Your Email: Do red cars get more tickets? You'll be surprised 

I saw a study a few years ago that concluded drivers of blue cars were the most aggressive drivers. WRX STi Drivers skewing a whole demographic.

I spent 22 years as a State Police Trooper and I've never thought a cars color had anything to do with whether or not the driver was ticketed. It seems to me that there are far more cars on the road with gray and silver paint varieties, than in the red color palette. I think the particular shade of red should be considered. Are you talking bright red or a more subtle crimson shade? I've always felt that I ticketed many more drivers of gray or silver cars than drivers in varying shades of red. Not every driver of a reddish color car, drives in excess of the posted speed limits. A driver in a silver or even a blue Corvette, Mustang, Camaro, etc., is far more likely than a driver in a red Corolla, Elantra, Civic, etc., to drive well above the posted speed limit. The type of car and its engine performance generally determines the way its driven. Most drivers don't buy a high performance 400hp car to drive 10 mph under the speed limit, just as drivers don't buy fuel efficient "econo-boxes" to drive with the tachometer needle buried in the redline range.

If you compare it by ratio, gray color car actually has more violation per population than red car does. White: 19/25 = 0.76 % citation per 1 % POP Red: 16 /14 = 1.14 Gray: 10 / 6 = 1.67 Silver: 5 / 10 = 0.5 Since 1.67 (gray) > 1.14 (red), gray color cars on average have more tickets per driver than red car does.

Wouldn't you say red is also the safest color? Less likely to be involved in accidents? Be seen, be safe mentality?

Red cars also have a better chance to avoid an accident because they're the ones who get spotted first.

I have a 08' red/orange Hayabusa. Only had 1 ticket so far but the cop was being crooked and kept changing his story about where he clocked me from.

Back in my youth (1960s), I drove a beige VW and my friend drove a yellow Corvette. I always said I could drive 20 mph faster than him and get fewer tickets. Before radar, speed was more subjective. I don't think it makes as much difference now. As you said, the red saying has been around forever. Probably before radar. BTW, I have friends who dabble in used cars. When a car needs to be painted, you can bet it will be painted "Resale Red". Another old saw that has been around forever and is true today.

I would also consider a red car because I think people are less negligent around red cars.

another fun fact ! ... Red, Yellow and White cars are less prone to be hit by another car than Grey, or Black cars.

How about amber lights while typical yellow headlights are on in the night? For me it confuses me since they are around the same color.

I always heard that red cars get stolen more often.

I have wide variety of cars if is a bright color it stands out in a crowd if it just white black etc hard to spot in a crowd so if drive quick make it not so obvious no stickers nothing to stand out

What really gives this mess its strength is as Cooley said red is typically associated with sports cars cuz red is actually a fairly popular color in sports cars that being said there is a lot of people who buy a red car because it is red and a lot of these people would like to own a sports car but can't afford to buy a sports car so they end up buying a red car on many occasions that sometimes somebody has already done some modifications to or they are planning on doing some cheap modifications to themselves so they tend to be more aggressive drivers being less considerate of other Road users and speeding a lot more frequently as well also generally drivers of red cars who aren't buying the car because they want a sports car such as me or Either professional drivers or good drivers and we are paying attention to the speed limit signs unlike the jackass in the BMW who is going 5 to 10 miles an hour under the speed limit who insisted on passing us when we were accelerating which can cause us to become more aggressive and passed them and clearly marked no passing zones because people who tend to Drive Right cars also tend to be more tentative than people who drive black gray or yellow cars and more conscientious of what they are doing is well we also tend to be the people who would rather go to miles an hour over the speed limit even driving past a cop especially in an area where we know that the cops aren't going to care about that 2 miles an hour over versus going 5 to 10 miles an hour under in fact in the area I live in the cops say that 5 miles an hour under and they would not consider that impeding the flow of traffic which can get you a ticket but they would start considering it at 10 miles an hour under for sure and 15 miles an hour under is when they would have to start enforcing that unless conditions persist that mean that driving at the speed limit would not be safe and generally when somebody who is driving aggressively is driving a red car because it is a color that stands out more and elicits more of an emotional response in you as a human being in general when somebody sees a red car driving aggressively versus a white car or a green car or blue car or silver car they tend to remember that incident more easily and more vividly than if it were a silver car or a black car driving the exact same way which in that case just means that it is more of an emotional thing that they are remembering the red car being aggressive but not the black silver or white car because they probably weren't even paying attention for that car that was one of those colors that does not stand out in our minds automatically.

Never buy red car or yellow or orange

Never had problems with a white car ever why cars are the best after you've over red car a white cars happy
