got a few things on the top and just two baby pics of my kids in the mirror shelf. Not great but until I figure it out it's staying that way

My coffee table isn’t empty, there are usually 3 or 7 Legos on it at any given time, sometimes accented with a GORGEOUS, HIGH GLOSS hot wheels F150 Ford Raptor circa 2015.

Can art nouveau come back please! I want unique furniture. If that were the inspiration, could resin and wood furniture fit with that look, even though it wasn't part of the original style? Can we use pictures of historical clothing as wall art? I love Worth gowns.

not much for books as design elements, I have a whole room for the books, it's the office/library/media centre. on my Platner coffee table I have a San Illdefanso Maria bowl, an Eames Crow, a lidded black bowl by a local ceramicist and a glass teardrop bowl I brought home from Finland. they look FAB with my Red Leather Sofa

I know you spoke of proportionality in small spaces, and although my new space won’t be ready for quite some time, I already it’s going to be small. Here’s my dilemma. I have never liked coffee tables, but I had a large round ottoman on wheels in my former space. It was seating, coffee table, you name it. I can’t part with it because it was something I always wanted - I plan on reupholstering to match the new decor. So, how would I style a button tufted large round fabric covered ottoman to replace a coffee table?

I don't like coffee tables. Theu are just a good place to scrape your leg. They also take up too.much room. For me the perfect solution was found at an Amish market, a small bench. I store a blanket under the top, place drinks on top, and have extra seats when needed. 💐

Hi Lisa! Thanks so much for these videos. When you show images and talk through why they’re successful, I just realized it reminds me of Lynette Jennings’ show that was on the Discovery Channel in the 90’s, which inspired me to become a designer myself. Even now as a professional, it’s super helpful to hear another designer talk about WHY an arrangement or design works and it’s also a great tutorial on how to better describe design concepts to clients in a way that is easy to understand. Keep up the great work!! :-)
